Cat Mario, and other evil games
« on: 2010-06-13 22:01:56 »
So, how many people here enjoy this kind of thing?

I've occasionally had some fun playing Cat Mario/ Syobon Action (I'm sure most people here will have come across it at some point). It's not actually very hard to beat; in fact, it's much easier to finish than normal Mario on account of the small number of levels and the infinite lives. It's also very satisfying, since you can see how much progress you are making.

I've also dabbled with Unfair Platformer, but I didn't really enjoy it as much (Western sh*t with annoying "Spring Yard Zone" music ;D)

I Wanna Be The Guy is still most certainly the best.

Deadly Danger Dungeon (videogame version) is quite masochistically fun. Not really a flash game, though.

... I can beat the original SMB in 5 minutes, I once held the world-record.  Cat Mario is not easier

How long did it take you to get that good?

Cat Mario can easily de beaten within an hour of first playing it by someone who isn't particularly good at gaming; I doubt the same can be said about SMB

Moneyseize isn't quite the same league, but certainly extremely tough. It's also a very well-done platformer.

Cat Mario is easier to finish in that it's pretty much impossible to fail to finish, but that's like saying Devil May Cry 3 on Dante Must Die is easier to finish than Kirby.

Not really. Cat Mario just isn't that hard. It's true that everything takes a few attempts, but even someone with stupid fingers (like me) can finish it in half an hour. There are checkpoints all over the place and there are usually only three or four difficult bit in between each one. A lot of it can be done with just luck, which certainly can't be said of games like DMC, where there are several minutes of gameplay and a hundred moves that need to be pulled off correctly between each checkpoint.

DMC1 was brutal. Three could be unforgiving, too, until you became acquainted with enemy attack patterns. Thank God we never saw the Shadows again, though.
