Troubleshooting / Re: Music Stopped Working
« on: 2013-03-24 05:29:23 »
Still no luck.

When configuring the input and output in FF7Music I have these options:

For inputs, I can choose - in_mad, in_psf, and in_vgmstream

For outputs, I can choose - out_ds and out_wave

I tried every combination of these but nothing works. Sound effects are still good, but no music. Unless there isn't any music in the 'Gym' floor of the Shinra building, but I seem to remember there is music there.

Are there any other suggestions? Thanks again,

Shaun

Thank you for the response.

Right now I've got:

Input: in_vgmstream.dll
Output: out_wave.dll

I'll give the combo you mentioned a shot and see if that helps.

Troubleshooting / Music Stopped Working
« on: 2013-03-23 23:33:49 »
Hey Folks,

Couldn't find much on this exact issue, except for this thread:

http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=13991.msg196287#msg196287

I'm having this same issue. I used Bootloader 0039. Game plays perfectly. I saved at the 'Gym' in the Shinra building a few days ago, and when I play now, I have no music (sound fx are still working).  Again, everything worked perfectly until this point.

I run the game using FF7 Bootloader. The Music plugin box is checked, and the path is:  /plugins/ff7music.fgp

I noticed in that same plugins folder there is also a ff7music.fgb. This did not work either.

I tried starting a new game as well, and the music works during the opening FMV, but then it stops.  Any help is greatly appreciated!

Haven't read through the entire thread, but in case no one has mentioned this, the GUI v2.0.8 is unaccessable (at least to me). When I follow the link to download, I get a page that says:

"Sorry, this file is infected with a virus.

Only the owner is allowed to download infected files."

i can play fine with out MO

Same here.

For DLPB - I can certainly understand not wanting to work out everyone's issues, but you more or less told me the exact same thing a few days ago.

I installed only the 1.02 patch and Aali's driver. I can play the game fine. Then I install MO, and my game crashes. I uninstall MO, and my game plays just fine again.

How exactly is that NOT caused by MO? Lol. Not trying to 'sound' like an arse ya know?

Gordon's issue could be something completely different than mine, but it sounds like we both can play FF7 without MO, and we cannot play it with MO. Your mod kicks ass dude, we all want to use it :-) There is just something occurring with the install that is preventing the game from working properly.

Releases / Re: [REL] Menu Overhaul Project
« on: 2012-11-09 09:30:39 »
I wanted to add an update with a few more steps I've taken to narrow things down:

* Did a full re-install of FF7 (1998)
* Completely removed the directory it was in (C:\FF7) prior to installation
* Installed the 1.02 patch and Aali's driver only. Game played fine (looked like arse)
* Turned of Security Essentials and disabled Windows Firewall
* Ran MO.exe as Administrator (also logged into an Admin account)
* Chose to install ONLY the retranslation (no menu changes, no graphical changes, etc)
* Game still crashes in the exact same fashion.
* Re-running MO.exe and uninstalling the mod causes the game to run normally.

So I thought it was an issue with loading the .png files that go in the mod/dk/menu directory, but I'm guessing the actual issue is the modification that MO.exe makes to FF7.exe. I don't know (in my extremely limited knowledge) what else it could be. I'm going to try this same process with the 2012 release (adding only the conversion patch to the aforementioned list of mods) and see if that works.

Greetings,

I'm trying to get an assist with this amazing mod :-) I've used it in the past on an old machine that is now long gone, had the urge to play through this game again, but I'm having some issues getting the game to run with the mod installed.

I started with bootloader 0039. Did the whole process, and each time I would run my game, I would get the Eidos logo, then the Square/Chocobo logo, and the opening credits. However, pressing ANY button would cause my game to crash. I repeatedly received an error:

Oops! Something very bad happened
Wrote crash.dmp to FF7 install dir.
Please provide a copy of it along with APP.LOG when reporting this error.
White emergency save to save/crash.ff7?

FF7.exe would also crash, end of story. I did numerous re-installations of the game and bootloader, but every time it kept doing this.

So I decided to start with a fresh install of the game, and start adding mods 1 by 1, testing for playability in between each mod. I installed the game (2012 re-release), used Kranmer's conversion mod, followed by the 1.02 patch, Aali's driver, FF7 Music, FMV restoration. Okay, up until this point, I'm good. Next I did the menu overhaul (don't recall exactly which options I chose) but this now caused my game to crash with the exact same error as before. I ran the mod again, chose to uninstall, and the game ran fine again.

Worth note, is that when I couldn't get this mod to work, I tried Team Avalanches mod. This, too, causes my game to crash. It seems to be something about loading anything from the Mods/DK/Menu folder. If there are any mods to the menu, the game just won't play. With the Team Avalanche mod, I could get the game to load, but if I opened up the menu in-game OR after any battle (at the EXP and Gil screen) the game would crash.

Another item is that my "Security Essentials" picks up a file each time I load the game and quarantines it. To be sure it was safe, I looked at the file in question and it is called:  HackTool:Win32/Keygen. Scary lol.

Anyways, after numerous failed attempts, I thought maybe there just wasn't compatibility with the re-release, so I tried the 1998 version of the game, went through the exact same process, and again, the menu overhaul crashed the game. I know the mod works, I've used it before, and since it has caused 2 different releases of the game to crash, I'm thinking it may be something with my system?

