i dont know i'm just a fan and a happy one for all of this i personally dont use the high res patch i wont use it untill all the exploits and bugs are fixed

you'll be waiting a long time then, but it's your choice.

I think I may have found another issue with maybe the high-res patch. Here's my system setup:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+
1.5GB RAM
ATI Radeon x1900 512MB (PCIE)
Augidy 2 ZS

The issue? While going through the whirlwind maze, there are several points where you have to walk past points while the winds are calm, otherwise you get knocked back and must fight some minor enemy. However, it doesn't visually seem as if the winds die down at all. After fighting, the winds may appear to die down or speed back up, but they never match with the actual appearance on screen. In fact, the apperance never changes (i.e. highwind stays highwind, lowwind stays lowwind).

If you're lucky enough, you might be able to walk past the winds by walking into the wind at the right time, but there's no indicator of when that might be.

I'm going to test this with the normal 1.02 exectable and report my results.

--------------

UPDATE:

Looks like this is NOT an issue unique to the patch. It happens with the 1.02 nvidia patch as well. The only time the wind dies and rises properly is if when you run the game in software mode. Ideas on how to resolve this?

maybe it's the type and amount of lighting? I'm guessing the amount of diffuse and ambient lighting is different (which has no direction, just a scalar amount).

This is just what I've learned in class about graphics; me thinks at this point the graphics weren't powerful enough to consider specular and emmisive lighting at this point.

I'm not sure how d3d implements its tho; all of my experience is in ogl.

Heh, you all suck. The first time I ever beat the game, my satisfaction of was stolen....I never even got to see Super Nova...that really sucks.

Oh, how come you say? Well, when I beat Bizzaro Sephiroth the first time around, I just happened to level up (I can think up no other explanation) so that Cloud's max and current HP were 7777.

Yep. I sixty-foured Sephiroth at 7777 a pop, the first time I beat the game What a waste...

Don't know the version number. All I know is that they are out there. Here's the link where I found out about it (found it via the ATI website):

Anyone have actual results?

Archive / FF7 and FF8 Anti-aliasing Radeon 9700 Pro
« on: 2003-02-21 20:14:05 »
I heard that ATI recently released new drivers that anti-alias 16-bit 3D games, like FF7 and FF8. Does anyone have a Radeon 9700 Pro and the games to try out and see how it looks? If so, what are your results?

I'm inside the downed Shinra Gelnika and I've heard that I can get the Enemy Skill Aqualung from Serpents there. However, all he does is Viper Breath and I can't seem get a Mastered Manipulate materia to let me control him. Any ideas on how I can do it?

Oops, forgot to mention that the game is Final Fantasy 7! ^^;

General Discussion / FF10 for PC...or not?
« on: 2003-01-10 19:53:00 »
I had been surfing and found this article that quotes Square at E3 2001.

(edited to include the link, oops ^^;)

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/094/094861p1.html

Does this mean SquareSoft is going to eventually release FF 10 for the PC? I sent an e-mail to IGN but I doubt they will respond.

Opinions? Wishes? Proof? Follow it up here.

Archive / re: FF7 Controller Problem
« on: 2003-01-10 08:21:09 »
I had this issue before in xp, it is one of three things:

1) usb controlller is not being detected
Try unplugging and replugging the gamepad. Listen for the "good connection" sound. If you get that sound, the gamepad should work. Try testing the controller in Start->Control Panel->Game Controllers to make sure it works. Try other games as well. Also, be sure the plug in your usb controller before you start FF7 or any game. To be sure no other usb controllers are confilcting, make sure you're using only one usb gamepad or joystick.

2) controls not configured properly
Go to Config in FF7 and remap your controller's buttons to the game options. Switching to different controllers may leave the old mapping in place.

3) win98/95 compatiblity mode
win98 and win95 compatibility mode disables usb controllers from interfacing with most games. Make sure FF7 has no compatiblity mode active before starting the game.

I've used the GamePad Pro myself and don't get me wrong, it's a great controller. What got the goat for me tho was that the D-pad keep sticking to one side of its "well" so to speak. Console pads usually don't have that issue. But then, I was not using the USB version (the basic controller design looks to be the same on the white game port version I was using).

Oh heck, anyone knows that anything in black looks kewl tho. Or was the USB version purple? I don't remember anymore...

Get a converter for USB and whatever console pad you wish to use. AFAIK, there isn't one for DC or GC gamepads, but you can find them for your PSX, Xbox, and N64 pads.

I assume you're referring to FF8, since there is no GeForce patch for FF7 (FF7 has a TNT-patch, FF8 a GeForce patch).

If you're game isn't running, there could be a variety of reasons. This is what you should do.

