Ultima editing Program Question
« on: 2005-10-23 06:35:06 »
Hi I was just using Ultima to edit a .p model, adding vertices and such, and when I created a char.lgp file with the .p file replaced with the one I edited, the game crashes. Does anyone know why this happens??
Thanks

Heh, yes.
Ultima is *very* outdated, and there were some values within the .p file Ultima can't edit or generate.
IIRC, however, crashing *should* only happen when editing a textured model. But that depends on which Version of Ultima you are using.

There is another FF7 .p editor out there, however, I do not remember how it's named... I think it was more update as far as the file format is concerned.

As for my buggy little proggy Ultima - I'm sorry :weep:

I think now I see it - you were "adding" Vertices... I think that's what made FF7 crash...

Heh it's a cool program though, when I figured it out and got the thing I wanted working out, I was like "woooohoooooo", but then it crashed when I tried to apply it to the game heh. O well, time to search around some more...was this close....ahah. Anyway, thanks a bunch heheh

Edit: Oh btw, how about polygons? If I adjusted existing vertices and added polygons, do you know if that would work?? Problem is it's hard to figure out which vertices relate to which number based on the XYZ coordinates...  :-?

I think adding polygons will have the same result...
The only thing you should be able to do is change vertice position and polygons, however, you may not add or delete anything...

Ultima is a great program. Specially for debuging purposes. It would have been a pain to track down the bast number of bugs in my Kimera program if it wasn't for Ultima's log-files. I really thank you for your work Alhexx.
Tsukiyomi, you can use Kimera to edit P files... at least to some extent. Well, you can remove poly and vertices and make new polys out of the existing vertices (unfortunately, you can't add vertices yet nor move the existing ones freely). You can also change the colors, resize, move and rotate (well, rotate doesn't work very well actually) and apply some crappy deformation effects. It's quiet simple, but It's also relatively easy to use. You can find the program at the programming section.
I think Alhexx is working on a 3DS to P converter also. You can wait until it's finished :-P.

Heh i c....cool i'll check that out...and get my painkillers ready for the headaches im gonna run into in the process.... :isee:

Thanks guys heheh

Edit: Hey that was a pretty cool program hehe. Although I was wondering, can you merge .p files? ok basically my problem is that I wanna make one of the characters have long hair, so I'm trying to edit the hair right on the .p head file, that way i don't have to add a bone which screws up the animation of the character. I did it on ultima but it didn't work in the game...shoot..but yeah, anyway around that??  :-?
Oh and I don't think Kimera is listed on the compilation of programs thread yet, although it really should be heh.

No, you can't use this program to join P files. I've been thinking on adding that functionalitly for a long while, but I'm lazy :-P. Anyway, you don't need to use any external program to do it. FF7 allows you to do it directly by adding the model to the list of models of a bone in the HRC file. It works perfectly (I've done it lots of times in the NPC Reconstruction Project), although you will have to re-position the model with Kimera. The problem is that you have to do this blindly, using the trial and error method. Use Biturn at the same time to test how it looks like.

dammit so there was an easier way all this time...>.<...

oh wait, but the thing is, that when i open an hrc file, it give the bones and which .rsd files it has on each bone right? but opening the .rsd file, i don't see the .p files it uses. It just says some other stuff with different extensions. so how would u edit the hair on? i think i know what u mean by adding the .rsd file to the bone so no new one is necessary, but its the .rsd filename u would be adding right? Shoot i think i just confused myself a little bit..... :isee: .....

Edit: Ok actually, i think i got the files i need, but how do u reposition the model?? there's rotation, reposition features and such, but is that just for viewing? because it doesn't seem to change the file...ahhhhhhhhh.....

The RSD file points to P files and TEX files. It's just that they used diferent extensions here (don't know why). The first 3 refernces are for the same file (the P file) and the rest are for TEX files.
As for the reposition/rotation/resizing, yes, it changes the vertices position in the file. If you don't see any diference, try with a greater value.

umm...ok for example, the piece is a piece pointing up, so i changed the rotation to make it point down (180 degrees), and then i save it, but when i view it on biturn, it's still pointing up, kind of like it didn't save it or something. Do i just have to apply it to the game to see if it worked?

Edit: OMG...i'm THIS CLOSE...i got the save thing working somehow...although it doesn't save when rotating on a certain axes i think...but anyway, everything shows up right EXCEPT the hair in the mid-part, which is from the back of the neck to the lower back. I added all 3 parts to the head bone, but the middle one just won't show up >.<....I'm still working at it....ahhhh daaammmiiitttt....
