Issues I have with this forum...
« on: 2010-05-25 20:54:54 »
This is a truly wonderful place, where I can feel like my "Final" Fantasy can come into fruition. Yet amongst all of these romantic and ambitious ideas and projects, one central theme has shown up time and time again: There are not enough ambitious people here trying to make the efforts put forth on these forums come into realization. I'm sure a few of the more serious and dedicated of you realize that with all the things that have been found out about the game over the years, and the stage of modding the game is at, that we could TOTALLY have the game redone in every needed way(no need to go crazy with it), in a year...

Some of the posts on here are from people having problems with all the content that is being put out, and that is perfectly understandable.2/3rd's of the posts are from people saying "I wanna do this", or "I wish I could do that" but they end up saying maybe they will learn programming/modelling/etc. To me this is a disturbing trend that has to be stopped now if the game is ever going to go anywhere.

Look people, square isnt going to remake this game anytime soon, and as loyal hard-paying fans of this series for half of our lives or more, I think we owe it to ourselves and the game to make it the best it can be.

I personally do not want to see any more I can't do it posts or I will learn it. If you are seriously interested in helping with anything,pm me here.I will respond quickly and help you with anything I personally can,and I wish anyone else on here would do the same.We ALL need to take our time to help our fellow modders(Or modders to be!) If you see a post and someone needs help,if you have ANY info on the subject, post it! Don't let the topic just sit there cause it didnt appeal to your interest... If we work together in a positive and helpfully effecient way, Anything could be done, we have the talent, we have the technology, so lets just f@#$in do it!

If anyone agrees with the points I have brought up, please post so thios issue can be discussed further.

Jeff

Good man, real good, I can texture,  and I have a small amount of c++ skills that I was actually brushing up on while you replied lol.I will be increasing my skill base heavily within the next few weeks, as I am planning something big, as you read in my other post.I could definately use your help, Just let me get the plan outlined in a well-though out and refined manner, and Ill post about it.

As far as this post goes, I wasnt saying you guys aren't motivated, I can name 20 or 30 users that are active very regularly, including you nikfrozty,I was trying to adress all the OTHER users that constantly want to do all kinds of crazy things but when told they have to learn stuff to do it, they say they will learn, and you know they won't.

Or for another example I've seen lots of posts where people require some assistance(on their new mod or program)or because they are a newb to modding, and people post that "they know how to do some of that, but with this and that going on, I simply don't have time..." You're on the internet in a Final Fantasy mod forum aren't you?
You don't have time to try and help this man with his problem for fifteen minutes here and there?Shame :-\

Thats the kind of thing I mean. I also think that we need more attention to whats going on here. I just came from overclock.net's pc game section and made a post about the ff7 modding scene. I directed them here for any info regarding it. That way we are getting attention to the mods and some ppl will want to help with these things.

Anyway I have some more learning and PR to do lol...

Jeff. What do you do during regular life? I know I have a job, go to school, and work on trying to learn new stuff. Currently in the middle of teaching myself flash and unreal development kit. You know how much I'm online. 10-15 minutes about two to three times a day. That is, online being sociable rather then school research or personal research (tutorials for photoshop, flash, UDK, etc.) So even though I'd really would like to complete my FF7 project I can only find time to think of a few bit and pieces ideas for it.

Similar with alot of other people on here. Either they give up cause it gets too complicated or normal life gets in the way. I'm not saying you have no life but I am saying don't expect a gung-ho attitude from all of us.

So you are a texturer and a programmer. Good.

No offense, but i think you might want to contribute something before you start criticizing other people here.

And if you think the whole game can be remade in a year then you better have a whole fleet of people working on it.

not to sound rude, but not everyone here spends 20 hours a day wondering how they can better the game, i know i got an upcoming surgery, class exams, video making, job finding, and a beautiful girlfriend. besides, don't you think, considering you haven't done to much yourself, your being way to condescending on everyone

i think we just need to better organize our collective knowledge. in a way that would benefit the group the most.

Oh god... I laughed a little.   Your enthusiasm is great it really is, but it's been seen before.  There will always be exponentially more people talking about how they "want" to do something, or something "should" be done, than those who actually do anything.

Personally, I shy away from answering "How can I fix this" questions, because I know once it's fixed that person will most likely leave... contributing nothing.  And 99.5% of the time the problem is easily fixed with a little searching and/or common sense.

All that being said, it's great that you have skill in texturing and know some C++, it'll be nice to have even more people working around here.

You got the idea of what I was tallking about.

Every user that has replied in this thread were from the list I said do go above and beyond.I understand that many people have many things to do during the day.

I'm 22,So I work around 40 hrs a week,I have a LARGE field of corn that I have to tend ALL the time,(worked on it for about the past 4 hours anyway.),Have a wife I just married april 13th,have to clean house, clean my fish and turtle tank and feed them, take care of my three labrador retrievers, etc etc etc.

My point is I have found much time to browse these forums and play ff7 some to see what you guys have done, althoug I have many other commitments before me.
And I apologize if I came off condescending, or arrogant, or that I was criticizing you guys..I'm not sure what projects nikfozty and furzball have been in, but I have seen many posts frm them and If I recall correctly I saw a save point you made nikfozty,

As for the rest of you I have seen all of your work and it is really great stuff too. I was merely trying to express that in the way I see it, We could use a great deal of I=information organization and planning of projects with some sort of schedule/deadline to keep us motivated ya know?

As far as my contributions here, you are certainly correct, I have given NOTHING, but I certainly DO NOT intend to keep it that way, in fact, I pmed you sl1982  about helping team avalanche for now. If any one has any active projects right now that they need help with I will be MORE THAN WILLING to help contribute. Just pm me the details and we can start working together!

Once again sorry if I sounded like an ass,I guess I couldve worded the post better, I knew the title sounded iffy, but I tried to be as polite as possible in the post, directly refferring to most of you here when I mentioned the very active users.

Glad for the help. Mainly right now we need texturers. Since you said you have some talent in that area maybe we could work on something. If you have MSN (windows live) PM me with your info.
