check your directx, diag it to make sure if it running fine, go to Start, then click Run, then type "DxDiag" without the quote, then when you are Dxdiag, go to Display tab then click Test DirectDraw and Test Direct3D

if it said it got problem then tell us what the problem of Dxdiag said

It passed the 8-bit thing.
Do you have the NVIDIA box checked in FF7Config?
If you do, uncheck it and try again.

Does it work in Software Rendering mode?

It's because the 8 bit pallet says pass, that it won't work.

The FF7.exe from the TNTpatch only works if it says Fail. You either have to disable the 8bit pallet from the driver. And install the TNTpatch just as explained in the Readme file. (which was done with the use of Rivatuner....I don't know if Rivatuner works with these newer drivers that nvidia spits out every other day.).

....or, you had to use the FF7config.exe from the patch....with the old FF7.exe from the game. Select Hardware mode and then Don't check any of the Nvidia check box options. And it would work in Hardware mode....with possible heavy grid lines. Anti-alaising would sometimes fix the grid lines. There is even a user workaround in that Great FF7 FAQ thread that explains such a method.

You see....
FF7.exe from the TNT patch was designed to run with video cards drivers that have the 8bit pallet "disabled". It won't work when it's enabled.  The FF7.exe from the game is designed to only work with video drivers that have the 8bit pallet "enabled". (And the 8bit that is enabled on today's cards.....doesn't seem to be 100% correct with older games, but that's besides the point.)

The FF7config.exe from the TNT patch does not check your video card with a known list.... So it "doesn't" disable the Hardware options if it can't find a match. But the FF7config.exe from the game "does" check it with a known list (badly outdated list) and if it doesn't match...it doesn't show that hardware option.

So...that's why your TNTpatch won't work with Hardware mode.
Software mode.....doesn't matter. (At least that I can remember....I may be wrong on that Software statement....I'm too lazy to check)

In my experience (with a GeForce4 Ti), FF7.exe works fine with cards that pass 8-bit Palleted Textures as long as you do not check the nVidia box.  Otherwise, it'll go to a black screeen for a second and then crash.
