ePSXe modding
« on: 2010-07-15 21:17:07 »
This is my first post here. I wasn't quite sure where to post this since the technical forums seem more geared towards errors / bugs / crashes, which isn't what I'm concerned about.

I'm wondering if there are any mods / patches that can be applied to the emulator version of FF7. The reason I ask is I don't own a copy of the PC version, which seems to be the only version you guys dedicate your work to, and I'd really like to get my hands on some of the crazy mods you guys are making.

And, before you ask, I DO own a copy of the game legally. My first disc freezes during a cut scene, so I use the emulator as a backup.

Yes. Yes there are.

Consider my FF7: Rebirth project. Though you don't get model and graphics mods for the PSOne version (for various reasons, it's trickier to do, though by no means impossible), there are still plenty of mechanics, battle and AI mods for the PSX edition.

There is no such thing as an Emulator Version.  An emulator runs a real game.  Epsxe runs a playstation game.  And so your question is, are there any mods for the PS version, and Gemini has worked on those tools.  Look around this forum.

I wish people wouldn't imply that only graphical mods are real mods. >:(

Kernel.bin and scene.bin mods count too, and they completely revitalise the game

Excuse my terminology. ROM / ISO / whatever the heck it should be called. I'm not real tech-lingo savvy when it comes to stuff like this.

Holy mother of god. I just sh*t myself. Any idea how close you are to a release date?

I'll try and track down Gemini's mods in the meantime I guess. Thanks.

EDIT: Scheisse. I see where this is going. You guys probably don't take very kindly to people who use non - disc versions of these games. Like I said though my roms are just backups. My actual game disc is super old. I just tried playing it again for the first time in years and the sucker freezes at the Sephiroth fire cutscene in the flashback.

For that rebirth mod, will it work on a rom file?

I've never had any real interest in graphical mods / model swaps. Never. Mechanics mods make an entire new game; a new model doesn't. Though, that being said, I'd pay good money for a FF7 mod that let me play as Palmer. WITH A TRUCK FOR A LIMIT BREAK, I SAY. TRUCKS!

That's not the case at all; we actually encourage people to use ISOs taken from their own discs when playing the PC version of the game. It's just that words like "ROM" and "emulator version" are reminiscent of the language used by pirates.
