Sound problem with SB Live!

Hi,
After, oh dunno, 5 years ? I've finally decided to install and play this game  

But it appears that setting up this game is much more complicated than other games I've been playing for a while  

My main problem right now is sound. I've browsed this forum a bit, and it seems that I am not the only who's had problem with sound.
I've runned the FFconfig, and it works fine for all left, center, and right channel.
My audio.dat is 68.4MB fresh from a full install (along with a 54k audio.fmt file).

Here is the odd part though: inside the game, under config/sound, it says "not supported" next to the music icon even though I can hear the midi playing.
The FX section however got a volume control slider even though it doesn't change a thing.

I might dig out my SB64 if no solution can be found, but its a bit of a pain having to do that just for one game   Even if its a FF game.

I am running a P2 400 with 256MB RAM, GeForce2MX, SBLive! value on Windows98SE.

Well, I gave in and dug up my good ol SB64.. And guess what. It worked  

Next question... How do I set it up to work with Sound Font ? At the moment, when I select that option on the FF7Config, it gives me a "error opening device" message.
I might stick with the Yamaha Driver + Midi in the meantime, but it'll be nice if I could get the SoundFont to work.

You could try using fice's tools, to make the playstation psf music to work with it.

I don't think you can do soundfonts with the SB64.

SoundFont Manager for AWE32/64

Final Fantasy VII has incorporated SoundFont technology to enhance
the quality of MIDI music playback.  If you are using a Creative
Labs AWE32/64 soundcard, you must have the SoundFont Manager installed
in order to take advantage of these enhanced MIDI files.

So I am kinda assuming it would, although it won't be 80MB Sound Fonts (far from it).

I guess u can try installing FF7's Soundfont Manager.

It's in the install disk under SFman.

After you install that, there should be a new option on the pull down menu for FF7config.


But, I don't know why your SBlive card didn't work. It should have worked fine, especially with Win98SE.


The settings with Win98 should have been
MIDI Driver:
A:SB Live! MIDI Synth

MIDI Data:
Soundfont MIDI (Creative AWE32/AWE64)

The volume control for MIDI's even becomes active with this setting configuration....and the Soundfont Automaticaly load, as long as your using Win98SE. The only problem might be if your using a huge Sfont without reserving memory for it. There is a slide bar in the Soundfont Manager (in the last tab) that reserves memory, for the Sfonts.... It default 8 or something....and resets everytime you boot up. There is a way to set the default setting higher, but you have to go into the registery. And I don't remember exactly where it's at.
