Hello, I'm a new member, I came across FFVII the other day on the internet...thought, why not dust off my old cd's and give it a while...I'm tired of all the new games...
To the point; before I even bothered installing the game, I looked into known issues when running it on vista..and a few hours later, I'm running FFVII on Vista-32.

What's bothering the sh*T outta me..I'll say combat interface...but I can only borrow these two pic's to show you what I'm talking about. It's that bar on top of the main combat window.

With BAR

Without BAR

Just to be specific, I installed these things, in this order..
1.02 Patch / aali's custom .7.9b / Avalanche HR / FFmusic 1513 / FMV Rest V2

I'm running the game, in 1920x1080, with aspect ratio..and only recently enable a few tweaks via aali's cfg.
I tried installing kranmer Battle Interface, only to have it screw up the graphics and a few other things...I didn't do any research on what may have been wrong, I just replaced FFVII.exe.

Any help would be appreciated...as well as great mods that would enhance the game even further.

THanks

You could always just press Select...

You're kidding, right?  :-o LMAO, I'll give it a try.
I just thought it may have something to do with the dialog..due to the second train segment(first part of the game)..where my text windows didn't disappear...but instead overlapped, text 'n all.

i don't know if is possible in fullscreen but if you use 1024x768 resolution the black bar don't will appear anymore.(i need test in other resolutions)

1024x768 resolution + fullscreen = no (good results because black bar don't appear)

i don't have much time but after i will test other resolutions both desktop and fullscreen to see if black bar will appear or no. :-)

Thanks, that did the trick..

Now, are there any other mods I should check out, to add to the experience? I played this game back when it came out, however, at the time, I had just bought a new computer...I started playing Diablo & Unreal instead...I'm not sure, I'm pretty sure I never made it to the second FFVII Play Disc...
If I could get this game looking good....consider it a new playing experience...

I'm not really concerned about the black bar as much as the useless bar that was removed by pressing select. What is kind of annoying, but I'm adapting, is my game pad and the sensitivity...I find myself accidentally flying through dialog sometimes, or issuing commands in combat..it's almost as if certain times in the game, the games looking to see if a button is pressed..not just pressed once.
I'm going to have to experiment at these parts, and use the keyboard...

Alright, next...
I've noticed, or maybe it's just me...but menu "memory" doesn't really fully function...as in, it keeps track (during combat) or which menu selection your previously made, but not that target...that being said, I don't have the Yellow Triangle above the current characters head  ***edit, okay, apparently the triangle comes 'n goes, it's there though***...
Also, which mod add's the Target above the enemy...similar to this picture below...I'm just trying to simplify combat.

in respone to your last question about the target indicators, it is just a button you hit on the controller IIRC, but dont remember which button it is exactly

One of the shoulder buttons - R2?

Anyway, if you want rid of it, you need to edit one of the basic video textures, the one with the slot icons, hand, target labels and equipment symbols. Can't remember which one it is.

Yep, again, the controller was the answer. Maybe it's just me...I coulda swore, the gui was like other JRPG's...where, it listed the current target, while showing the "hand" on screen...maybe it's just me, but coulda swore that's how I used to play...select target, via gui...confirm with the "hand". I guess I'm just being picky.

Can Do...I actually went through, and installed a few mods...only to make the game glitchy again...Time to start with a fresh install....I have no idea which part of Avalanche's mod it was, but text is pixelated, with white around it.
New question..I've seen a ton of backgrounds/scenery, that have a really...cleaned up look..High Def I guess you could say...anyone know which mod that is...and if so..if there's multiple options..

I'm looking for other examples...
***edit***
Alright, here's a video on you tube...that seems to be a complete overhaul..
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbexquxkt6Y

I'm not necessarily looking for the models...as much as I am for the background. Now that youtube link lists the mods used...but not which is which. What would you guys recommend?
