Psychological side of the characters
« on: 2003-06-04 19:06:53 »
I am planning on writing a psychological report on the characters of Final Fantasy VII. (it's my job, writing psychological reports on people, lol)
I would ask of you guys; who would be interested in giving me some stuff to think about? An opinion or insight on a particulair character you think many others might have missed?
Is there any interest among you about this anyway? Please let me know'. I'd really like to do this, but not if nobody cares ;-)

Psychologically analyzing the characters would be pretty easy as they would follow a lot of the stereotypes presented in psychology... well.. with the exception of Freud.. There are so many vast points you could make your basis for.. like how Cloud was perceived in the beginning and how he changed due to environment and figuring out who he was.. or How due to environment he became what you saw in the beginning of the game.. How Vincent slept in a coffin.. geez was it because of guilt? its been so long since i played the game.. I think you would have to dig around for some more points to throw in there.. i am really having a hard time recalling information from the game.. its probably been a few years since i played it.. being as how i am unemployed now i just picked up origins and started FF1.. but perhaps i should give 7 another spin..

I indeed want to dig deeper into the characters, deeper than the game itself did... As far as stereotypes go, they are all built up from one layer of consciousness, while a living person has far more...

Tifa: keeps things bottled inside; difficulty in expressing herself to others.
Cid:  vents his anger to the people he loves (it's better to be hated than to be disappointment.)
Barret: Hard Shell, but soft once the shell is broken.
Red 13: ashamed, lonely, doesn't care.
Aeris (Aerith): self-sacrifical (always puts herself in danger for the good of others...and I don't mean because of the summons of Holy.)
Cloud: unassured, loner, doesn't want to be an outsider/loner, but is.
Vincent: Depressed.
Yuffie: In constant need of attention. juvenile.

Cath-Sith....(who cares; comic relief): Conspirator; A good son, working for a very, bad company....forgot the guy's name, controlling this robot.

...not much of a paper.  :o

The fact that you are analyzing characters from a game would make your task way more daunting than a real life person. You would also have to read into things way more.. since all you have to go on is dialog.. Depending on how long this paper has to be it could end up to be very challenging.. I am not a psychology major.. never even taken a class.. I think what this would mostly be would be formulated through your own opinion on the characters.. Really.. i think thats mostly what psychology is anyway.. someones opinion on behavioral patterns of others, mixed with their thoughts behind those actions, and then chuck in the emotions they feel.. If you want a long paper you will probably find yourself B.S.ing a lot.. ... just a thought.
