First start FF7Config to adjust sound and MIDI.
Second run ff7_opengl_corrected.reg in order to integrate the driver (see also here).

Each time the original FF7 Config starts, it will automatically reset the display driver.
After that must be activated with the reg file Aalis driver again.

Am I really so hard to understand?  :'(

On thing that was changed in the FAQ: Place "Mult.dll" into the root folder.
Is this still right?: (F:)/Games/Steam/FFVII/SteamApps/common/FINAL FANTASY VII >>(I put them here)<<
YES
Or does it go into the DLL_in folder?
NO

It seems that the FF7 Converter automatically includes Aali's drivers v 0.7.11b (at least, I believe so; the documentation in the thread is a bit unclear - http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=14047.0 )

I wrote there
Quote
UNZIP NOT Aalis driver 0.7.11b into the game folder. (included with "Everything is made of light" Fix)

What exactly do I have to write, so that is clear?

If your game folder is not in a system folder (ie not in "My Documents", not as a folder on the desktop, not in "Program Files" or similar), you can Aalis driver 0.8.1b unzip directly into the game folder.
Overwrite the already  existing files there.

Then you must edit the file "ff7_opengl.reg" (right click on it and choose Edit).
Find the line

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\VirtualStore\Machine\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics]

and replace with

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\VirtualStore\Machine\SOFTWARE\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics]

Also find the line

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\VirtualStore\Machine\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics]

and replace with

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Classes\VirtualStore\Machine\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Graphics]

Then save the file and load it right again into your Editor, to make sure that the changes were really saved.

After that you edit the file "ff7_opengl.cfg" and re adding this line:

load_library = Multi.dll

Now Aalis driver 0.8.1b is integrated and you can install other mods.

Uh, not sure I really understand that one. So here's what I've done according to the FAQ:Done.Done, hopefully. I put those files here: (F:)/Games/Steam/FFVII/SteamApps/common/FINAL FANTASY VII/>>(I put them here)<<Did this, although I already had it to begin with inside the DLL_in folder*.*Yep, did this. Here's whats in my DLL_in folder now: FF7anyCD.dll, FF7anyCDv2.dll, Hext.dll, Hext_Reademe.txt, Multi.dll
Maybe I have to remove FF7anyCD.dll?Did this, and I didn't need to- it was already there. It says:
     # Load Multiple DLLs
     load_library = Multi.dll

You do not need two times the same DLL.
delete the old (red) and keep the new (green).

« on: 2014-02-15 03:06:10 »
If you have used my Game Converter an original English flevel.lgp is in the folder "BackupGC\data\field".
You can copy it to "data\field", but you lose all the modifications to the flevel.lgp.

In addition, you have FF7 in a system folder, modifications are there problematic.
At best, you delete everything and start again from scratch, this time please use the Game Converter 0.10b.

106
Some mods are not compatible with 0.8.1b.
If you've used bootleg, you must continue to use 0.7.11.

- I placed multi.dll in the 'Final Fantasy VII' folder.
There are two different versions, one of DLPB (90 kb) and one of Kranmer (4 kb).
DLPB's needs a subfolder "DLL_in" in which other DLLs are there.
Kranmers needs a subfolder "LOADR" in which other DLLs are there.
Copy missing DLLs best in both folders ...

- added 'load_library=multi.dll' in 'ff7_opengl'.
               load_library = multi.dll
should it be, blank space before and after the =

When I open the game, none of the controls seem to work. I can't select Continue or New Game.
The game is controlled using the NUMPAD.
If you do not have NUMPAD, install the Laptopkey patch.

I ran the registries, and went in to the Config file to switch to Aali's driver, although it doesn't appear.

First start FF7Config to adjust sound and MIDI.
Second run ff7_opengl_corrected.reg in order to integrate the driver (see also here).

The opening movie isn't loading, but I can get to the main New Game/Continue screen.

The old game has movies in TrueMotion2.0 format.
Aalis driver should be able to play this, but I have not tested.
If it does not work, you can install the K-Lite pack 10.3, this works for me.

Setting in Config are set to full screen with Riva 128 bullet is checked, all tests pass except for the 8-bit paletted textures. Sound works just fine.

Please set to "TNT"...

This may have to do with the installed codecs.
I recently did the K-Lite Mega Pack 10.30 installed, so everything seems to be working.

110
Previously  i edited the ff7_opengl.cfg and now my mod_path is mod_path = Facepalmer\     but the game didnĀ“t load the hi textures.
And I think you have to remove the \ behind mod_path = Facepalmer\

you have to edit "ff7_opengl.cfg" with Notepad and set the resolution to a value that is supported by your PC.

FF7 is controlled with the numeric keypad. If you have not, you must install the LaptopKeyPatch.

113
1. Extract the archive into your ff7 or ff8 folder
I had assumed that this sentence is understood by ALL.

