Basically... FFX.
« on: 2002-12-09 09:28:42 »
This forum hasn't seen many topics on FFX. Mostly coz not many people have played it, and that's due to many people not owning a Playstation2. So what did everybody think of it? The new proper turn based battle system? Little extras like the battle arena? Dark Aeons?
When Final Fantasy VII was first getting european previews in Official Playstation Magazine, I read an interview with the guy in charge (I seriously dunno his name. Jeez it appears in the credits.). He was asked a question on why the game did not include voice actors. His reply went something like:

Quote
"...voice actors would have been very time consuming and almost certainly increased the number of discs the game would be released on. Most imprtantly, if I were to include voice actors, the music would be drowned out..."

So, in FFX, was the music drowned out? I was expecting more conversation during battles. The occasional "yeah!" leaps from Tidus' mouth but that's it. Battles were left for a very good reason: Cuz the music in Some battles was excellent. "Crisis" (also called "Peril") was the best battle tune I've heard in a FF game. Closely followed by "Challenge" which was included in the Yunaleska battle.

So what does everyone think?

I think/thought that the music in FFX is among, if not, THE best FF music I've heard yet. Yes, there are a few songs from FF7 and FF6 that totally rock, but as a whole, I think FFX's music is superior.

Drowned out: Not at all. You can still clearly hear the music, despite the voice acting.

All in all, I thought what I played of it was really cool!

Now thatr I own a PS2, I need to break out my copy and start playig it again...

The sound/music is also more high-quality than the PS FF's music, right? I mean, the PS2 cd's are dvd-roms, so why not cram 7GB+ of high-quality audio along with high-quality cinematics?

And is Tidus really a Squalliroth clone?

Yes, in Audio and graphical quiality this game kicks all the PSX FF's squarely in the nuts. As to the quality of the compisition.... not so sure. Maybe FF7 might beat it (if it got a completely revamped orchestral version). The Plot kicks ass completely.

Hmm...you talked smack about the plot of FF9 saying it was stupid. I dunno if I'll like FFX, considering FF9's plot was:

Of course, it probably doesn't completely mean I'll not like the game. Just because you didn't like FF9 doesn't mean that much towards FFX's quality. My final judgement will come when (or if) I play FFX. Considering they're making a sequel, the original can't be too good in the first place. They obviously left out the final shininess of "chicks with guns" action.

FFX is a pretty big improvement over the near mindlessness of FF9.. but it's still not on par with FF7 or FF8.. both were pretty good. FF10 is there first PS2 release, I think you can see the affect of adding in voice acting into the game however, notice how SHORT FF10 is.  I was just finishing up the calm lands and next thing I know I'm near the end of the game! All things considered, they could have had a LOT more things to do and weird twists and adventures. Right now I'm just looking for things to do before I go and obliterate sin.
1: Cactuar village.. I suppose one could do this when lost in the desert but it was such a pain then..  so now I'm doing it.  GEESH you have to have PERFECT timing to get the cactuars.
2: Ultimate weapons I don't know if these actually DO anything (snicker) but I thought it was kind of cool to get them.
3: Getting all the Aeons.  Yep I have Anima and that weird one that charges you money for combat. (Yojimbo?)  Once I defeat ALL possible aeons I can go and get whatever lies in that temple near the calm lands.
4: I think one has to do a few races and a few other things with Chocobo's to get some objects needed for the ultimate weapons.
5: Defeat the super hybrid monsters. These guys are hard to beat.. but I donno seems like fun.  I have to collect some more monsters outside the calm lands to complete this and then fight them all.  Need more star curtains anyways for making cool weapons and armor.

The game isnt short. Its HELLA longer than FFIX or FFVIII is. And theres shitloads of sidequests in the game to keep you going with the game. I know someone whos put 200 hours into the game, and hes not even playing the Int/Euro version ha.

My 2 cents of FFX: Its near FFVII, but lacking slightly in story compared to FFVII. Music rocked, battle system was unreal, graphics were pretty good.
Bad points? DIFFICULTY! Come on Square, you suck! Add a hard mode for the vets damn you! The english voice acting was also mediocre. I wish they'd left an option for Jap voices...

I have 60 hours in my FF10 game.. I've completed most side quests..

I have 240 hours into FF8  .. I'm still on disc 3.. I guess it's all relative? :)

I have a lot of fun in FF8.. FF10 is fun but the music gets monotonous at times.. also it still plays when you pause (sigh).

However I still like FF10 a lot better than FF9.. I think the one place I like best in FF9 is Clerya.. that's it.. it's just a cool place. :)

The side quests in FF10 are ok .. but just seem busy work.  I still need to finish cactuar village.

The Internation version had additional stuff in it like Reiku's story and Yuna's story added in.  Perhaps they'll release FF7 and FF8 respins for for the Ps2 sometime.. I'll buy those for shear fun to play.

FF8 was pretty mind boggling when it came out, especially when they combined 3d characters and movies so smoothly.

As I said.. I wouldn't want to trade my FF10 away.. but I can see where some minor improvements would have made it more fun for me.

FF10 is hard in certain anoying spots.. that's what drives me nuts :)

Longest time I ever took to beat a final fantasy was when I was playing FF4. I was about 8 years old at the time. It took me 68 hours to beat the game, considering that 26 of those hours went into mindless leveling. I didn't know how to board the

, like an idiot, and leveled up for a long time. FF4 didn't have many side-quests, either. The most I can remember right now are about 3..maybe more.

It took me about 26 hours to complete FF9, but I didn't do any of the sidequests. I kind of rushed through that game, and I mostly regret it. I still enjoyed it, though. Much more than FF4. If you want my true opinion about FF9, read the really long post by me here

Yeah, FF7 does let you roam on your own a little. Just like the last half of FF5. The last quarter of FF6 is pretty much all optional. I don't think FF7 was THAT vast, considering you did have to go on one path through the entire course of disc 1. There were some parts in FF7 where you could branch off and do other things, but your lack of transportation really limited you to going on the main path. FF8 probably had the least freedom, and which was almost a minor theme of the game. The way the SeeDs had to follow orders kind of reflected on the game's forced-upon path.
