General Discussion / Final Fantasy Recommendation

I personally think FFXI is a whole hell of a lot better then WoW. Theres no drive for me to play WoW again, yet there is for FFXI.

How long has it been legal?

And, according to this, it isnt:
Quote
RPG Maker 95, RPG Maker 2000, RPG Maker 2003, and RPG Maker 2003, if you're using them in any language other than japanese, ARE ILLEGAL, and you are breaking a major copyright law, punishable by a $50,000 dollar fine.

Don Miguel NEVER got permission from enterbrain to translate and distribute RM2K. it is not freeware. Don Miguel was SUED by enterbrain, but they lost due to a legal loophole in don's native country of russia.

RPG Maker 2000/RM2K was too heavily pirated to ever justify a US release. no one would buy it, and they could easily download it for free.

The piracy of RM2K had a major effect on the US RPG Maker market: Enterbrain pulled the plug on RPG Maker (RPG Tsukuru 3)'s release for the PS at first due to the RM2K piracy. Agetec eventually showed them there was enough demand for the game here in the states, and it was released. however, due to the setbacks, it was no longer realistic for agetec to release RPG Tsukuru 4 for the PS1 over here, and thus it was skipped.

RPG 2003/RM2K3 was being localized by enterbrain before it's japanese release. Enterbrain even sent out announcements of this to the RM2K community, along with questionaires asking how much they'd be willing to pay. the answer came to them in the form of an even larger piracy effort for 2K3 when it was released in japan. thus, the localization was stopped, and its unknown just how far it got.

same thing with XP as 2K3. a US version was hinted at on agetec's forum by an agetec employee. this stopped immediately once it was pirated. its likely long dead now.

Enterbrain even has a page on their website begging for the piracy to stop so that the RPG Maker series can pull a profit and live on. if the piracy doesnt end soon, the series will die. what the piraters fail to realize is that the pirated software is also downloaded by the japanese, which destroys japanese sales as well.

Gotta love how everyone assumes RPG Maker is a free program. Damn piraters ruining the chances of a real english version o-o

That sounds great, coming from a tuba/trombone player, i cant imagine trying to mix all the complex parts. Definatly some slightly off key parts (hard to catch), but overall, excellent.

FF7 Tools / FF7w Download (update from FF7win)

Try running old dos games in Windows XP and tell me how many run perfect without an emulator. Most likely, there will be issues. Same deal here, uber PC does not mean compatability.

takes up just about the same space in the database, which is almost nothing :) a few kb

Yea, ive got to get my official CDs from my friend heh. I know that using the Ultima Edition is why the mods usually dont work, and I live with it. Ive still got the box, but bleh, who cares heh, FF7 is FF7 to me, as long as I can play what I payed for :P

Buy a new copy of the game, or hack out the cd protection yourself i would assume

Prohibited by Square, but not necessarily by the law. Doing so would void a warrenty most of the time.

May be out of print, but you can still find it in a lot of stores. FFVII for PC is generally out of print and decently hard to find in a lot of stores, but they still dont let you download it :P

Books and guides are reprinted pretty often, check out some of the markets in China and Taiwan for examples of that.

Some mods may be considered illegal (IE, No-CD cracks that circumvent copyright protection), but most, if not all of them here arent.

General Discussion / New FF7 Game?
« on: 2004-09-16 04:09:36 »
Bah i forget what it said...one sec....bah cant find the exact quote. Something about meeting reeve (as in what vincent is saying). My guess is that it will be a Devil May Cry type of game, not a FPS. Everything they know about the game was listed already:

"A scan from Shounen Jump for the new FFVII game has surfaced. The game has been titled Final Fantasy VII: Dirge Of Cerberus and features Vincent as the main character. It should be noted that Midgar is shown in ruins, indicating that the game will be a sequel, rather than a prequel. The story of Dirge of Cerberus takes place 1 year after Advent Children. Vincent, while in a town that was supposed to be peaceful now, is attacked by a mysterious group called "DC" (possibly Dirge of Cerberus). He also mentions a place where he will be meeting Reeve. Dirge of Cerberus is scheduled for a 2005 release on the PS2, though its genre has not been confirmed. Some new screens from AC are also in the scan, though they may contain minor spoilers. "
