@josheru
Have you installed a driver for the PS3 d-pad?

  • Right click My Computer and select Properties.
  • Scroll down to the section called "Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings" and click on Change Settings.
  • In the Advanced tab, click on Environmental Variables.
  • Under "System variables" find the variable named Path, highlight it, and click Edit...
  • Variable value should have a long string of directories that are separated by semicolons ( ; ). Add ";C:\Windows\system32" to the end.

Let us know what happens.
Basically, the variable "PATH" should have a part "%SystemRoot%\System32" as the first entry.
This is the same as "C:\Windows\System32" provided one has the OS on C:\.

I've been trying to get this mod to work for a few days now unsuccessfully and am stumped. No matter what I try and do I always get the "Access Denied! Installation aborted!" message when trying to run the bootleg.exe through the BFE.exe application. I've done the following in an attempt to allow access:

1. Ran both applications (bootleg.exe & BCE.exe) as administrator through the file properties
2. Disabled AVG / firewall settings
3. Moved all files and folders associated with FF7 and the mod into a separate drive solely made for the mod installation
4. Took ownership of all files located in the FF7 folder (including the mods)
5. Logged into the actual root administrator account and tried running BCE.exe from there
6. UAC is off

I don't know what else to try.. I run Win7 64bit by the way.
try the following
1) Start BFE.exe
2) select "Installation"
3) goto "Temporary Files" and select a non-system-folder, eg "D:\Bootleg040-Cache"
Note, you will need about 20GB space, Bootleg is very wasteful here.

Code: [Select]
...
INFO: Mod Path: "G:\Tifa's Package [Bootleg040 Mods]\;C:\Users\Dark Angel\Downloads\;G:\Tifa's Package [Bootleg040 Mods]\"
May interfere with the apostrophe ...?

Can I change the translations after I've run the bootleg? I chose the wrong option it seems.

Already done. These are what my current locations look like, a long with the current installation drive and all it contains.

Sidenote:
If you are uninstall the game the whole game folder will deleted, regardless what's in there.
Therefore I have placed bootleg and all mods in a separate folder.

But this has nothing to do with your "Acess denied" problem.

For me (Win 7 Ultimate 64 Bit) BFE.exe and Bootleg.exe works without I give explicit admin rights, without take ownership and without UAC turned off.

Your problem is really a hard nut ...
I'm going to tinker a little batch file for you, let's see if we get out what.

This sometimes works for the ACCESS DENIED problem.

Q:I am receiving an ACCESS DENIED error when running Bootleg.
A:Right click on Computer (or My Computer) and go to Properties
Scroll down to the section titled, 'Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings' and click Change settings
Go to the advanced tab, and click on Environment Variables
In the System variables field, find the variable named 'Path', select it and click edit
Notice the long string of directories from C:\ each separated by a semicolon
Make sure that C:\Windows\system32 is in the list
If not add ;C:\Windows\system32 to the string
  No more access denied

HI, I have a question, I've been trying to get the high resolution Sephiroth
as a field model.

My Setup Is all PPR Classic With a high resolution Cloud strife, Barret,  and Sephiroth (only in battle).

I'm using The 2012 PC version (for achievements and performance) which does work with modified "LGP" files.  Anyways, I was wondering if anyone could upload The "char.lgp" file with my PPR settings along with the high resolution sephiroth as a field model.

Many Thanks if anyone could help!

I think I added the G: path for the second install because I moved the mods from my D drive to G instead of selecting it so now it contains both paths. However, I believe that it just searches those paths for the mods, so I don't see how that would affect/cause a broken LGP file. If the mods are being installed (for the most part correctly), what could be causing the broken field LGP files if I'm not getting errors in the Bootleg.log for those particular mod installs? I have uninstalled and re-installed the game a third time, and tried the mod once more. Yet again, the same error.

So, I ask again, what is wrong with the installation process that is causing the broken LGP file? I know it's a broken LGP file, but how do I fix it?

This worked for me, but only after I put the system32 filepath on the front of the list, as oppose to at the end. Thank you very much for the post - very odd this would be the thing to fix it.

I did not mean that you have the path in there twice, but this is an apostrophe in it
Rename it into (eg) "G:\Tifas Package Bootleg040 Mods", change this also in BFE.exe.
Maybe it is because of the apostrophe, or the brackets...

If that works, that's good.

But I can not understand it ...
Would you be kind enough to write me the contents of 'Path' once in here?

HI, I have a question, I've been trying to get the high resolution Sephiroth
as a field model.

There is no high resolution for Sephiroth in field. Only in battle.

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. However, I tried what you suggested and still got the same error. So, what else could cause a broken LGP field file?

"BFE.exe" seems not to have the parameters passed to "Bootleg.exe".
Are the two programs in a system folder?

I have followed the tutorial exact....both programs are in the ff7 file I made.  All mods are either yellow or green.  I can't get the Final Fantasy VII Configuration v1.02 to pop up after i run bootleg.

