I don't know why but the game crashes each time i use Cid's Hyper Jump Limit Break on Proud Clod. Anyone have a similar prob? It was 'resolved' by avoiding the use of his Hyper Jump.

I know I solved crashes of one of Cid's limit break by enabling windows 98 compatibility mode on one of my computers.  You set it in the properties of your shortcut to ff7.  Might work for you.

I had that crash with Win98SE... and SBlive (they quit making updates for Win98) putting Direct Sound Accleration to Basic mode stopped the crash. It's inside dxdiag.

Sometimes the best thing you can do is take out the disc, wipe it off, and try again.

...Which is really helpful, considering that the disc is only used to play back movies (or to load the field areas if you didn't do a full install).  :-P

Not heard of this error before....
Dont forget you need the disc to actually start the game up!
