Final Fantasy 8 PC speed/framerate problems
« on: 2001-07-15 02:20:00 »
Hi

I have FF8 for PC and use the Geforce Patch 1.2 'cause I have a Geforce 2 MX, P3 900, 256 mb ram. I use the detonator 6.5 driver official, and I have some Framerate problems even on this powerfull system. When being on the world map the framerate isn't that good and when flying with the ragnarok it's much bader. Also when calling Eden up in the battle the framerate drops down to 10 or so. That's anoying because when you try to boost Eden it's really slow and you'l tip wrong very soon.

Does anyone knows this problem and knows what to do?

Thanks

Yes, I have that problem too. It's a known problem, called "FF8 PC was programmed really crap."

There may be workarounds, but there's no avoiding the basic fact...

You might wanna try using an emulator and the PSX disks.. you dont have to keep it that way.. but it would be kinda interesting to see if you run into the same problem.. also .. depending on how much crap you have thrown on your computer it just breaks and sucks.. my second hard drive just went out.. i have no idea why .. i rebooted and it came back.. but now it seems to be gone for good.. What OS are you running?

Just to take a guess.. is it Windows ME.. because if it is .. that OS sucks! so does 98 SE i guess cuz thats what i am running and its not much help either. but its probably better than ME.. XP will b out soon i hear its gonna be great.. you should just get XP  :) LoL

XP is great aprart from a few bugs but it might just be the build I have at the moment. sometimes the startmenu will freeze after you close a program and it will do it for about a minute before it works again but it hardly ever totaly crashes and it is very fast. But it wont work with system shock 2 :(