Error I get when running the converter is
Insert Multi.DLL, Hext.DLL, language file...... The system cannot find the path specified
? ? ?
Please post FF7_GC.log here.
What files are contained in the folder "DLL_in"?

117
Shaders are no longer an option!
You must insert the shaders!

I can't seem to find the app.log, I searched through the entire computer and only found 2 which are from FF7.
I'm probably doing something wrong for not having the app.log am I?
Maybe forgot to install patch 1.2?

EDIT: I can't post the APP.LOG because of this "Then, post your APP.log that lies inside your FF7 folder..." (or FF8 in my case) "... (only relevant if you launched the game at least once) like this:"
Without shaders there is still a app.log

Graphical / Re: Video Mods

Yes, there were (or still are?) Problems with the graphics card driver.
I use 13.5BETA without any problems, just google it.
However, problems exist with Aalis driver (openGL) and also not related to the video.

To the old game a codec must be installed, which allows you to decompress TrueMotion.
However, the single TrueMotion codec does not work when the K-Lite pack is installed.
In this case, the TrueMotion codec must be uninstalled.
Instead, you can activate with "ffdshow video decoder configuration" the TrueMotion contained therein.

The game requires a volume with name "FF7DISC1" (or FF7DISC2 or FF7DISC3).
This can be a USB stick, SD card or a hard drive partition, that does not matter.
Thanks AnyCDv2 of Kranmer only one volume is required.

Runs the video without Aalis driver, with 0.7.11 or with 0.8.1b?

To be honest I would recommend, close your page proof.
Why should other people care for your project if everything here is already available.

Hi Arsirus UK,

I suspect that you have my FF7 Game Converter not yet discovered, there is already some contain what do you recommend for installation.

Version 1.02 patch is included.
The Chocobo patch is no longer needed for Win 7 (XP only).
Resolution Mod = Aalis driver 0.8.1b    Would have been nice if you had Aali also mentioned.
True Motion codec is important for the 1998 Version only and is also included in my GC.
Any CD DLL (of Kranmer, again not mentioned) is also included in my GC.
Also your registry key for the movies found on 64-bit systems elsewhere.

I think you should read through that here again exactly.

Not converter obsolete; ff7config obsolete..
ff7config calculates the value of "Sound_GUID"
Unfortunately, I do not know how to find out this value otherwise

We don't use midi anymore so when does it crash?
The game wants to play MIDIs.
That it can be diverted to other music files does not matter, for the game, the MIDI functionality must be available.

ff7config + nvidia can crash as Kaldarasha said
It would may be possible to integrate the appropriate settings in the converter, but I can not correct because I do not have Nvidia's Optimus solution.

Sorry about that, I was posting from my phone while heading off to work.
First gripe before you ever know what's going on...  :x

It would be nice if either of these apps were open source, or if the process that they execute were described in detail.  Otherwise I'm left to diff the directory and registry for changes to try to figure out what you're doing.
My GC is not intended as open source, but it is a self-extracting WinRar archive.
So you can unpack the EXE with WinRar or (maybe) other packers.
The most important file that I have made, is the "FF7_GameConverter_0.9b.bat".
Anyone who knows anything about bat files can very accurately comprehend everything, including the changes to the registry.

It made me wonder why it's still necessary when we're using Aali's opengl driver.   I'm tempted to diff the registry and document all the records necessary for the game to run so we can make that file obsolete.
Aalis driver works exclusively with the old (1998) version of FF7.
For this reason, the conversion of the Rerelease or Steam release is mandatory.
A converter (no matter which one) will never be "obsolete"
But I have hope that my converter is taken over by PitBrat and will be integrated in the next bootleg.

Second edit: I can run ff7.exe without running ff7config.exe at all by setting the following registry key:
Code: [Select]
[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Classes\VirtualStore\MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\1.00\Sound]
"Sound_GUID"=hex:00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00,00
Congratulations!  ;D
You have one (of two) keys found, which causes the old FF7.exe to start the FF7Config.exe if there is an empty value.
With the FF7Config.exe the correct value is then entered.
The value 00 is wrong and leads to a crash.
Another problem is that the key among the different requirements has to be at various positions.
Even to start with admin right or not makes a difference.
I have FF7-old installed under many different conditions and checked the registry.
I think I have covered all the conditions and the matching keys, but I'm only human :-)
My GC deletes exactly this value in (hopefully) all positions, so FF7Config.exe is called automatically.
Problem is that all of its programs must be started with the same conditions, otherwise sets FF7Config.exe the keys in a different position, as they be read from the FF7.exe afterwards.

I just tried it on a newly installed machine with steam and New Folder\ff7.exe closes promptly after being run.

update: as a workaround, I uninstalled this and used Kranmer's  conversion patch instead
That's too few information!

What OS,what architecture,  UAC on or off, what compatibility modes, have you tried to start ff7config, what tells the ff7_GC.log (etc) ?
