Getting a Gold Chocobo Before you should
« on: 2004-12-05 05:20:15 »
In another article someone was asking, "why, when
I give myself a gold chocobo with Jenova, can I not
ride it". Cause he was on the first disc and they wouldnt
ask him about the stables till later and all.

But my question is, is there anyway of getting around this?
Could we figure out a way to add a gold chocobo directly
to the world map. I just think it would be cool to go places
you arent supposed to be yet, and see just what all takes place.

I wonder because, if you leave a chocobo on the world map
when you save it, it saves the location of the chocobo. I havent
done as much looking as I should, but I can't find where this part
of the data is saved.  But it has got to be somewhere, and it has
got to be changeable, at least, I hope so, hehe

someone managed to plop ruby weapon near Junon, so, I don't sxee why not

But it'd involve hex editing, so, mweh.

However, i WOULD like to see if the northern cave has the shield around it before disk 2... hmm...

First, I'd say this topic really belongs in Game Tweaking (it's a big stretch to call this feedback on a program.)

I can't remember for sure, but I think I did it a long time ago. IIRC, I used the Cid save editor--there's an option to enable the Highwind in Disc 1. At least, I hope there is. Otherwise my memory's really going. Anyway, in Disc 2 you can definately get to the Northern Crater before the shield comes up. For flyovers, use the Highwind or breed a Gold Chocobo (you can do that as soon as the Gold Saucer reopens.) The Shield's definately not there, but I couldn't get in.

possible problems

there was a trick similar to this, when you could actually get a flying chocobo in ff9 _too early_ in game - you were supposed to obtain it after getting an airship (as far as i know) somewhere on 3rd disc (or maybe even later) - and even if you got it too early, it caused major script problems when you would go to the wrong places ahead of time (game script-wise).

well in ff9 on a psx there was propably only part of a script on each cd i guess, so that could cause these problems. i don't know if that would affect ff7 on pc.

however, my point is that the same thing could happen in ff7 - you might go into some place too early, it might flip some trigger in the script and you wouldn't be able to do everything that you were supposed to do before the trigger (which could be important somehow, like the 'change disk' event). or the game might just 'blow up' :d
