Well... try swapping the CD with the one labelled 2 ::done that already?::

I've heard somewhere that Square made the numbering for the FF8 CDs like this : (Disk 1) Installation Disk. (Disk 2) Game Disk 1... and so on...

Nothing much but I hope it helps. ::BTW... running FF8 on Win ME shouldn't be a problem::

There's your problem.

It's generally considered that WinME is the worst OS Microsoft has ever made. It's like they took the bugs from Win2k & WinXP & made ME with them.

That problem sounds like a doozy. I think I've heard of this before, and I think they releases a patch. I can't really remember. Anyone else wanna take this?

It can be a problem with scratches on cd too. Try to borrow cd's from somebody else (if somebody else has them), and try it with them.

1 - Make sure you can see the files on the disc from Windows Exporer.  You might try copying them to your hard drive, just to see if you get any errors.

2 - If you have more than one CD drive, try putting the CD in both of them, not just the one you installed it from or the main one.  I've had a problem with that once.

I had that problem once.....but it was because of a bad install. The install went to something like 95% and stopped....push enter a few dozen times and it droped to Desktop. Ran the game....oh....wait a sec. It didn't give me a wrong disk error, it just crashed. So I guess that's not the problem.

But reinstall anyway.

It sounds like a bad disk to me, though.

Is the Cdrom winding up? and making funny noises, clicks and stuff. That usually means that it can't read the disk.

You say you have a CDRW? well uninstall and reinstall with the CDRW. The game only runs off the CDrom (really the Drive letter) that you installed from. Some CDroms read bad disks better than others.

The mislabeling thing was with FF7 Platium.

FF8 doesn't look good unless your using the old 6.50 drivers, and the patch. Think you get grid lines and funny colors with anything else. But you say your inexperienced? I don't know....downgrading Detonator Drivers isn't, easy. Never used ME, so it may even be impossible, but I doubt it.

Guess you can try the patch, it's just a new FF8 executable file, just download the right one. One is non Geforce, the other is Geforce only.

Stuttering in the opening movie?

Seems to me that this shouldn't happen unless your computer and/or CD-ROM drive are kind of slow.  Try using the "Use Low-Res Movies" option in the config program...  does that help?  (I know the movies don't look as good...)

The movie doesn't stutter on my machine.....you need a real high end computer to play the movies with no sound skipping.

If you have a high end CPU, then make sure DMA is checked for the CDrom inside the System Device Manager.

Also, the Det 29.42 drivers, work perfectly with FF7, and FF8. no need for the FF7.exe from the TNT patch for FF7 (you just need the FF7config from the TNT patch), and no Black boxes in FF8.

I've got the 28.32s on a geforce 3 ti500. The cpu is a 1.4 Atholon xp (1600+) and the soundcard, which I think is the problem is a audigy platnium external. I found out that if I set sound acceleration to basic, it works perfectly but then there's no eax! oh and I've enabled dma on all my drives+cd
