Suikoden II, FF Tactics, or other?
« on: 2011-12-10 03:51:54 »
I just finished Suikoden III.  I enjoyed it a lot, but as has been a theme for several years now, beating an RPG makes me feel like crap.  The result is many save files from various games that are 80-98% complete.  Anyway, I need to pick the next RPG to play.

Suikoden III was the first Suikoden I've played.  I haven't played the others.  I know some people might be appalled, but I have no attachment to playing the series in order, and through my research have decided that I'll probably enjoy Suikoden II more than the original.  So this is my first choice.

It has also been awhile since I've played through Tactics.  I feel like it is time to play it again.  I found some FFT 1.3 mod that apparently raises the difficulty and subtely and not-so-subtly alters a variety of details.

Pokemon Blue came to mind, but then the entire game flashed through my head and the desire was gone.  Not that it wouldn't be fun, I just remember it too well, and there are only so many different ways to play it.

So the choices are Suikoden II, FFT (standard), FFT (hard mod), or something else if someone can make a strong case for it.

For some perspective, here are some favorites of mine:

FFVII, FFV, FFT, Vagrant Story, .hack, original Pokemon (Red, Blue), DOC, Oblivion, Morrowind, and Suikoden III.  That is probably a good list, I'm certain I'm forgetting some, but oh well.

I'd try Suikoden V, it's great :)
Suikoden II is better than the original yup, try it you'll like it

but to tell the truth my favorite of the series is  Suikoden III
there's a character for everyone  and you don't have to be goody two shoes all the time :D

for tactics you can try Tactics Ogre too, if you haven't seen it

I don't own Suikoden V  :-\ But I'll look for the other PS2 suikodens when I go to buy Xmas gifts.

I had Tactics Ogre Advance a long time ago - I didn't beat it, but for some reason it didn't really keep my interest.  Might be worth another try though.

I really liked SIII, but I was pissed that there weren't any real challenging battles, or optional bosses.  Well...there kind of were, if you kept your party low lvl and tried to fight new treasure bosses the instant they were available it was kinda tough, but it seemed like there was a fine line between failing and obliterating most bosses.  I think I only died three times - The Yuber fight with Hugo in the Ancient Highway, First try at the Rock Golem at Mountain Pass with Geddoe, and First try at Luc, Sarah, and Yuber after Fire Rincar.  After I knew what to expect for the battles I lost on the first try, the second try was easy.

I think I am going to play SII, the reviews seem really good, I just beat SIII, and I have a feeling Tactics will go to slow unless I cheat, and I'm not in the mood for slow-paced games right now.

Haha Pokemon Blue. That's awesome. I just got Pokemon Black, and I have to say, they don't make em like they used to. You know it's pretty bad when your rival's name is N. Yes, just N. If you try out that FFT mod, let me know how it is!

I just finished "Yggdra Union".
I absolutely loved how unique that game is.
I'm playing "Knights in the Nightmare" now.
I'm definitely going to get the rest of the games in the series.
I hear they are working on an MMO.  I'll probably skip that one.

Fallout 1 and then Fallout 2.
You'll be a man after finishing those two.

I'd say reset your oblivion and morrowind along with any other bethesda games that you can find at "gamename" nexus, for mods. Download a hecka ton of mods to play in whatever style you want. Replay as garret from Thief in oblivion. Play as Duke Nukem in Fallout 3. So on and so forth. Also download quest mods so there are more adventure options.

Well I'm like 1/3 of the way through Suikoden II and its awesome.  Once I go visit my family after my classes are done, my brother can help me out with modded Morrowind and Oblivion (yes, I mod PSX games, and my bro mods PC and Xbox games lol).  I'd like to replay a tuned up Morrowind, so thats probably the next in line.
