Nice.  I can't stand KDE4, I like the concept, don't like the application.  I also think it runs like crap.  I'm partial to e17 to be honest, if only it wasn't so damn glitchy... Stupid beta software

if e17 finally gets a decent tray support i will also give it a shot. i don't like the general impression of slugginess that kde4 desktop has, even if the software has a pretty reasonable resource footprint. the various side apps are great, though (love okular and gwenview)

Man, I gotta know where you got those icons! Also, what OS is that?

I'm using windows 7 ultimate 64-bit :)

As for the icons, I got them from deviant art. It took quite awhile to find the icons i wanted though har har.

The gadgets, I'm using google desktop.

It's not even tray support, I like how E17's tray works.  My issue relies on the menu.  It tends to screw up way too often.  Like I'll install it, then Firefox is missing, so I gotta jump through hoops to re-add it, then giving it an icon is another story entirely.  Many of the GUIs for customization don't work half the time, and the config files are horribly laid out

idk whan the last time u used kde4 was but it has been getting much more stable and responcive since. kde4.5 is very snappy here , and i just put it on an old sempron 3300+ w/ a geforce4mx (intergrated) w/ 1GB of ram.even with desktop effects turned on the machine is still responcive and at least 2x the speed xp was on the same machine.

Yeah, it's been a while since I touched KDE4.  I think the last version I tried was 4.3

That being said, I like the concepts of KDE4, I really do, but I don't like the application.  I think the concepts could be realized a bit better.

EDIT: For example.  I hate desktop clutter, HATE IT, I have 4 icons on my desktop right now and it's driving me insane.  However, I like having a traditional desktop, something that you can't do with KDE4 (or I never figured out how to at least)

I like the look and feel of KDE4 myself, But when i last used it (KDE4.1 i think, maybe earlier) it was a lot slower then gnome was (on an athlon x2 5000+ with a single 9800gt)

Sadly the RAID support in Ubuntu/kubuntu sucks so i can't install it. Else i'd be using it right now haha.

To enable a "traditional"  you rt.click on the desktop and select desktop settings then Activity on the left side and change it to "Folder View"(this has moved a few times thats based on kde 4.5). i also hate icons on my desktop so i found it very easy to adjust to the "new" kde desktop style.

oh yea kde 4.1 was rather slugish mainly because of plasma being completely new. i have never tried to set up raid on a *buntu machine, but i do know there are a few people on the kubuntu forum that have raid set up. perhaps the community docs will help you with this https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Raid

I actually tried that, I have a "FakeRAID"0 system, and whenever i try to install dmraid tries installing to a single HDD instead of across them (assume thats how it would work) and it looks for a location that doesn't exsist. And thus, i get no bootloader :(

when you use a motherboard RAID controller. it's in the wiki above.

I'd get a real RAID controller. as it works faster and better. Buuuttt they are like $200 so i shy away from them haha

There seems to be information about it here and here. Most of it is completely over my head; I know nothing about RAID.

I like, i'm working on a more simplistic set up again, i found my desktop to be to busy with the nVidia wallpappers. And my wall paper changes every day instead of hour.

Also, anyone know where to find high res images like the one Bolsa has, i like brighter myself. But do like that one :D

Just use the resolution as a search term in Google Images. You can also request images of a specific colour.

This will get you most wallpapers around, because they're usually accompanied with their resolution.

To see mine in it's full setting takes three pics, first is the basic view without doing anything...

Second is the start menu and task bar, which is hidden by default...

And finally, the third is where I keep my "desktop" files...

As you can tell, I run a very clean desktop, and my religious affiliate is blatantly obvious. The "watermark" in the bottom right is because I'm running windows 7 64bit ultimate in test mode so I can use my ps3 controller to play FFVII with an original playstation style controller, and you need to use custom drivers for that, which have no digital signature and 64 bit windows requires driver signing unless in test mode.

Of course, I'll post my ubuntu desktop sometime in the future, and both my server desktops too, but that's for another day when I feel like taking screenshots on them, putting them up and posting on here.

I'm probably buying a 1 or 2 TB harddrive tomorrow night, so expect to see an OS X screenshot soon (if I get it running well (meaning getting Wifi working, which seems to be a bitch on an EeePC) I may try to get FF VII running, which would then mean fuck-all to Windows... not that I won't keep the recovery partition, just in case)

My desktop images changes quite often ( :D ) so here is another one. In about a week, if this thread isn't dead, I may post another.

Can anyone guess who that is on my screen?

You are correct. I tend to have slight obsessions over characters (usually females) every 3 months or so. She is this quarters. Funny thing is, the last time I played a Crash Bandicoot game (about nine years a ago) I absolutely hated playing as her.

I was planing on posting another Desktop image (I've changed it yet again), but it seems a bit to early to post another, so I'll just wait to do it.

Why does she look so yandere in that image?

I'd be wary of her; from the looks of things, if she catches you playing a game with a different girl in it, you'll wake up the next morning with a certain part of your body missing. If you know what I mean
