SMF user hide for Qhimm.com

...or killfile. Or ignore list. Whatever you want to call it.

Anyway, since the phpBB User Hide-extension doesn't (obviously) work for the forum anymore, and the SMF User Hide-Greasemonkey script doesn't work with current Firefox, I decided to do some hax0ring.

I'm no programmer, so this thing is basically just a combination of Unarmed's original scripts for both phpBB and SMF, and some trial and error. It does have the basic functionality; it can hide the posts of users you don't want to hear about, and it can hide their text when other people quote it. However, the really handy quicklinks for displaying a particular post or quote are sadly gone (because I couldn't get them to work) and it will catch only the quotes that have been done via the 'quote'-button above posts (in other words; the regexp expects certain kind of format for the username).

Compiling it into a real extension didn't work, so here's the Greasemonkey script.

You'll need a Firefox and Greasemonkey-extension to use it. ...I hope you know how to install scripts to Greasemonkey, if you are using it. :)

By default it's set to work only on Qhimm.com, but you can change that. I suppose it might work with any standard SMF board, but don't blame me, if it doesn't. My Firefox is 1.5.0.5 and the script works with it, I suppose that it should work at least with any 1.5. Not sure about 2, since I don't have it. Actually, I don't even know if Greasemonkey itself works with 2, for that matter.

Few screenshots for your viewing pleasure:

Hiding an user.

Hiding a quote from that user.

However, a quote without the standard format doesn't get caught.

Anyhow, you are free to use it. Just don't complain if it eats your computer. :-D I'm not a programmer, it's not my fault if it doesn't work!

No idea, sadly. :|

I don't have Firefox 2 yet (and I'm on a very limited bandwidth), so chances of me testing it are fairly bad, too.

Perhaps someone with Firefox 2 and Greasemonkey can try it?

Apparently Greasemonkey itself has Firefox 2 support now, so I guess there's at least a chance of this working. It's not guaranteed though, the reason I had to write this in the first place was that the old SMF version had stopped working with Firefox 1.5.

I can confirm that the script seems to be working as it should on Firefox 2 with Greasemonkey 0.6.6.20061017.0.

Good to have you back btw Jari! :)

As much as I'd love to ignore n00bs, it seems to me that the world as a whole would be better off if we helped them instead, such that they evolve into a higher form of humanity. It would be so great if n00bs could be cleanly integrated into society as productive working-class individuals, and it's our responsibility to teach them the ways of non-suckitude, rather than ignoring them and letting them continue in their vile paths towards disaster.
