FFF7 Installation help
« on: 2010-07-20 06:13:21 »
Hey, just got my laptop for school today, andbeing a fanboy the first thing next to itunes I want on here is FF7, naturally. Problem: I put the first disc in to run setup, nothing happens. Now before you jump my case, I read through the stickied thread and searched for some help, but I still have a question on the esact installation method. Do I need to download Aali's customdrivers to even start installation? Or any other patch, 1.02, etc.? And by doing any of the things, I just want to make sure there is no hazard to my computer, I just got it and will probably have to wait a while to fix it if it crashes, and will probably get into some trouble if it does. Any help would be great, maybe just a link to a tutorial. I'm running Windows 7 on an HP laptop. No num pad :( so I'll have to see if my GamePad will work.

Thanks for any help

Try installing in while your computer is in Safe Mode. That should help.

Did you put Disk 1 in? or the Install Disk?

You may need to make iso's and run those.

Well, for one, you need the original disc to make an ISO. It won't help with this problem.

Also, you can only install from the install disc. In the original release, this is labeled "Install Disc". In the Platinum release, this is labeled "Disc 1". "Disc 2" is the real Disc 1.

Thank you Eidos, for making things too complicated.

But the first time I did it on my old computer I just had to put in the first disc, the install one was back up.

Do you really have "legal" copy of the game? I have doubts what would show person in worse light. Trying to trick others to help with illegal copy or having no clue how to install original one. First disc as backup? Can't really understand it... did you had a psx version + some emulators backuped as "install disc" or some modified version illegally downloaded from net?

If you have illegal copy only thing I can say in advise is to take a baseball bat and contact person you bought it from. If you are sure you have legal version then double check as you should have install disc + 3 play discs which from what you say you don't have. >.>

By the way, if you lost install disc during your FIRST TIME, then make sure to not DO IT anymore ON your PC. =]

*that last sentence was stronger than me*

They should look like one of these (images from Ebay)

Disk one for Platinum is the install disk

Install disk for original is.. duh.

Which version you got? (Be sure not to quote the images, just say first or second)

No they're legal man, the second one, not platinum edition. You see I borrowed the game to a friend and I;m not sure if he returned the install disc, and if he did, I don't f=remember where I put it. So right now my dilema is trying to install the game from disc one, unless I can find my install disc, then I'll start with that. But like I said, any other time I've tried installiing it, I just need the first disc.

Do you have 3 discs or 4? That would be the easiest way to find out if something is missing.

I own four, Install, Discs 1,2,3. I can't find the install because I "found" copies of my disc for my fried, and gave him the backup install disc because the original discs might not have worked, and he had to use it. But I've never had to.

All of the other disc are useless if you don't have the install disc.

You cannot install Final Fantasy VII onto your computer without the Install Disk, unless you download it in some way, which is against the rules around here. If it's already installed on a computer, then disks 1-3 will work. But you must have the install disk, or an iso of the Install disk to get it on there in the first place.
