FF7 Redesign (Added Wedge)

As part of a mini project, I'm doing small redesigns to the overall story, not too much work, its a tweaked difficulty, occasional new bosses, changed designs to the cast and its having an overall darker plot.

Snippets of the changes.

-Cloud (age 23) and Tiffany (age 22)-
Cloud never joined Shinra, he was going to leave town, but Tiffany talked him out of it, and he spent the next few years working in town as a farmer and helped the village guard with monster attacks.

Tifa helped at the village shop and was a popular tour guide for tourists that wanted to visit Mt Nibel.

After a reactor malfunction, Cloud's father and several other civilians were killed, causing Shinra to come for an inspection.

Zack, Sephiroth and some soldiers came to town, and Sephiroth completely lost his mind after meeting someone and killed most of the town and burnt it down.

After this, Zack left Shinra and Cloud was under his wing for how to actually fight.

After this, what remnants of Nibelheim split into two main 'teams', one was dedicated towards rebuilding the town, and the other half went to try to find work to get the money to rebuild the town.

Cloud became a drifting mercenary with Tiffany that managed to find themselves in Midgard when they got news that the town was almost finished, so they settled down together in the city to try to make a new life for themselves, and thats when they were approached by Avalanche...

Barret (age 35) & Avalanche
Barret's a former soldier 2nd class, he was in charge of a squad that was comprised of himself, Biggs, Jessie, Wedge and Ellie.

Ellie and Barret married shortly after Ellie was pregnant with Marlene, but one day, Shinra betrayed Barret's squad (because of -spoiler-) and then attacked them; all except Ellie managed to get out, but they all suffered in the aftermath.

Barret vowed to take down Shinra after this and Ellie's spirit became the driving force behind Avalanche.

Yuffie (age - 21)
She's now a bounty hunter that wants to take Barret and those that harboured him in, she plans to help Wutai with the money, which was suffering after they lost the war and Shinra stole much of their goods and destroyed many of their sources of argiculture as well as imposing a crippling tax on them.

Basically, she's much closer to the original character.

Aeris is more or less the same, except for minor differences.

Vlakorados
He's now an experimental biological weapon created by Shinra because they wanted more reliable attack dogs, he has no family, no homeland and lives purely to be experimented on for more data.

Vincent
Vincent is one of Hojo's test subjects, his sanity was destroyed after all the substances that were injected into him.

After this, he became addicted to inflicting pain and misery unto others, and he became a Turk to have easier access to victims.

One day, he captured a 'spy' (Lucretia) and spent weeks tormenting her physically and mentally, enjoying himself as he pushed her to her body's limits and occasionally raped her.

One day, she managed to get out of her shackle, which she used to strangle Vincent before finding one of his guns, shooting him several times, she locked him in a room under the Nibelheim manor.

Sephiroth
now a rape child between Vincent and Lucretia, her mother commited suicide shortly after he was born and he was adopted by Shinra to be put into a child soldier program.

He spent the next 6 years of his life building up a sense of friendship with his 'classmates' while learning how to use weapons, magic and several forms of unarmed combat.

During the final exam, he was placed in a dense forest with the only people he knew and was forced to kill them until only a single one remained; any students that refused to fight or attempted to run away were shot.

In the mod, he's more evidentially demented and when he loses his mind, he causes the Nibelheim massacre before making a break for it.

(we now actually fight Sephy instead of simply Jenova)

and thats some details about it, I'm rewriting the overall script, changing enemy AI (as needed), increasing enemy stats and formations, and other aspects as I see fit in it.

for the field models, I'm presently making it in the style of the CRP, but as it nears completion, I will do it in the original field models as well as the phoenix rejuvenation project style.

And if anyone cares to help me come up with character designs or aspects of this, I don't object to it, but send me a message rather than comment in this thread.

If anyone is interested in this, feel free to comment or send me a message.

Okay, and I can make it an enforced class system, or give you the freedom to openly change materia.

what would you rather?

If I gave everyone their own materia, it'll go a little like this.

Cloud - lightning affinity, uses Ramuh and his magic is status based. (confu, beserk, etc.)

Barret - earth affinity, uses titan and his other magic is protective. (barrier, reflect, etc)

Tifa - secondary healer, she's ice affinity, uses Shiva and has restorative magic.

Aeris - holy affinity, can use Alexander and the primary healer, she also has a new holy based spell.

Red - fire affinity, has Bahamut (now fire elemental) and time magic.

Yuffie - water affinity, uses Leviathan and se has the water tier magic and hot springs.

Cait Sith - gravity affinity, summon is Grunge Lance and his spells aren't fully decided, but he has 3 'free' magic slots right now.

Vincent - poison affinity, summon is hades and he can also use the 'destruct' materia.

Cid - wind affinity, his magic is just 'aero' and white wind.

Sephiroth would still have his normal setup, and during his battles he would make use of them.

I planned on making the enforced class system by giving everyone pre-set materia and disabling the materia menu within the game. (as well as stopping the events that can alter the equipped materia, ie, Yuffie's sidequest or before the rufus fight)

There, I'd set up everyone's materia to level up based on pre-set AP requirements and change most of the enemies to give only 1ap each.

for instance, after 30ap, Cloud could learn 'Bolt' and at 1000ap, he learns double-cut for instance.

the other materia (such as support and independant) would also level up, say, every 700ap you get an increase in strength for Cloud, Barret and Cid.

so far, this is the magic setup I have. I'm trying to balance it between who has what magic and commands, but there's only so many commands in FF7.

(some people are going to be 'capped' at 2x cut, whereas others <like Cloud> are going to have the full 4x-cut.)

that is however if I do the enforced class mod.