Does this mod include anything for new enemy models?  At least, mine don't look like the Kotaku article:
http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/07/how-to-make-final-fantasy-vii-look-like-an-hd-remaster/

It has an animated gif with an enemy model that looks much better than mine.  Is this a different mod that's not installed by default?

Hiya, wish I could read German so I could use this: Kaldarasha's German Reworked Mod I highly recommend it.
I think the instructions on there will help you. I think some are in German even but if not, you should probably: reinstall completely (make sure everything is deleted from install folder) and use Kompass63's Registry tool and then his Game Converter .8b, then install bootleg, last the Reworked German mod (assuming you want to use that).
Also:

I haven't ever tested the Translate text option in bootleg, did you try that? I think either way, even if you are in English after bootleg, if you install Kaldarasha's Reworked German mod, the game will be in German after.
Also: I have heard that Menu Overhaul isn't completely compatible with languages other than English. You may find your battle menu is a bit glitched (but useable) with Menu Overhaul. I think perhaps Kompass63 and RedXell w/ Kaldarasha addressed some of the Menu Overhaul issues (for German only).

That scorpion model, along with a matching Mech Sweeper, are an official Team Avalanche release. It is compatible with bootleg and is included with Tifa's torrent. You select it in bootleg on the Models tab:

Hiya, I don't have any specific suggestions because you just haven't given us much information about where you installed to and how your files are set up. BUT I think reading the following suggestions for DarkAngel777 might be helpful to you:

Sorry, I misunderstood what you were saying. However, I tried what you suggested and still got the same error. So, what else could cause a broken LGP field file?
I think he was on to something. The destination path, mod path should maybe be simplified for testing purposes. As an example: Here are the same several lines from my last bootleg.txt:
Code: [Select]
INFO: Bootleg Version 2012.12.31 Version .040
---------Bootleg System Paths---------
INFO: Destination Location: "C:\Games\FFVII\"
INFO: Mod Path: "C:\FF7Mods\;C:\Users\Katelet\Downloads\;C:\FF7Mods\"
INFO: Temporary Files: "C:\Users\Katelet\AppData\Local\Temp\Bootleg_Setup\"

AND Here is a screenshot of the bootleg installations tab that produced those pathing codes:
Let's get rid of as many variables at once as possible. First off, I don't use spaces in these directory names, out of habit. Also, I don't like the idea of installing FF7 to a path, and then just moving the whole game directory somewhere else, that seems like asking for trouble. Even if it works for some people, it's just bad form. You should install the game to the path you are actually going to use (if you didn't). Keep your mods folder OUT of your game folder.  Since you've already installed the game and bootleg, and are having troubles, I definitely suggest a COMPLETE uninstall, as I discuss at the top of this post. I would delete the entire install folder permanently (not your mods folder), run the ff7 registry key tool linked above, then reinstall the game and give Kompass's Game Converter a shot. Then Bootleg that sucker. Hope this helps.

The error in elminn_1 is normal when installing the menu overhaul from DLPB, that is supposed to happen.

yes I'm aware of that, but Is it possible to make one for the field?

TheHierarchy, you lose achievements, you do know that.

When you run Bootleg's conversion yes, but you can also load the 2012 version which can read the edited LGP files too. for me running the 2012 version plays faster on my PC and is more stable.

Well, the one I have made is. I would say he's even better as the battle model.

I would really like to see it, though i would also like to have the battle model as a field model, he's the best looking version to my knowledge (from what I've seen) and completes the matching aesthetics of the "PPR classic" style i'm using.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Also i was wondering, are there any programs that can read and edit LGP files and can safely run on Windows 8?

I am running Windows 8 Home Premium and I cannot get the bootleg to run successfully. I have tried setting all that I can to run as admin, and when I run it separate from BFE it runs as admin and gives me some options to set (cloud's skin etc.) but after trying to manually input all the data it just ends and seems to have done nothing. How can I get the program to run as admin when I click on the BFE button? I have installed to an outside system directory and am running from a steam DL.

Just to clarify, I have tried several means of altering the UAC permissions with some third party software but haven't found anything to work. I have spent nearly 3 hours today going through questions and searching Google for ways to bypass the UAC too for this but haven't found anything. One thing that seemed promising was something called secpol.msc but it is not included in the Home Edition of Windows 8.

Thank you for your help in advance :)

@MJB428

Lots of issues with STEAM... I installed bootleg on a fresh steam build this morning to double check. Seemed fine.

Guys, Kompass63 has a new version of his Game Converter out.
I wanna suggest it for anyone having trouble with getting through the bootleg process itself.
Please completely uninstall STEAM itself in order to move it outside of the Program Files directories. (If it isn't already) If that's already been done and STEAM itself is outside your program files directories, then:
Use Kompass's Remove FF7 Keys utility to clean your registry.
Then install steam (outside the program files directories), then install ff7, the Game Converter, and finally, bootleg. Some people are having success with this method. Lets see if we are on to something.

After the GameConverter you should start the game once, befor you go on with Bootleg.

You can't use a direct replica of a battle model in the field because they have more bones and such, but there are good field models.
