General Discussion / Modding advice/experiences
« on: 2012-06-19 08:56:25 »
I've been doing a lot of thinking, and to be honest, the thought of me, myself, making a mod as awesome as APZ or any of the other great modders out there sounds exciting and definitely gets me pumped to learn more. I've never built a mod before (other than an ogg loop music pack for PSO) and obviously skill like that comes with time, trial, and error. So I decided to make a thread for you guys, not only to thank you for all your contribution and inspiration, but id like to know, what kind of Tips, tricks, and advice you may personally have for a newcomer like myself.

Lol yea running it on Vista is rough, I'm currently running Vista 32 bit, I've head a LOT of issues that took me a few days to figure out what was wrong. I figured out everything that went wrong, a lot of it was issues with something being here when its not supposed to be, or something being there but renamed something else for no reason. But it works.... thank god lol

Happy you were finally able to get everything up and working though! and yea, watching Fully modded videos while you're game is still a work in progress is almost torture lol

Anyway I've been thinking of upgrading to 7 myself. (I'll actually be building a computer from scratch and will be buying Windows 7 for the OS). Is it all pretty straight forward? Just download and run and all that?  Or did you hit any kind of speed bumps along the way?

lol Agreed. Had Crisis Core completely left out Angeal and Genesis, I wouldn't complain at all. They changed too much to the story, had it just been some kind of Ex-shinra scientist who helped Hojo or something like that and adding depth and hints to Sephiroth's origins, the game would probably be perfect. But thats just my opinion.

General Discussion / Re: GMO File

Oh so they're PSP rips? Thought the small screenshots looked too good lol. Thank you for explaining it, I understand the rules on ripped models being illegal to distribute so I wont hold anything against you or anyone in the forum, and were i to find/use ripped models, it would be for personal use ONLY. Thank you for all the help, if I need any specific models I'll let you know! I'll do a bit more research first, thanks again!

General Discussion / GMO File
« on: 2012-06-15 03:16:06 »
While searching google for some models to import for my LGP, I managed to find a couple Models in .GMO format. I've tried multiple ways to try and find a way to edit it so that I can split it and input it as another LGP. I've tried Kimera (won't open file), and a few model viewers, but nothing that lets me save as a P file or any other type. I'm at a loss, I'm completely stupid when it comes to this modeling stuff, and only know how to work with what you guys have generously offered thus far.

A few of the models I found are in the Video below, if you happen to have the models already converted it would  be greatly appreciated.

If you have no way of importing or offering any of the files needed, would it at least be possible to point out a source for the background and shinra soldier models? I'm sorry for asking for so much at once, it's just hard to find things in the forum that aren't either from 2006 and outdated, or current and link to megaupload which has been shut down. Any help would be wonderful!

1.)What Operating system are you currently using?
2.)What kind of graphics card are you running on?
3.)When you say it's all on your desktop do you mean even your main squaresoft folder?

*1)Windows 98-7 all have different effects on the game, most issues are known to happen with Vista and 7, but are all fixable (even if it is a pain to do so)

*2)It doesn't require a monster to run the game at full capacity, but as Pitbrat stated, some mods have issues with Intel GPU.

*3)If the game was not installed to "C:/Program Files" then that may be the cause of the crash. some mods will try to access data to a folder that is not there (unless adjusted to correct location).

As for the APP.log location, it should be in your main Final Fantasy VII folder.

Though I have to agree that the majority of "Cloud's" after FFVII are emo, not all of them are. Crisis Core Cloud was pretty on par with his attitude in FFVII. He was happy a lot of the time, showed sadness when talking about not making it to SOLDIER and after arriving in Nibelheim (for the same reason). Square still remembers how to make Cloud a decent likable character and still stay true to the original, whether or not they actually DO stay true to it though may be another story entirely. It's a gamble, but worst-case-scenario if the DO remake VII and DO make him emo and annoyingly depressing, we still have the original, and nobody can take that from us.

Anyway, as for the discussion on translations and the project itself, I have to agree with DLPB. People complain about "correcting" the text saying the original was better, but I think they forget, the original was the JAPANESE title before it even hit the English language. If you are a true fan to the game, you would keep an open mind to the idea of the project, not completely pushing it away before you even touch it. Granted if you still like the original more, that's your opinion and you have a right to it. However, keeping a closed mind away from the idea entirely JUST because of nostalgia is an ignorant thing to do. Change isn't always a bad thing, if nothing ever changed, and everyone was against it, this forum wouldn't be here to begin with.

General Discussion / FFVII Menu Sounds
« on: 2012-06-14 07:30:34 »
Hey all, I hate to be the new guy (even though I've lurked for a couple years) opening a topic here, but I'm at wits end with this so I figured you guys would be able to help me out. I've been looking around for the Menu sounds for FFVII (as the topic implies) and I've looked everywhere. I'm working on a side project that they would be perfect for, but everywhere I look, is a dead end, and the places that do post an upload of the sounds, are on Megaupload.... enough said lol.

Anywho it would be much appreciated if anyone would be kind enough yo upload them onto, say rapid share or some other site.  ;)

I'm a huge fan of your previous Cloud Battle Model, which I unfortunately lost when my little brother got me a virus and I had to re-format... If this new one is really as awesome as you say it is then you sir, are even more awesome than I thought so before! I'm definitely looking forward to it's release! Cheers to the champ once again!  :-D
