How Long does it Take You?
« on: 2011-08-08 06:07:07 »
Alright, i want to know, how long does it usually take for you guys to get through a game of Final Fantasy (#), on average. (Any Number, but specifically 6, 7, and 8.)

I don't quite remember my times, as I haven't played in a long time.

Depends on how thorough I want to be. Here's my best estimates:

FF#   get-to-ending    do-everything
6        13                    30
7        35                    65
8        18                    50
9        22                    60+
12      ??                     160*

* - at this point I gave up trying to do "everything" and just beat the game.

I have I and II for PSP but still haven't gotten to the ending of either. I'm ready to go to the final dungeon of both, but I want to level up Maria so Ultima 16 will do 9999 damage against the Emperor and I want to get through the bonus dungeons of FFI.

400 hours?! What is your 'perfect game' like? Are you trying to put all characters stats to maximum or something? (I could never understand that way of playing...  :-()

FF6 : haven't played for some time. Last time was a 'World of Ruins - mandatory characters only(Celes, Edgar, Setzer, that's all!)' + 'no/minimum XP or magic points grinding' + 'only 4 magic users (Terra, Celes, Strago, and Relm)' game out of curiosity, and the game counter said 38:50 just before the final battle, ending level 56, 49, and 49 mostly because I had to walk over Kefka's lair twice. (no way Setzer could have defeated a Statue by himself - especially since he got unlucky enough to run into Goddess.)

Max kills for each character, max items (including Pocketstation-only items) and max gil took the longest.

Wow... definitly not my way of playing. Pocketstation items... The minute I got my first load of chocobo items I taged the ChocoboWorld as game-breaking and forbid myself to run it ever again. Max gil in a game in which money is worthless and absolutly useless?  :-o

Well, to each one his playing style.

You don't get the gil to use it, just to say you have it, which is the only true purpose of any perfect game.

The Modern FF games take me about 50-80 hours to finish.

I managed a 100% FF7 save in 86 hours.

I have one save in FF7 which is over 140 hours (PAL)  which equates to around 168 hours real time (since PAL game had wrong time).  I can see this time with Black Chocobo.  The game does save past 99 hours, and the Menu Overhaul displays it.

But that was going over the top doing everything and getting max stats.  I don't do that anymore...  programming and the nature of grinding kinda ruined that for me..  A game should be fun and taxing without the need to waste your life doing rinse repeat.

To finish FF7 these days takes me less than 25 hours.  Probably less than 20 actually.  Much too easy a game as it was released.  When I first played FF7 it was my first ever RPG and it took me around 40 hours.

KartSeven is at 1000+ hours of FF7 playing on ONE savegame to do a more-than-perfect-party, and he isn't even done yet. He has done 400+ hours in the LLNMNI and all in all he's getting close to about 3000 hours of playing. Me? Well, I'm at about 500 hours of FF8 playing in all. The most it took me was about 70 hours, and the least about 20 hours.

Nice. I just started to play ff6 again on the emulator. I just passed the Phantom Train and I'm at 55 hours, good ole Lete River is great for leveling. ;) I remember playing ff9 a few years ago, when you get over 99 hours, the time starts over again and its font is in red.

Only FF game I actually beat was FF7. I got two thirds of the way through in about two weeks, and then cheated because I got lazy. This was about 10 or 11 years ago.

Cant remember for VI

VII took me I think 50+ the first time then about 25 to 30  for any playthrough since then.

VIII was about 40 hours and that's the only time I've ever finished it.

IX was about70+ hours because I actually wanted to do the extra stuff and like VIII, I've only finished it once.

Never finished X, couldn't be bothered, was not enjoying the game.

Never owned X-2

XII, got to the Judges fight on the Airship and threw in the towel, was too under-levelled for it and didn't want to start again and grind for hours.

XIII got the fight in the forest against the two tree things and threw in the towel because it's a bad game.

my mostly perfect been working on perfect stats via morphing things game thats has about 160 hours. 8 of each master materia and one copy of each materia mastered. if you'd like you can view the save because its an included "sample" that comes with Black chocobo its the *-S15 save (psx format)

it took me about 20 hours to beat ff7 the first time. and i only remember this because i was susprised that i finished it so quickly.

Same.

When i start a game i have this thing that i *MUST* do everything right.
As in, in FF7, not miss a chest, not miss a mob, not miss a steal for a certain item (even if i can get that item later), etc. I have to do it 100%.

That's the downside of being somewhat perfectionist. The pressure is so high i sometimes drop the game in the middle of such runs (if games are big). I have the perception of this "problem" but i can't play any other way. Also, if i miss something and i can't go back to get it, i eventually drop the game too. Then when i get back to them i usually start again so i don't miss a thing.

I'm weird.

I'm exactly the same way. I was doing a run of Final Fantasy VII and I had gotten 99 Iron Bangles, which the only way to get them is to farm money in the Train Graveyard (before you meet Tifa) and buy 99 (which takes about 6+ hours). And then I got to the world map and down to the Midgar serpent thing. I was trying to learn it's Enemy Skill. I learned the skill, ran from the battle and saved it, which ruined my save data. I couldn't continue. Nor could I start another run.
