I hope you guys have a copy of Gears....

Naru smashed....bad!

My hard drive controller decided to see what would happen if it shot some voltage down the wires. It blew both my root drive (Hda) and my *HOME DRIVE* (Hdb) taking out my primary "halkun" account, my primiary, and secondary WWW copies, and my beloved /projects directory.

Rest in peace, /projects/gears is no more....

My mp3 drive was untouched, as was my CDR as they were on the secondary contoller. I am, however, out a motherboard, two drives, and all my data.

I have a laptop, dokkun, that had about 40% of my writing backed up to it. This included my college papers (THANK GOD!) and some novels I've been writing. Also, I recently updated to Firefox on the laptop and have a very recent backup of my bookmarks. (YAY) and I keep my mail off-server. So damage-wise It's not that bad. The worst thing I lost in irriplacebale set of pictures of my friend, but I'm sure she would of wanted them gone by now anyway.

Gears is not here.

I'm sure the latest PDF and DOC exist somewhere. As for me, I negected the project while I was at school. If someone whats to take up the gauntlet, by all means do so.

The latest version of gears was gzipped.

I'm not going away or anything. I'll still be around, I just thought I would share in the bad news...

Damn, I was waiting to see if you'd get it back cos I deleted it recently by mistake and haven't seen it on your space for quite some time.

If anyone's got it - halkun, have you considered making it a Wiki? That way people can add/edit it when they need to, I'm sure someone would host it. Not sure how that would go down with legal statuses vs. the PDF gears but it was just a thought.

I don't have a server anymore, and I'm going through mp3 withdrawls ^_^ Someone can set up a wiki if they want.

Didn't you have this once before in the last few months? Did you have a dodgy power supply, or a spike on the power line?

I have a copy of the PDF taken around New Year, and it was originally gzipped if my memory serves me correctly. So at the very least, the document it not lost.

As for the wiki, I've considered adding one to qhimm.com but I'm terribly unsure how to organize it to make it easy to search and minimize double effort. An entirely free wiki would probably be dreadfully messy, so if we're starting one we should probably draw out some guidelines first...

You could try asking here at Bots-United how they did theirs. Look at their wiki here. I think they used the same thing wikipedia uses.

Yeh, my campus has the same one Wikipedia uses. It's okay but can be quite complex for smaller wikis. If not there's plenty of other PHP wikis around. Still it would be a good idea, being a community driven effort and linking it to the forum for user accounts (minimum post level to edit pages, for example).
