I saw that I could get FF9 pretty cheap on Amazon.  I think I also read that it was one of the harder games to emulate.  Has anyone played FF9 on ePSXe with success?  I'd hate to get the game and find out it doesn't work right.  I might be able to borrow a PS2 from my brother in law, but it's so convenient to be able to play it on the computer.  Thanks!

Yeah, I've played it on ePSXe with no problems. You just have to use the subchannel reading thingy, and it works fine. Darn copy protections.

Awesome.  I'm excited to play it, as it's the one of the only FF's I have little experience with.  I think I played through the first 20 minutes of it,  but I really don't remember a thing.  I'm currently playing through FF8 again.  The last time I tried to play through it was probably 5-7 years ago, and I think I got stuck and lost interest in it.  I don't want to say it's a bad game, but parts of it make it hard to like.  Some of the plot twists in particular are beyond absurd.  I think they just could've done better with foreshadowing early on so that the plot felt more logical.  It's like they saw the success they had with FF7 and decided that they had to make the story as convoluted as possible.

psx emulation on psp is highly dependant on firmware version. 3.71 seems to have the best psx compatibility so far.

I recently played through FF9 again using ePSXe to emulate - you'll have a much easier time if you're in the US as you won't have to patch files or anything. It emulates fine, it didn't crash once, just don't use save states as these heighten the probability of a crash.

At the end of the first disc I decided to play it through on my PSP which I think was a better decision - looks much prettier and I love having all my FF's handheld!

It works fine with popsloader, played right through without a crash. I love my PSP now!

He's not a villain. He's just the boss-after-the-boss. He has nothing to do with the story unlike FFIV's last minute "Zemus is really controlling everything". Necron was just there at the end of all things, but not doing anything about it.
The last minute plot twist I didn't like was when Garland was telling Zidane about the nature of memories right before you get to the crystal world. Much of that was really dumb.
