Okay this is a problem that isn't addressed here
« on: 2004-09-20 00:59:05 »
okay first of all, i own FF7 the legal version. i kept hearing about the Ultima Version and how it was better than original version. So i installed that first. Then when i found out i couldn't use trainers with it, i decided to uninstall it, and install my original game disks. Here's the problem: The game acts as if it's already patched! and when i want to use trainers, they still don't work! now these are trainers that i've used with this game in the past so they are reliable IMO. And i remember before that the game always crashed at the beggining. my question is how do i make it so my game will crash like normal? i know it's a wierd question but that way i know it's version 1.0 and i can then work on from there. I hope i didn't wierd anyone out :D oh yea by the way, I have windows XP. Pentium 4 proccessor 2.4 ghz, 512 ram, Geforce FX 5200 128 mb.  hope that helps.

Double-check your registry and make sure any reference to ff7 still isn't there.  Don't install any patches or anything.  Trainers were made to only work with the retail 1.0.

Actually which version did you buy?  If it's the paltinum version, it may already come with 1.02...

Okay, I reformatted(sp?) my harddrive and reinstalled FF7. i d/l the trainer..... still doesn't work. i doubt that my game is version 1.02, for the reason that some of the mods out there(i.e Seph patch and Hi- res cloud) require 1.0 wor them to work(well at least the ones i have  say that.) So i'm thinking that maybe the one at fault here is winXP. So if anyone else is having the same problem with not getting any trainers to work, it's simmple: you can't. Win Xp must have something that in a way conflicts with FF7 memory dealy. The test i did to prove this was that i installed FF7 onto my windows 98 pc. I also put the same trainers, and Boom! I was cheating like no tomarrow. So in conclusion, FF7 on WinXP=BAD FOR TRAINERS. FF7 on Win95/98=GOOD FOR TRAINERS. of course most of us now use XP, so untill i find a trainer out there that works on Xp, this is my conclusion. If anyone and i mean anyone, knows of a trainer that works on XP, post it here pleeze!

I beleive the Nvidia patch was for FF8 wasnt it?

And also, Have you tried running FF7 in compatibility mode at all?  And are you running SP2?  Ive heard that its messing some games up, and stopping programs from working...

ah crap..... I have SP2. and yea I can tell it's screwing games up. Generals doesn't work as well as it used to. But i don't know if i should uninstall it or not. As for the Nvidia patch thing, I don't know.. the site i found it said, FF7 trainers. so..... plus the link to the site was from this site. (I did some more searching and found it) If i do some compatability thing, most of the trainers won't recognize it..... But yea it could be Service Pack2 like you said. Just don't know if I'm gonna get viruses or whatever if i unisnatll it.....

I dont think you will get any virus vanerabilities if you uninstall it...

I have it installed on my machine, And now I cant play Max Payne 2 ;_;...
Im on chapter one part 7 where you find the jury guys dead in the hotel place with the murderers dressed as cleaners, and I saved it before I instlled SP2, now if i try to get out the room im in, through the DOOR it crashes, Generally throwing up a blank blue screen, and everything shuts down on the pc...fans...HD...OR, it will hang...  I Checked the MS webasite and FF7 isnt listed as a problem app, probably because so few copies (legal that is) exist in the world now....and its a very old game...

Microshaft have said they are trying to bugfix the bugfixes....so HOPEFULLY gamers will be able to install SP2 with the knowledge it wont royally **** them.

As for the link for the Nvidia patch if it was from this site, there a 99% chance its real.

Its the patch that adds "nvidia compatability mode" or something isnt it?

If it is, then yes, that IS the 1.2 patch.

You actually tried it?  I've had almost zero trouble.
FF7/8 are working fine in SP2 for me, although I had to reinstall the upsidedown movie patch after installing Windows Media Player 10 for FF7 to work.
