Editing Kills and Escapes
« on: 2007-09-11 03:40:54 »
Just wondering if anyone out there could let me in on how to edit each character's kill total and the overall total of escapes on PC save files.  I'm sure it's a pretty easy process, thanks to anyone who can help out.

I hate to be a pain, but I'm gonna need a little more hand holding than the last guy.  Can someone simplify this for me?

"Offsets are for each slot of save-game considering checksum as 0x0000 offset...

The "number of kills" counter is at 0x24 offset of each character's record (0x0078 for Cloud, 0x00FC for Barret, 0x0180 for Tifa etc.).
Number of battles won is at 0x0BBC and number of escapes are at 0x0BBE."

I'm using XVI32, basically I just want to give all 8 characters max kills (i believe the number is 65535), and have 2222 escapes.

Thanks for the help, again, sorry to be a pain.

Well, I went in and changed the values at 0x0BBE to 08, and the second byte to AE.  However, in game i still only have one escape.  I also changed the kills in each character's data to FFFF, but in game it just gave them a strange weapon called "tVest."  I'm obviously doing something wrong even though i reset the checksum with that program...can anyone help me out?

In PC version, checksum doesn't start at offset 0. You have to add few bytes to get the real offset.

I'd like to thank you, ZaxD, for putting me on to that editor. Now I can swap Cloud out of battles like any other character in PHS! I know you can swap him out using Jenova but Jenova doesn't make it permanent. Ta!

Although it should be noted that you should have either Cloud, Cid, or Tifa in your party (because the rest don't have paths and won't appear), while I was on the highwind I was able to control Yuffie and Vincent. Odd. Although when I went to Bone Village with my controllable Yuffie, Cloud appeared on the world map even though he wasn't in my party (normal), except when I was inside Bone Village, no character appeared but I was able to control an invisible character as though they were there (which isn't much good, but I'm still able to swap out cloud!).
