(two patches = official 1.02 and chocobo fix)

I will be getting FF7 soon (NOT "that" illegal version, the actual game). And I was just wondering...

1) Will the v1.02 patch and the chocobo patch cause Gamehack not to run with FF7?
2) I have an NVidia GeForce 2 MX 400 (the latest drivers installed) and Windows XP Home SP2 - is it at all possible to run an unaltered FF7 w/o any disasterous effects? (just hoping there's a small chance)

I'm also hoping that Jenova and FF7Che.exe work with this version of the game, since they obviously didn't with "that" illegal version. The many trainers out there hopefully should work this time too. 8)

In typing this out, I am assuming someone, or some people, know what Gamehack is and can do. :D

As for the v1.02 patch - you will need the variable offsets for v1.02 instead of v1.00 to hack it.
As for the chocobo patch you don't need to worry, the only thing it does is NOPing out a few commands that cause the crash.

Questions about FF7, Gamehack, and the two patches

Thanks for the info.

I checked the Gamehack site and the readme files of both the FF7 tables. They mention nothing about any 1.02 patch. Also the Gamehack site itself lists the tables as...

1) Final Fantasy VII
2) Final Fantasy VII Vers. 1.07

Dunno if that would mean anything. Could just be the version of the tables. :-? I'm just hoping they work with FF7.

Unless...there is something else that can do to FF7 what Gamehack can? :o

AS per "2", if you get wierd gridline-ness, try the 52.xx drivers.  For some reason, i was able to get AA working in 2x mode without using rivatuner when i had that card. *shrugs*

I've played up until the very first Save Point in the game. I have so far not noticed any negative effect on the graphics. Patch v1.02 has not been applied just yet, because I was testing Gamehack codes, and they work - YAY!!

On that subject though, does anyone know the values of the different elements and status effects? I've found the codes that control elemental and status defence, but I don't know what to do with them. :(

I have found the value for a character to absorb all elements. And I am closing in on full status defence (against negative effects). So far I've got the value to guard against everything except Slow and Stop.

Keep in mind this is for a completely unaltered FF7.exe!

I will post more info when I have it. The trouble is getting a value that doesn't defend against a positive effect (like Haste and Regen). Manipulate isn't a concern as no enemy I know of uses it. Peerless will be obselete because of max stats codes. 8)

EDIT:
Value for "Absorb All Elements": -1
(all elements will be absorbed into your HP)
Value for "Full Negative Status Defence": 111181567
(every negative effect will do nothing, every positive effect will still happen)

The latter can also be used on the Status Attack address to inflict all bad effects on every enemy. Also, Manipulate was left out since I believe nothing uses it on the characters.

This is for "version 1" of FF7 (completely unaltered, except maybe by the Chocobo Patch). :D

This took me about an hour to pin down. Starting from the exact value for the Ribbon accessory helped cut the time down.

Correction about the "Absorb All Elements" value. It is "511". "-1" caused restoring items to damage your MP.

It seems Gamehack doesn't work with FF7 when it is Direct3D-Hardware- whatever mode. What's the deal there??

1. Don't double-post.
2. Don't triple-post.
3. You can find the elements and status effects quite deeply explained by searching (these forums, and Terence's tech docs IIRC). For starters, thinking in hexadecimal or binary will probably be quite more illuminating. Also, providing protection/absorbtion of all negative statuses/elements is as easy as fixing six values (one for status protected and one for element absorbtion in each of the three in-memory character data structures used for battles). If you keep looking you'll probably also discover some of the other cool things you can do. ;)

Sorry for the late reply. Just wanted to apologise for my triple posting. Won't happen again Qhimm.
