Gears Errata

Because Gears is getting much bigger that I origianlly thought it would (I thought ~200 pages, but I'm pushing 175 and I'm not even halfway done) I' may need some non-programming types to help with errors in  it.

I need to start some kind of versioning system, or at least a feedback system for the monster.

Here's the deal. I write on gears when I can. My privite "gears.sdw" is my personal alpha copy.

WHen I export to PDF, that's my public beta. I would like for you guys to comment on it. Then it's in "beta" form I consider that part of the document "done" for now. It going to be up to you guys to bother me for errors/incompleteness/vaugeness. If not, I'm going to just keep on writing.

It has come to my attention that the save map might be corrupted as I didn't make clear that I stripped the header. As it's in "menu" that I consider "done for now" can someone just verify where the corruption is? You have you any information on a better way do display the save map. How about the header fomats for both the PSX and PC versions? How do you calculate checksomes?

There are things I should be botherd with. Of not, I'm gonna just stomp all over the "Field" section wiriting wholly inaccurate things like how you can date Seiferoth if you put him in the back row, use the "cover", comment on his hair, and resserect Aerith.

^_^

At the very start of section with Menu Module, you've written Menu_us.lgp entry twice in the green box ;).

Also two things..

1. You use alot of hex strings in the format $BD0C and then sometimes you use them in 0xBD0C. It may be kinda confusing to some people about that $ thing and yeah its kinda weird that you jump from the two.

2. Whats with all that writing in some other language... Yeah the same reason you keep jumping between the two. Please make it available to english readers!!

Other than that...very good and interesting document. I'll surely be a fan for a long time.

EDIT: Oh yeah i just remembered. You use "15 bit" to talk about the PC port's graphic support..i thought all resolutions go in the powers of 2...
2,4,8,16,32..ect..

1) I don't change other people's documents unless I have thier permission, so if they use $ to donate hex. I'll put it in. However, I may change that for consistency's sake.

2) http://www.lipsum.com

3) The FF7 uses 15 bit graphics and a mask bit. (15+1=16) The mask bit adds no color information to the RGB triplet, but is used to calculate transperency effects.

Oh alright then. In the final version are you gonna get rid of that latin crap.. because if not i think its bloody stupid for the readers to have to learn a new language to read the document... especially us programmers...

O_o

Wow! I think you totaly missed the point... I'll explain...

Lorem ipsum is just filler text. It's mathmaicly the same as normal english. (Meaning it apperars like english witout actually saying anything) You see, when I started work on the porject, I made an outline first. Then I tested out my formatting. I do this by laying down a paragraph or two of Lorem ipsom so I can see how it's suppsed to look. Then I make headers and subheaders based on my outline, which slowly turneds into a table of contents.

It's how you write a technical manual.

I'm still learning how to write these things. I can tell you it's a *HUGE* improvement over my PSX doc, but I'm not very good yet. The latin is *SUPPOSED* to go away when you are done with it.

It is also there for another reasons. Sometimes filler pages accidently get published and it's better to have unintelligable filler as oppsed to someone else's copyrighted work , or even worse, vulger or stupid writing that one can confuse to be actually part of the book.

It looks more "natural" than just cut & paste filler, for example. What looks more natural, this?

You can see why Lorm Ipsum is used now, and what I mean by it's "Mathmaticlly the same as normal English"

Oooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

Yeah i get that then...

Hmm thats a good idea.. when im doing my filling i normally just write some story that doesnt make sense or ramble on about nothing... so if it was for public viewing i guess that lorem ipsum is better...

lorim ispum is "mathmatically" identical to legible language becasue it actually WAS legible speech.  I beleive it was a spech julius ceaser gave, though i'm a bit shaky on the historical details.

uhm, yeah, just... watned to say that...
