battle gui transparency

i've used the transparent field text box patch and i think it adds a nice effect to the game, i was wondering if a mod would be possible to make the battle gui transparent aswell.

i'm sure its quite possible but i'm just wondering whether the battle graphics are rendered behind it.

I've heard that the engine doesn't render the lower part of the scene. You can enable it, but looks like it's buggy.
