FF7 Patches reverting on their own
« on: 2009-06-15 16:37:57 »
So, I was playing the game totally fine last nite.  I wake up this morning to finish up some gaming before I head out to work and what do I see?
All the patches are gone and the saves are gone as well.  I never restarted the computer but just left it on.  I am running Vista sp1.  Anyone got any ideas? I know where my saves are, but i'm just wondering how come everything got reverted pack to pre-patch status.

**OH And on top of that, I had fixed my midi/mp3 issue last nite with loopbe, but now for some reason its not working anymore.  Even with loopbe I still hear that stupid midi file.

***Just tried running the game from the ff7.exe instead of ff7music "run ff7" button and all my patches are back to normal, except for the overworld cloud still looking like lego man...but it's fine in a town.  Guess I can't complain.  Still, anyone know why ff7music might have done this?  And why vista happen to move my save files to the "C:/users/***/appdata/local/virtual store/program files/square soft, inc/final fantasy vii/" folder?

You were probably trying to run a backup or have it installed in two places.

Nope.  No backup.  And I didn't install it in two places either.  I just installed like normal.  Applied patches like normal.  And ran the programs like normal.  Everything was fine up until this morning. Very strange....btw I still get random crashes here and there...most inconveniently I might add too because it always happens to crash when there are no save points and it's been a while since I saved (normally a story point)

**Okay, so I been trying to play the game to a save point but so far no luck.  I play from Kalm right after I get out of Midgar.  The story plays through until I reach the reactor at Mt. Nibel.  Thats when the game crashes or around there.  Happened three times now.  Haven't read anything saying that there would be game crashes there or any fixes.  Could it be from ff7music trying to replay songs? If so, how much it's just doing this now and not once through all of Midgar...?

if it saves to the virtualstore folder that usually means that you have UAC on in vista. This could be the reason for your troubles. (i mean your original trouble not the random crashes)

Backup your save file and any altered files (char.lgp, etc) to a different folder and uninstall all of FF7.  Then reinstall it and copy/paste all the files that you wanted to keep.  If that still doesn't fix it, get Windows 7  :-P

As for getting FF7music to work, check out my last post in the stickied FF7Music thread.  You may also need to check out Covarr's updated tutorial since you're using Vista
