Sounds like you have either a downloaded, or "not full install" version on your comp.  In either case, we cannot help you.  Only the "Full install" of the retail version of ff7 (with 1.02 applied) will work correctly.

Try playing these parts w/out the high-res patch.  I figure there's a 99% chance they won't work anyway.

I'd say "make sure TNT is checked", but the game (w/ high-res applied) won't work period unless it's checked off anyway *shrugs*.

dont call me stupid ok just because i use shorthand because it is quicker than writing things out fully does not make me stupid.

Try:

"Don't call me stupid, okay?  Just because I use shorthand --because it's quicker than fully writing things out-- does not make me stupid."

There.  See, the problem is that you SEEM to be "stupid", "when u talk like this with shorthand and no punctuation so it seems like ur talking like a 5 y/o on speed and maybe crack i dunno and its all in 1 breath lol".

See the problem?  You wanna play with the big kids, you play by big kid rules.  And my main point was, if you don't even know propor grammar, then hex editing is probably a bit beyond your capapbilities.  Hell, I can't wrap my head around hex editing either, so, I fear about how confused somone like you would get if others tried explaining it.  that's all.  I suppose I shouldn't discourage you from trying, though.

Just... try to learn how to use commas before you break the forum's collective sanity.  Please?

One thing i forgot to ask, is there any weapons / bracelets that can be stolen but not bought from a shop?

Circlet (Ultima WEAPON) Adamine Bangal (Adamantine), uh, you can steal something from the Cactaurs on cactaur island that you can't get anywhere else... Vagrysk claws, uhm, Ziedrich from Rude... Elegor gives you the striking staff for Aeris, and while you CAN buy it, well, who wants to be stuck with aeris's striking rod until Junon?

Stealing, i think, is a primary compononet of the game and shouldnt be completly removed.  Just my 2 cents.

What are you, racist?

Sounds like the color on the characters isn't being recognized.

Post your system specs, and try the game without any AA on.

No, MPG just enables a frame limiter.

Actually...

If you read the first post, Dziugo talks about a "hijack" option, which, if i understand his explanation correctly, will set the snowboard game to use a different memory address.  However, I don't have any clue what memory address you should try and use.

I'm not quite sure how much that would help you anyway.

DZUIGO: I have a suggestion.  I'd like to post this patch on my website; however, the zip does not contain adaquate usage instructions, and, i'd hate to have to answer shitloads of e-mails asking me for help, and i'd have to link them all to this thread anyways... SO, I'd like it if you'd include instructions (maybe a change log, also?  Nah...) in the zip.  If you're short on time, that's something even -I- can do (I've had to do it a few times anyway =P), in which case I'd like to ask your permission so that I may write a readme, stuff it in the zip, and toss it on my website.

(There's something grammatically atrocious about that last sentance, but, i can't be buggered to figure out how to fix it)

Seriously though, I don't think the problem is that people comment on SaiNt's hard work by suggesting new features and fixes. As a developer, I know that we usually do appreciate ideas for the next step of our projects. The problem would be the lack of good, realistic ideas. Some people have absolutely no idea how ridiculous their suggestions are (in terms of "fix", "improvement" or "completely new project"), while others don't bother first checking if what they're wondering has already been said and answered. Most appear generally ungrateful by not commenting at all on what has already been done (through long nights of blood, sweat and tears) and just comment on what would be needed to make the patch a good thing in their eyes.

I think that's the annoying part.  Might I suggest you use your awesome, admin-like powers to perhaps split this thread up (ie prune out all the "useless" psots, like, well, this whole page so far?)

Quote

I realize that a project like this for a game as popular as this does get quite desirable and widespread through word of mouth, so there'll be a lot of people who just catch wind of the patch and see that it's almost usable for them. Still, I imagine it's not very motivational to read that 90% of the response to your work consists of people less intelligent than you feeling a need to ineloquently inform you that your work is inadequate.

Time for me to get on MY soap box for a moment...

*ahem*

Ok, seriously, WHO KEEPS SPILLING THE BEANS?!  I've seen posts for tech support for various patches that came from THIS forum, all over the web (Ac.net, gamefaqs, etc).  So that means some idiot(s?) is going around, promoting and distributing NON-finished products, made to be tested out by reasonably intelligent people, NOT miscontuted as a finished product to be used by any idiot.  I just feel that there's something wrong with that, and, i wish that whoever keeps trying to be some second-hand tech-mesiah by telling all their ignorant, 13 year old friends about the work on these forums would CUT IT OUT, at least until the projects in question are complete.  There's a reason i don't have this patch or the high poly-models patch or the Mini games patcher on ff7-universe yet; they're in BETA, and the last thing i want is to have to answer e-mails about "why doesn't this work" (And as far as the MGP goes, it's a command line program, and i doubt many people would understand that; its readme does not contain adaquite usage instructions)... My only recourse would be to link the complaining parties back here... and the problem starts all over again.

