Ugh I hate these games and I hate that I'll buy them anyway if they come to PC.
-
Lightning Returns... wow, how standards have dropped.
-
The first thing I thought of was "Cool, gonna get someone to rip me some models outside the forum because who gives a shit about copyright"
The second thing "Why did I let my brother buy two of those for our PS3"
The third thing "At least that means he can get 13-3 for free and I'll get him to spend those euros on xillia 2 instead"
-
My first thought was "Why the hell isn't Square Enix dead. It should be dead."
-
@Tenko Kuugen +2 likes ("Sorry, you can't repeat a karma action without waiting 24 hours.")
But it's also a way to mod the hell out of the game or use the game's engine for some reason. Like a possible fan made FFVII/VIII remake??? Tell me if something like that would be possible...
-
One more crap game coming to pc, great. Played just the first one and I didn't like it at all.
-
I hate that i will end up buying these terrible games, Just so Square knows that there are PC gamers out there, who would like to play JRPGs..
I suppose i should give it a chance, i only played 3 hours of XIII and shut it off because i would rather do other things haha

Play XIII-2... I also hated the first one. It was a game without character. But I like chono-travel related stories so I played the 2nd one to the max! :)

I'm thinking of the modding potential they have.

I also didn't like the battle mechanics, the game play. Not my style.

EDIT
-
Just because a game exists on PC does not mean it will be easily modable. Skyrim is build from the ground up with the intention of being modable. Several other games, too.
But Final Fantasy? No way in hell mods will even be sanctioned.
-
Sanctioned? Obviously not. But FFXIII is pretty easily moddable on hacked consoles, and I can't imagine it'll be harder. At worst, it'll be about the same, but still without the hacked console requirement.
-
Well, just saw it on Steam. October 9th it's saying for FF13 although it can be 'pre-ordered' for a tenner at the moment.
Edit: It should also be noted that it's not a good sign when a game is visibly lagging in it's own promotional trailer.

It's the same trailer as the PS3/360 version
-
I thought it was the cinematic that plays before New Game shows up but I guess not; the way that video ran made me think it was being vid-captured in-game, like a PC that can't quite get the fps steady. Odd that a trailer would run like that, but maybe it's just Steam.
-
What this is actually true??
Wow, that's surprising. A console exclusive from Square coming to Steam...odd things happening these days...
-
...A console exclusive from Square coming to Steam...odd things happening these days...
Indeed!
New management... Reconfiguring marketing strategies... Let's hope this will lead to some more loose approach to any fanbased material by them as well in the near future.
-
Just looks like the main XIII is on Steam. I guess they'll decide later if it's worth porting the others based on the reaction to this.
I'm still waiting for FFIX...
-
FF9 PC would be great; a smooth frame-rate for battles would sell me on that. But I wonder if they kept the original backgrounds? Another bad upscale job would tarnish it a bit.
-
A PC port of FF9 would open up many more modding possibilities for such a great game. I would love to see FFX/XII on the PC too. And FFVI shouldn't be THAT hard to port, right? They made almost all but those into a PC port (or remake), so why not?
-
Awww... they should have brought FF IX instead .__.
BTW: There won't be that much mods (besides some childish nude-replacers, lol >.>), see f.e. TLR or DE:HR. Both are on PC but there aren't that many mods.
-
FFIX is the only FF to NOT be rereleased and remains the forgotten prodigy.
-
IX is my favorite and I would love a PC version of this game. It could be beautiful. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=551612

Looks like it's time for another FFIX run.
-
Is this serious... *checking* ............
Well, someone noticed the PC gaming marked. Squeeny have been real busy re-releasing for Windows lately. While I personally didn't hate the game, I most definitely is not gonna buy it on steam.
FF9 is needed on steam/pc/mac/whatever. A port with smooth frame-rate and semi-HD graphics would be most welcome.
-
I'm pretty sure part of the reason they're doing this is to determine the viability of newer releases on PC. If you want FFXV or KH3 to come to PC, buying this will make that more likely to happen. Whether owning FFXIII is a worthwhile tradeoff for that cause is up to you.
-
I'm pretty sure part of the reason they're doing this is to determine the viability of newer releases on PC.
This is probably the only reason I'll buy it, but not until it goes on a steam sale or something.
-
I can see FF15 happening on PC if demand for 13 is high enough but KH3 remains very doubtful considering Squeenix isn't the sole say-so on what happens with it
-

o_o *groan* I went ahead and bought it. I've never played it and don't know if I'll regret this or not. Not as cheap as the PS3 though. :( My current laptop will probably not be up to the task of playing it, but I'm probably going to get a new machine soon.

You know as well as I do that the only message that will send to them is that it is okay to produce mediocrity because people will buy it regardless. I think it's sad what's happened to this game series... I remember when a new FF game was a preorder and thrill just waiting for the release day. Now I'm here modding Final Fantasy VII and playing FF VII-X because I find they still haven't been surpassed.