If I don't, then I'll just edit a few of the materias and call that a day.

Can't believe Vince on now a crazy rapist!!lol lol Your imagination is really good. Can't wait to see how the rest of the characters turn out. So won't this go along the original story at all??I mean where will the game begin from??

It'll follow the original story on a basis level.

for instance.

Instead of cloud being hired by avalanche because he was a super badass soldier, he was approached because he also had issues with shinra in his past and would be determined to follow their cause.

the first mission basically has BJW more or less 'testing' the 'n00b's' abilities, while Barret had some fasith in him, and after how well Cloud did, he got some respect back at the base.

After this, they were doing proper work together, which follows the original game.

and a change I am making is that Cloud more or less 'sacrifices' himself when the Airbuster attacks.
(they fight it, and had it been a story, Cl;oud delivers the finishing blow by stabbing its core in half, which initiates the self destruct, and his foot is stuck. But, he manages to knock himself and the airbuster off the bridge when it bloews up, destroying the bridge and presumably Cloud)

after this, we then have the Nibelheim flashback when Cloud's life is flashing before his eyes.

After this, Cloud wakes up 9 days later in Aeris' house.

(does anyone really believe he could fall that far and still be ABLE to get up, Jenova or no Jenova?)

more or less, I'm following the original story, but twisting aspects of it to make what I deem to be more believable changes to it and add further depth to each character that makes them all sleep with one eye open and with a kitchen knife under their pillows.  :lol:

1, cloud doesn't have the Buster Sword anymore, he has the Kariken, and 2, just because something is visible, it doesn't mean it isn't UNDER something.

I now have the materia sorted out for 6/9 people, but I didn't decide on the materia levels yet.
(Cloud, Barret, Aeris, Tifa, Vlakorado and Yuffie)

Sword = Lightning + Added Cut, Double Cut + Lesser Restore, Deathblow + Cover, Counter Attack + Morph

since my last post....

*I rewrote the game script up to the end of the first reactor.
*I made a design for Yuffie and did her models (field and battle)
*I gave everyone a materia setup. (No level system yet.)
* changed the events of the first reactor. (Barret put you in charge to test your abilities and we fight a new boss when Barret normally joins, but, Wedge is now a shop that gives you much needed items.)
*I came up with a design for Cid, but not a colour scheme.

Quick comment... Aeris' pink pants kinda throw the style off.

I think black pants would be better off.

I already tried black trousers, they made her look too dark.
as for her current look, it was the most popular with the groups and its the same palette that the normal Aeris worn.
(I had 15 different jackets and 15 different trousers, and this combo was viewed most positively.)

If you want, you are free to download the Aeris image and recolour the field model image using a program like paint and show me a recommended colour scheme, and if I like it, then I'll use it.

One thing I do know about coordinating outfits, hair color, etc from anime, game, cosplay, etc. Is that having two base colors versus more is always better. Simpler on how the eyes scan over an outfit or image. Try making the pants same color as her hair. Sorta makes for a dark earthy color scheme versus being brown, dark brown/black, and dark pink. For example when you look at her normal avatar, her main colors are pink ( ribbon and dress) and red jacket. As said before, you do what you want, I am just passing along what I have observed.

And yes I notice you matched the ribbon to her pants. It is harder to see if someone just does a quick scan so the three colors clash. Perhaps do her ribbon as the dark brown or black.

Also curious about her key necklace.

If you notice, she also no longer has the materia in her ribbon and it was replaced with the key with 3 gems in it. (materia, which no longer exists in the mod.)

instead of materia for magic, each person is just born with basic potential for magic, and if they choose to exercise it, then they could become almost godly.

The key has a certain importance, and depending on if Ultima Espio allows me to use his Aeris revival mod as a base, Aeris will die in an entirely different way.

(it won't be at the very end, but around the middle of disc 2.)

As for Aeris' current colours, its brown (hair) pink (ribbon + trousers) red (jacket) and black is 'void' and used for cuffs, belt, shirt and shoes.

I did experiment by making her shoes, belt and cuffs brown, but it looked off.

if anyone wants to recolour the field model's image and show me it, I will consider using that palette as I stated in my above post.

Well all of this is very interesting either way.

Quick question... do you plan to make an installer and an uninstaller (to make the process extremely smooth for transitioning back and forth between this and the original)?

And is there any percentage of being done?

More or less, this is a model change for the main cast, major enemies, and very important NPCs, an enforced job mod, and a rewrite of the story that changes certain aspects.

Ie, enemy stats, making new bosses, making bosses weak to certain characters, thus ensuring you need to use other characters, introducing new items, etc.

as for the final thing, Its going to be a patcher that puts it in, and if you want to change it, just keep a backup, since the uninstaller would just change all the files back to the initial install settings.

And this is a basic list of what was done:

but, since it makes it an enforced class mod, there is no more materia, but natural materia you find is being changed into special items and other finds, ie, 1500 gil near the second boss which is really recommended that you buy some items with it.

boss examples.

one of the characters has def ignoring magic, and a boss is going to have insanely high defence, and levelling until you can beat him WITHOUT that character is going to make you around 12 levels above the recommended level.

but, other aspects, ie, sector 7 pillar fight, will be made harder and you'll have a time limit to win it.

as for the percentage, I'm going to try making 2 main releases, the first one will more than likely just be the new models and the enforced class system, and the final one will have the complete story experience.

Are you gonna do some of the unfinished NPC?  that is really where attention needs to head from you modellers, we already have 1000 clouds.  Clouds on blue pink black buggy, cloud on a pony...  cloud in a flying wheel chair haha...
