<--- Has never purchased an apple product in his life, and doesn't ever plan to.

Why do people even still buy iPods? Everything that conducts electric current can play mp3's nowadays.

you know, I was a long time Mac user, and I still love Apple products.  I just want to know one thing...  Why have I never had any of these issues that people always seem to have with Apple products?

The worst I've ever had happen to me, was my iPod Video died on me after 2 years of being thrown around and being mistreated.  My brother still has his first gen iPod which stills sees regular use, works perfectly.  Oh, the backlight on my iMac G4 also died after about 5 years, during which the computer was seized and horribly mistreated by the secret service (they did snap the Airport card in half...still works somehow, I dunno why)

Am I just extremely lucky in that EVERY apple product I buy works and stays working until long after it should've died?  Or do I not hold a grudge against apple and so I don't treat my products like crap... except that iPod

Some people are just lucky.

And all but the most unreliable products only break in the minority of cases; something with a fairly high failure rate will still work most of the time. There have been people with IBM Deskstars and Seagate
7200.11s that have never had any problems.

Finally, Apple tend to market their products as being far more reliable than anything else on the market. If one believed their advertising and the claims of the more zealous Macfags, all PCs are swarming with viruses, crash every couple of hours and need to be fixed by professionals every few weeks, whereas Macs never ever have any problems. Naturally, this means that people will make a big deal when it turns out that Apple products do malfunction sometimes, and Apple have no-one to blame for this than themselves and their community. If Apple didn't market their stuff the way they do, no-one would make such a fuss about the occasional exploding iPhone. :P

*shrug* I've always had to work WAYYY harder to upkeep a PC than a mac.  Granted, I'm not the average dullard of a user, so I don't get viruses and stuff like so many people that I know do (in fact, its why two of my friends are now on Linux, I couldn't keep up with their needs for me to fix their computers, so I set them up with a stable environment prepped for all they need).

I dunno, I guess I'm just an apple fanboy at heart

I guess i was never that interested in mac computers because i heard that it was pretty difficult to customize them, since where i live it is more or less impossible to find any parts that work with mac, and one the main reasons i have a computer is so i may customize the hardware to my liking, that's just not possible around here with apple unless you travel 20 miles to the local apple agent and pay a heart-wrenching sum of money for a simple upgrade/repair.

This is why I don't tell my family that I'm good with computers (well, I'm good by "normal person" standards :P); I've heard so many horror stories about people who get designated as "tech support guy" for their social circle. ;D

And I haven't. Oh look, anecdotal 'evidence'.

Anyway, I have the worst of both worlds. My parents demand advice from me, ignore it, then blame me for whatever happens next regardless.

Hi, I'm a PC and I haven't had any trouble with Viruses, Trojans, Malware, etc for over six years (see: learned about the ways of the internets).

Maybe this is why I find the Mac advertising scheme so sad.

I've never had a BSoD. Ever.

I've hardly ever had any virus problems either; there've been a couple of times when I've been taken off guard but was able to clear it up myself, and my first PC had some adware, but I've never had any of the problems you see in those mac ads. TrueNuff TV has some responses to those ads, which I'm sure most of us have seen already.

Mind you, I didn't get my own PC until 2003 (my family was backwards with technology), so perhaps I missed out on the joys of the worst days of Windows.

Anyway, I have the worst of both worlds. My parents demand advice from me, ignore it, then blame me for whatever happens next regardless.

I have the best of both worlds. :P

My dad has never used a computer, which is a blessing, but I have an auntie and uncle who are the classic example of a computer retarded family. Apparently, they spent £1200 on their last system (pre-built, of course), but AFAIK they don't do anything with it that they couldn't do with a netbook (srsly: they play very basic games like 3D Tetris, use email, write letters and shop online; nothing more). Naturally, their computers spend more time being repaired and having viruses removed than they do being used. I sometimes wonder whether it would be a good idea to ask them for their old computers when they get rid of them (they're the types to throw whole systems away), fix all of the problems (which are likely to be easy to fix; I think there's a good chance that the staff at the repair shop they go to see them as easy marks and rip them off) and either use them myself or sell them.

I once used their computer and googled something; autocomplete showed me that they (probably my uncle) had been searching for terms such as "naked people". If it weren't for the fact that they obviously had no idea what they were doing, I'd have sworn they were trolling me; who the hell looks for porn by googling "naked people"? Well, it probably explains why their computers get so many viruses...

Does anyone else have fun stories about technologically retarded friends and family? ;D

SHAME!

my business uses Windows XP, but after windows 7 SP1 comes out they may update to 7 (waiting on their program to get official support)
I hadly have BSoD many times.. But all because i was overlocking and needed to up my nb voltage or cpu voltage ;p

Never have BSoD without Overclocking though.

Anyway here's my story of my mother. Her computer had a virus causing it to act funny. instead of taking it to me, She threw it out her window (literally) and bought a new one. Best i got.

Other then maybe my cousin asking me what Windows was and if she has it and the Windows XP bootscreen :P

Well, I suppose that if it weren't for people like that, a lot of computer companies would be out of business.

It seems that my family is relatively mild...

Ahah thats hilarious. The only problem is you have to explain to the person why the more ram he downloaded isnt speeding up his computer.
