If you can't use the Upside Down Movie Patch, look here!

While there is a fix to running the upside-down movie patch on Windows XP, it doesn't work for everyone. (Me, for instance.) If you have the problem, or just want to latest version of the TrueMotion 2 codec, you can download a manual install here.

Once you have the file, unzip it and open the folder, then hit Ctrl+Alt+Del. In the task manager, close "explorer.exe". (Make sure you close the right one. Look for the one with the most memory usage.) Alt+tab back to the folder that you unzipped the codec. (Don't close the task manager) Right click on the file marked "OEMSETUP.INF", then click "Install". Once the codec is installed, close the folder and switch back to the task manager, then click File> New Task (Run...) and type "explorer", then hit enter. (You close explorer.exe is to force Windows to reload the codec, rather than rebooting.) If a Windows Explorer window opens, make sure that ALL open folders are closed and try again.

You'd figure by the time 2006 rolled around, people would move on to different games... but like many people have said, after watching the FFVII:AC movie you get into a bit of nostalgia and feel like replaying.

Anyway, after reading through the forums here, I figured I'd be in a world of hell trying to get FFVII to run on a Dell Inspiron 700m. But things went smoothly and after adding all the various patches people suggested, everything looked good for me except for that upside down movie problem. Thing is, even after installing the ff7betap1.exe patch that supposedly fixes that problem, I still saw movies playing upside down! I don't know if it's just because of the integrated graphics hardware in this laptop, or what, but I was running out of hope...

I hoped this topic might've solved my problem, except that those links are now dead. To anyone still having this problem, here's my two cents to possibly help save you a couple hours of struggling: try downloading another copy of tm20dec.ax off the net (uploaded for your convenience - this is not the 138kb one you already installed) and replacing the one in your \windows\system32. Worked for me, anyway, even when the TM patch didn't!

skaulana, I didnt think anyone was playing on a 700m. My work just got me one like a week ago and FF7 was the first thing I installed. What patches did you get to work? I installed game and used the 1.02 patch. I installed the direct show filters off the game install and didnt use the upside down patch. I got the reunion patch to work but cant get the high res patch to work. Did you get that one to work? Did you get that laptop keyboard patch? Anyway good to know someone is playing on a 700m also.