About the first part of the series... just judging by the character developement... I'm sorry to let you down but you will...
...and playing FF VII-X...
looool

We're sending a message that the current direction FF is going is, at least, ok, and will make a profit. I dunno, but I duobt the developers aim for mediocrity when making a new FF. But at the end of the day it's the sales that matters for the shareholders and the higher ups, not the quality. They have the final words, and looking at the sales, they may as well push the developers in a certain direction.
-
An interesting thing happened earlier this year. They noticed that Bravely Default sold better in the West than either Lightning Returns or Final Fantasy XIII-2, for a fraction of the development cost. This has caused them to rethink their strategy (http://www.siliconera.com/2014/03/31/bravely-defaults-success-west-making-square-enix-rethink-jrpgs/) of attempting to appeal to non-Japanese audiences with the cinematic bullshit they think we want.
When a company like EA talks about treating customers right, you know they're full of it because they're making good money even when Consumerist votes them worst company of the year twice in a row. But Square Enix said what they did based on actual numbers, not just a misguided attempt to repair a destroyed reputation, so I'm more apt to believe them. They don't even need to care about customers; they've seen good games bring in money, they are more likely to bring in good games.
So to everyone who bought Bravely Default, thank you for voting with your wallet. Square Enix's reaction to those figures proved it works. In the end, that's why I'm going to buy FFXIII (and as many future Square Enix games as possible) on PC: to vote with my wallet and send a message that I want PC versions of their games.
-
I bought Bravely because it's about the closest thing to an actual FF game we've had since FFX.
Still not finished it, no where near it actually got Project X Zone and Fire Emblem to finish off too, kinda left my 3DS sitting for a while right up until Smash Bros came out the other day.
Nabbed XIII from Green Man Gaming for just under £8, gonna take a peek at what's under the hood if I can.

Probably should link to GMG as you can get it a little cheaper than Steam there, keys go out at some point tomorrow(9th)

What I hate about ff13 is the story and even more the characters and their pointless overacted dialogues but I found the gameplay quite interesting actually. The fact that everyone's class determines the base damage multiplier actually allowed for some cool strategies requiring good timing and planning when to shift without cancelling turns.
For example Long Gui bashing in about 2 mins using Army of One in Cerberus paradigm was quite fun. I farmed the best weapons and crests for my main team and slain Vercingetorix, quite an time consuming effort for someone claiming how strawberries the game is :D
Edit: Seriously guys? Strawberries? :D
-
I'm more concerned with that 49.4 GB size footprint. I get that this game was on a Blu-ray, but that's a huge download.
-

Seriously

If you don't like a 49.4GB install, then you're in luck! The Steam version requires 60GB!
On the plus side, it looks like it runs at 60fps. Not quite the uncapped I was hoping for (I've got a 144Hz monitor), but better than the 30fps I was expecting.
On the strawberries side, I can't tell if this is saying fullscreen has a MINIMUM 1280x720, or literally only runs at that resolution. One of these is fine, the other is awful.
-
49.4GB according to my Steam download.
The size listed in the specs is an estimate, usually to allow for a possible size increase after release due to patches/DLC.

The download is compressed. The required size is size including an average number of saves.

I was watching a stream of it, and as far as the guy can tell the resolution is fixed. There's no in-game option to change it at any rate. Maybe it can be changed in the steam files manually, but if not then I'm sure the first mod will be something along those lines. Maybe.
-
Durante is on the case (http://abload.de/img/dump067_framedump_posr1oua.jpg). For those of you who don't know, he's the guy who fixed the port of Dark Souls. I give it 48 hours tops before this game runs properly at 1080p.
edit: video (http://www.gamersyde.com/thqstream_first_working_run_of_ff13_gedosato_plugin-zqllcqGKENBBKi6p_en.html)
-
1280x720???
-
Alex Kazai is streaming it right now!!! http://www.twitch.tv/alex_kazai
-
And whadd'ya know, Durante's already got a preliminary fix (http://blog.metaclassofnil.com/?p=618) that lets the game run up to 4k. Still some bugs to work out, but definitely not bad for six hours after the game's release. It goes to show how lazy the port is, though, if higher resolutions could be supported this quickly through modding alone.
-
This guy is amazing but higher resolution on my TV screen always seem to be rendered too slowly... I thing that I can live with 1080p atm. I remember trying his mod for DS2. But I prefer using the sweetfx enhancement due to performance reasons mostly.
-
I don't think the series is going to pick up. Some how I missed that this four year old game is 60gb and only plays at 720p. Why the hell is this game so big!? I'm installing Middle Earth Shadows of Mordor now with the 4k HD pack and even that is almost half as big. This will just end up as a one and done game, not likely to keep installed nor redownload for a foreseeable future.
-
It supports both English and Japanese voice acting, so I think that bloats the file size a bit.
-
Both the voice acting (Japanese version is MUCH smaller) and high quality FMVs do a lot for bloat. Frankly I wouldn't be surprised if all the FMVs are in there twice rather than just having multiple language tracks, too.
edit: Also, someone I know and can confirm as a good inside source has said that the main reason the game came to PC was for the sake of that streaming service they announced, and that a Steam version was only done because it was almost no extra effort at that point.
-
The movies and the voices are duplicated, so there's one for English and one for Japanese. They could have just let you download the English one and get the Japanese one as a free DLC, but no...
Deleting the Japanese FMV's would save 19.8 GB.
-
What does the file architecture even look like? Seems like the movies are in a separate folder, but what about the rest? I wonder how much modding would be possible with this game.

