FFVII Problems!!
« on: 2008-04-08 20:29:43 »
So recently I installed a bunch of patches that would improve the well being of FFVII running on an XP system. I actually own the PC version of the game (NOT ULTIMA) that i got about 7 years ago. I have the following patches:

1. ff7 v1.02 official patch
2. The SaiNt's High Res FF7PC Patch v1.00  (with integrated Jedwin's chocobo patch)
3. YAMP - Yet Another Multi-Patcher  by dziugo
4. Higher quality Cloud mod  by Dreakon
5.b) NPC Reconstruction Project for FF7PC 0.6 mod  by Borde+ice_cold513+Stormmedia
6. New Spell Patch  by zero88
8.1 ff7music  by ficedula  (100% working as it is)
8.2 ff7_lessdebug  by Aali  (usable with ff7music)

I've also moved all of my movies to a hard drive so that the game runs fast and smooth.

I was able to get these by bittorrent in a very fast fashion.

Anyways, this is my problem! The game runs very well, infact i recieve almost no errors when playing, but there are times when my game will start to lose its integrity after playing for about 20-30 minutes at a time. I actually own the original PC version as well as Ultima (got it about 3 years ago), because when i had xp only ultima would work. But the patches run the game fine, but i'll notice that after awile the game will start to play slower and the menu switching, in-game battling all starts to slow down and eventually my game freezes and I have to ALT+F4 to escape. This is the error I get and it spams this until I close FF7Music.exe after it crashes:

DD ERROR
ERROR: 80070057 One or more of the parameters passed to the function are incorrect. in FILE C:\lib\src\graphics\dx_view.cpp LINE 210

It looks like a Directx problem, and No, I did not install any directx components and did maximum install with the original FFVII pc install disk.

I've looked through all of the readme's in the patches and in this forum and haven't found a solution, any help would be appreciated.

Also, if anyone knows how to center the screen at 1280x1024 with saints high res patch, that would be great also because my screen is cut off a bit with a big black strip on the right and bottom of my screen. Thanks for any help.

Instead of starting a new topic I used the search function. Good boy?

Same problem here.
Same message, occurs everytime Cloud lies in Aeris' house in bed and remembers when he visited his mother in Nibelheim ("It's been a while since I've slept in a bed" or something) - It happens to a friend of mine.

Fascinating thing is: It worked for me, and I installed ff7 for him, just like I installed mine. I can't recall any difference between us.
We both use:
Windows 7 x64, Direct3D/HighRes AND Aalis Driver 7.7b (tried both, same problem), with FF7Music
I have AMD Athlon X2 7750+ 2,7GHz; he has some AMD X2 2,9GHz
I have XFX GeForce 9600GT (GT225), he has XFX GeForce GT250 (9800GTX+)
Both 4GB RAM. Both Compatibility Mode (Win98 for FF7, WinXP SP2 for FF7Music).

I guess I will just play the scene for him, but... There must be some reason. I bet someone may want to think about it.

Damn, and I just had this problem myself.    Ok I THINK what I did was reinstall my graphics drivers.   No need to to do any compatibility mode change and no need to use TheSaint's high res patch

Nope, Graphics drivers didn't do it.
Is there anything else you can suggest?

I played the scene for him, but now the game hangs everytime after 5 minutes, as he said.

Clue, anyone?

I'm using Win7 x64 and whenever I play ff7 with the compatibility mode set to Windows 98 I get a LOT of slowdown, plays fine when set to Windows xp sp2 however...

Sorry I honestly don't remember.  But there's no reason to set compatibility mode if you're using Win 7.
