Biturn problems...

Hey, I just recently found this site and was amazed at all the high quality mods for FF7 that are being made (and I'd like to thank all of you for the hard work being put into them and that they've all worked beautifully for me with no problems yet :-)) when I noticed that people are still working on the NPC conversions I figured I could help out (I have experience in animation and can do basic modeling) only I'm having a problem with Biturn (0.87). I'm used to using MilkShape 3D and it's the only 3d modeling program that I have good experience with. Biturn successfully converts to .MS3D and it loads fine into MS3D but when I then view the MS3D file in Biturn its completely distorted. So is this just a problem that Biturn has when converting files?(although it converts the files from the "Battle>field conversion pack" fine and I can even change things and still appears correct). I would love to help out but it seems that it just can't convert the original ff7 models correctly :(. Also, where can I get a program that converts them back to the correct format for ff7 as it appears Biturn only converts FROM the ff7 format and not to. Hopefully somebody understands what I mean and knows (what I'm doing wrong?) or if its just a bug that will be worked out in future Biturn versions. Thanks!

Well I know that Borde mentioned making a new thread in the future that would show the overall progress of the NPC project and a tutorial.  I am also a big supporter of the project.  I'm playing through the game right now and it's always great to run across one of the "new and improved" NPCs.

AFAIK, there is no way to convert stuff to a format FF7 will take (at this time).  The work that you see here has been done only using models or parts of models that are already in FF7's model format.

Ah, thanks for clearing that up for me I was under the impression that we could make modifications and use them in FF7. I think I saw this somewhere else but what tools are you guys using to do the work you are capable of doing? I'll deffinately look into it and I'm sure it can't be too difficult. Thanks again.

Yes Aaron is right, as far as we know it is not possible to convert models back TO ff7, with none of the programs.
You can use Alhexx's Ultima to modify the existing ff7 models (you can change position of vertices and colours of the vertices if i remember correctly, please correct me if I'm wrong)

Yes Biturn is reading MS3D files little incorrectly, I know, its an old bug, and I have no time to fix it.

Be sure to look here: http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4351
Also you could look into http://forums.qhimm.com/viewtopic.php?t=4045 to read how are the guys doing their work.

Hi there!
Well, actually I use a little program called Kimera (look a few threads down in this section) to modify the parts of the existing models. It's a bit buggy, but It's pretty easy to use.
And, as I've said several times, redoing models isn't THAT hard. Try it, maybe you will enjoy it :-P.

Very nice program Borde, this deffinately makes the whole process alot easier. I'll deffinately be practicing with this so I can make some nice "hi-quality" models :) If I get good enough I'll post some of my work but thank you for this program, are you currently still working on it?

Well.... more or less :-P Actually, I'm not working on anything else than my studies right now. But I've been thinking of some interesting features to add. It's just i don't have time to work on it. I'll try to do it when I finish the exams (arround February).
By the way, thanks for trying. :)