I cut out all the CommonRedist stuff because who cares, but the rest of the game's file structure is intact. I haven't looked into the moddability of the various filetypes, but the ".bin" extension doesn't really say much.

I'm still downloading, but I think it's just the ps3 version.
Audio will be replaced easily, since they are just LAME MP3 in a fancy file with an easy format :p Textures are just DDS files as well.
It's just a case of unpack/repack of the white_img files.

Guys, seems like the fps issues are from the hud, there are some screenshots with the minimap enabled and disabled, and the difference its too huge, this would explain the 30 fps drop on battles,
With hud:

Without Hud:

You can disable the minimap atleast, but there isnt any solution for the in-game hud for the moment.

The movies and the voices are duplicated, so there's one for English and one for Japanese. They could have just let you download the English one and get the Japanese one as a free DLC, but no...
Deleting the Japanese FMV's would save 19.8 GB.
Good to know thanks man. That's an easy 20 GB I can free up. Agreed, this really should have been a dlc option.
-
Well, I, should I be getting the game, will use the Japanese voices and videos with English subtitles, since the voices are always better (I mean, look at Type-0, the English voices are beyond awfulness).
-
...the ".bin" extension doesn't really say much.
.bin is possibly the second least descriptive extension (no extension being the least). By nature, all files are binary files and could be titled as such.

True in so many cases, but I think the FF13 series breaks that mold. The English voice acting is pretty good.
-
Well it wasn't too bad I guess. I haven't heard the Jap so can't compare.
-
The Japanese is good too, so you don't lose either way :)
-
Square must be embarrassed by this. They've removed all twitter, facebook and blog posts about it, almost like it doesn't exist.
-
On the dub vs original voices thing
It's more relevant to the KH franchise but FF, especially 12, had some dub-over-original voice acting too
Of course there is usually at least 1-2 voices in either language that annoy the fuck out of you
-
It actually doesn't seem too bad all in all. I'm annoyed the install size is so massive, and nothing for the Japanese videos are labeled so removing them will be difficult, but otherwise it looks pretty good. Granted this is with the downsampling and custom resolution settings with the GeDoSaTo modding tool. People have mentioned issues with the controls but they must mostly be with the pc controls, controllers works just fine. To exit the game you have to go to the main menu and hit esc on the keyboard however, but otherwise I haven't found any issues. The game supposedly runs at 60 fps, but it seems closer to it's original 30 fps from the consoles. It runs smoothly though so I don't really care, and I have a few ideas to boost the frame rate a bit more anyway. This was just a technical test, I skipped all the videos and everything and went straight to the opening fights and ran around the first level a bit. Otherwise I haven't played the game so I cant say much about the dub or anything.
-
Halfway through the game right now. Haven't seen anything gamebreaking and works fine for me out of the box. Used GeDoSaTo for higher resolution because it looks better but it wasn't bad to start with. The download size wasn't a problem for me either, Steam gave a solid 22,5 MB/s, took about 40 minutes.
I did however get a few fps drops at the weirdest moments (i.e. nothing happening, only very little to render), none of my hardware seems to be under any load at that time either, so I think it's a "port thing".
This is on a 4770K with a R9 290 btw.
Also I only play with xbox360 wireless controller on a projector. :P

Turn the mimimap off, instant FPS boost.

The minimap is less than useless in this game anyway. :P
-
Duh, you only walk in a straight line, everything is a corridor.
-
Remember when I said you could delete the Japanese FMVs? You can't, they will automatically re download when you launch the game.
-
Finally got it. There's an unpacker and repacker just been released.
So far from what I've seen:
Audio is now in .OGG format, as opposed to LAME MP3.
Model and animation format has been altered slightly.
Models and textures can be swapped, however they will be deformed due to bone differences
Models from other versions can't be used due to format changes.
There's a file called charaspec.wdb that lists all the character IDs. Managed to get Lebreau loaded over Lightning. With it came all of Lebreau's programming.
-
I found the game slightly better if I turned off the minimap and avoided as many battles as possible. To avoid those battles is a mini-game in itself. Also with Japanese audio, the confusing, non-expositional story is not that remarkable. It just turns into another crazy anime, which I guess it tried to be in the 1st place (kinda).

"That's a mess is what this is" looool :D

So I see modding is already possible. This makes it slightly more likely for me to buy it... when it gets better :P
-
I'm buying the whole trilogy when it comes with a nice package bargain ;)
-
I might buy Type-0 when it comes to PC.
-
Yeah... that too.
-
ı will buy any FF games for PC. I hope FF5-6-9-12-type 0 will come Pc, I hope...
-
I wish they port the GOOD version of IV, not the crappy DS version that kills the game.
-
Is it possible to translate subtitle to another language?
-
ı am using F310, controller working perfectly but no display. When I choose keyboard the controller display; but I when choose gamepad controller no display.

FFXIII's DLC being put back in the game.

That was an easy boss to beat as far as I remember... ;)