Seeing as how you can't even form a gramamtically correct sentance, I'd say that hex editing is a bit beyond your cognitive capabilities.

That's a "no", btw.

Or, we could help you, but you could very well end up destroying your ff7 beyond repair, and, I don't think anyone wants to be liable for that.

Just wait till someone makes a patching utility, I guess =)

...that doesn't sound right.  Are you sure it actually patched correctly?

Mayhaps you should post in the high res patch thread about your fsaa problems.  I'm sure Saint will be better able to help troubleshoot the issue =.

well, each new driver release makes it less and less compatable with riva tuner, so.. you're better off downgrading to the 70's series.

But the high-res patch is also reccomended =)

286
starlith: this patch actually changes ff7's game code, so, that would be a big fat no.  Someone would have to take ff8 and make the changes manually, then set up a patcher to make those changes on other people's systems, which is all this patch does.

287
*smacks grisu* Don't double post, and read the f-king thread!

Saint implemeneted no-gridline AA several versions back.  Somewhere in the middle of this thread, i think...

And i aslo asked him at the time to make an independant aa patch, and he has said no for the time being.

If i recall correctly, those are files that are used for old voodoo cards o_O

as per the 1.02 patch, just drag "ff7.exe" and "ff7config.exe" into your ff7 folder and overwrite.  Then, presto, it should work =/

the "XP patch" is a hack.. litterally.  Don't use it.  It's just a fucked up version of 1.02, jedwins chocobo patch, and a program that fucks up a file in your windos system directory or some shit. So, AVOID "the xp patch"

Is this the same code used for battles? Because I recall that FF7 doesn't actually bother to render the scene at the bottom covered by the UI box. :P

Actually, they have an Aeris resurection code hidden under there ;)

(waiiiit for it...)

It's a problem with the 1.02 patch.  I've asked Saint to ty and fix it in his high-res patch.  There's probably some random string of hex that needs to be adjusted.

Note that the effect still happens (when the screen pans up, you can see it), but for some reason, the front part of the background that we see at first overlaps it.

Also, i'm fairly certain that software mode does not encounter this problem.

This should probably be in GAME TWEAKING, unless someone here can off-hand figure out a solution

I took note of the fact that the geforce properties and general hardware seem to conflict as far as pci/agp go.  Other than that, I'm stumped =/

Hmmm...

The sound synchs for the first ~45 seconds of an fmv, but then gets worse.  This is bad, particulairly for the first and final fmvs, which both last longer than that =P The video continues to get lagier, and.. blah.

Dziugo, you think the onboard nforce sound is doing it?  I never really had a problem with... it...

...

before i started using the latest drivers... hmmmmmm.  I'll try the ones that came WITH the mobo.

I dunno, it's just wierd, because this seems like a VIDEO issue.  The sound isn't what's going fast.. but if somehow the sound is being a resource hog due to bad drivers...

Sorry, just rambling aloud =)

Support Ati cards good? I just bought a amd 54 3500+ processor that has an ati raedon 200 express card in it. How well will it run final fantasy VII pc, I have never used an ati card... So, I don't know if this game only supports tnt/nvidia card. What this means is will I be able to play the high resolution patch with ati cards or is it only for tnt/nvidia cards?

AMD 54?  Damn man, you're behind the times!  the 64 is all the rage these days!

And I think the high-res patch supports radeons, and even allows AA, so, you're probably good there =)

However, i don't know about ff7's compatability with a 64-bit chip or 64-bit-based operating system... test it and find out for us!

I think those transparent dialouge boxes (also seen in battle) would need to be defined individually.  I've never takena  clsoe look at the text properties in field.lgp, but for each section, it defines the color of words, and maybe, just maybe, may define if a box is transparent or not.

So, it may be possible, it would just be a lot of monotonous, time-consuming work.

Did you select TNT mode after you checked the nvidia box?

Done and done... and things are now slightly noticably worse o_o

I can't understand this.  At all =/

The only thing i havnt tried is overclocking my video card.  Would that do anything? (I'd like an opinion or two on that before i go and ruin the thing =P)