Windows 7 Pro x64 / NVIDIA video card / Intel CPU

In any case, I want to say thank you for even bothering to create this mod. It really is amazing  :)

Any and all information is greatly appreciated!

Shaun

PIT,

I have an Intel CPU, not an Intel video card. I'm using an NVIDIA card.

I realize that the newer bootleg is on it's way, but just in case this is an issue post 0040 release, and others are having the same issue, just wanna keep this out there.

If anyone is following, I've narrowed the issue down to the Menu Overhaul mod. I started with a fresh install on the 1998 FF7, installed the 1.02 patch, Aali's driver, FF7 Music, FMV Restoration, FacePalmer textures (testing playability after each mod install). All was fine up to this point. Next was the Menu Overhaul. I don't recall exactly which options I chose, but this caused the same crash and error I had been receiving.  After running the Menu Overhaul app again and choosing to Uninstall, I ran the game just fine. Reinstalled it, and it crashed.

So there is something that does not work with Menu Overhaul project and my particular system (which sucks because I'm playing at 1080p and the smoothness of the fonts and everything are gorgeous. Again, I have Windows 7 Pro x64, and NVIDIA graphics card and an Intel CPU, both version of FF7 PC (1998 and 2012) are crashing in the exact same way, with the exact same error.

EQ, thank you, and yes I can see how that would be the case. I'll stand by until 0040 is released, see if I have any luck with it. Thank you,

Shaun

Is anyone still following this thread?  8)

Still not having any luck. I've uninstalled/reinstalled probably half a dozen times now. Each time I run the BFE I get a few alerts through Security Essentials, and a few notepad files popup with errors, not sure if either of those are relevant. I understand the security alerts are safe and should be ignored.

Also, I tried using the old PC version of FF7 as well. Installed it, ran BFE, and I'm getting the exact same error and result. The game will open, but if I press any button it crashes and gives the "Oops.." message.  Both versions of the game (Original and 2012 release) run fine until I install the mods, so it's got to be something in there that is causing a conflict. I've got a Windows machine, 7 Pro x64, NVIDIA card and Intel CPU, if any of that makes a difference.

If anyone is reading this thread still any input would be greatly appreciated!

Hello Everyone,

I think this is my first post here...known about the Qhimm forums forever, just cant remember if I've ever posted lol. Anyways, I've finally gotten through this entire thread looking for a specific answer but haven't found it.

I've got the 2012 release of the game, used the Kranmer mod to convert it, and installed the entire bootleg 0039. I initially had some issues getting the game to start, and after trying numerous options that I found here, I just did a full reinstall.

Now, I can get the game to start, but as soon as I press ANY button, the game crashes.  The error message is:

Oops! Something very bad happened.
Wrote crash.dump to FF7 install dir.
Please provide a copy of it along with APP.LOG when reporting this error.
Write emergency save to save/crash.ff7?

Here is my APP.LOG:

I feel like an idiot..not sure how to attach a file (crash.dump). Anyways, hoping someone can shed some light on why I'm crashing. Last but certainly not least, thanks to Pit and everyone else for putting this all together...there are people who make a ton of money to do what you guys are doing, presumably for free. Thanks again,

Shaun

For anyone who has interest - it turned out to be something with Remix. After deleting the game/mods, reinstalling the game and then doing the mods/patches one at a time, I can now play like normal. The Remix is a great idea, putting all those things together in one easy package, but I guess it's a bit buggy.

Troubleshooting / Strange "bug" with Remix 2.5.1
« on: 2011-07-13 23:29:31 »
I think I may have discovered a bug that hasn't been reported (or at least, I can't find it anywhere). So you know as much info as possible:

Windows 7 Pro x64
Regular version of FF7 PC (NON Ultima)
Remix 2.5.1 Installed

Just a quick background:I played through this game with just the 1.02 patch, Aali's driver, and Ficedula patches, got up to the point where I was going to fight both Ruby and Emerald, then finish the game, and I found the Remix 2.5.1 installer, and decided to try it with a new game. At the first save point, I went a bit too fast and saved OVER my other file, so I had to go through the entire game again (which isnt necessarily a bad thing right?)

Anyways, the first bug I found was that as soon as I had access to the Materia command in the Menu, I went in to equip some and discovered that I already had Enemy Lure and Enemy Away materias. Very strange. Then (and this is the big problem), I'm noticing that sometimes my characters are unable to deal any damage to enemies. The first time it happened was when I was fighting the Turks in the Gongaga (sp?) reactor. Barret had the Atomic Scissors equipped, and no matter what enemies I fought, he always did 0 damage. I tried messing around with his materia to no avail. The only way I could get him to deal damage was by giving him a different (and weaker) weapon. Not long after that, the same thing happened to Red XIII, so I then had 2 characters who could not deal any damage whatsoever.

Fast forward, and I am now at the part where Sephiroth kills Aeris. When he leaves, and the fight with Jenova starts, all 3 of my characters do a maximum of 3 damage per attack. Clouds ClimbHazard limit only does 10 damage. Summons and magic work fine, it just seems to be the physical attacks. I started thinking the glitch was due to installing the Remix 2.5.1 mod OVER the other mods I already had installed, so I uninstalled the game and all mods, reinstalled the game (kept my save folder of course), loaded it back up, and it is still doing it. I even tried using different weapons on all my characters (cloud, yuffie, cid) and no weapons will do any more than 3 damage.

Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way I can fix it? Thanks for reading.

Shaun