1. Click on Start and then on Run.
2. Type in "dxdiag" and hit enter. It will bring up the DirectX Diagnostic window.
3. There is a button marked "Save All Information..." Click on it.
4. Save the file on your desktop.
5. Close the DirectX Diagnostic Window.
6. Open up the file you saved on your desktop by double clicking on it.
7. Copy in information in the text file and post it up on the board.

That should be enough for us to start off with.

Archive / I've got a problem with Nvidia patch
« on: 2002-10-22 05:15:02 »
Ah, yes I had this exact same issue with my GeForce3 and it seemed to mysteriously disppaear when I put in my Radeon 9700.

First, check your video drivers; updating them may just resolve the issue.

Try unclicking the box for Nvidia in the config screen.

When I had this issue, I was running FF7 in XP under Win98 compatibility mode. What I'd recommend doing is right clicking your shortcut to start FF7, and go to Properties. Click on the "Compatibility" tab. Make sure that the checkbox for "Run this program in compatibility..."  is _not_ checked.

If you still get slow response, check to make sure all your drives (hard drives and CD-ROM drives) are using some sort of DMA mode. To check it, right click My Computer, go to Properties, click on Device Manager under the Hardware tab, click the "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers, then double-click Primary IDE channel. Check under the "Advanced Settings" tab. If you see PIO mode, you will get slow performance. Check under Secondary IDE channel as well and look for the same thing. To correct this, contact your hard drive or CD-ROM drive's manufacturer for help on enabling DMA mode.

Lastly, make sure your motherboard's latest drivers are installed. This make cause some graphic loading issues if your AGP drivers are not properly installed.

As a final resort, you might just have to play the game in software rendering mode.

Archive / FF7 anti-aliasing results with Radeon 9700
« on: 2002-10-22 04:59:32 »
To all:

First off, the XP patch that I was referring to is the XP chocobo race patch. This is the oddly huge AnimeVamp 9.x MB patcher that was linked from another article somewhere on the forums. I haven't had issues racing chocobos with it, so I assume it is one and the same with the XP chocobo race patch.

To DigiToast:

First off, do not use the any XP patch for any game running on Win9x. You'll just run into trouble. Experiment at your own risk.

Second, you mentioned you had ATI drivers, so I'll assume you have an ATI card. But which one? For general ATI cards I can only recommend the following.

If you can't get it running in Win98SE, I recommend you _uncheck_ the Nvidia check box and try running the game. You might still get a crash, but do it for testing purposes (after all, the patch was made with Nvidia cars in mind, not ATIs). Also make sure advanced options for your Radeon like FSAA and anisotropic filtering are turned off. For the latest drivers, just slide the Direct3D settings to Balanced. This may not work since I have not tested the game under Win9x.

If that still doesn't work, try software mode as a last resort. If that fails, you've got bigger issues to worry about my friend.

Well, what is your issue? AFAIK, I haven't encountered any serious issues like loading time or graphical issues going in or out of the world map since I am using the Nvidia patch FF7 that has patched XP support. And the recent issue with freezing when summon Kujata seems to have disappeared as well with the driver update. ^_^

I don't know much about laptop chipsets, but I recommend updating to the latest drivers if it is a Radeon that you have. I get them from Guru3D.com

Look for this version number: 6.13.10.6193 if using WindowsXP.

Note: I have not tested compatibility under Windows9x.

Archive / Reason for no AA on Radeon 9700
« on: 2002-10-14 08:33:31 »
Turns out the current ATI drivers do not support FSAA for 16-bit games, which includes FF7 AND FF8. It may be enabled in future driver release; I've also e-mailed ATI driver feedback about the Kujata freeze-up thing, so if we're lucky, we might see that issue as well.

FF7 settings

Nvidia patch applied, under Windows XP, using XP patch.

(ATI Radeon 9700)
driver
ver:  6.13.10.6166
date: 8/15/2002

Results (XP's compatiblity mode not enabled)
Game runs fine at driver's default settings.

Game runs fine in 3D modes with "highest quality" enabled, but anti-aliasing does not occur (in spite of "Application Preference" being unchecked). Backgrounds also display the usual rectangular "tiles."

FMVs totally unaffected.

Please append your results with the ATI Radeon 9700 here.

Archive / No virus present!

I just received the latest pattern file from Trend Micro this morning and it looks like this is virus free! (I knew it for sure, all this time! <g>)

We are returning you to your regularly scheduled gaming!

BTW, has anyone been able to get good quality graphics (anti-aliased) with the latest Detanator 40 drivers on a GeForce3 (non-Ti)? I keep getting some garbled up stuff. I can get it to look like it did originally packaged, but FSAA just looks so neat!

Archive / Update on possible virus
« on: 2002-09-05 21:12:33 »
I still haven't been able to send the file to Trend Micro (due to limitations on my e-mail attachments passing through my ISPs server), but I realized I haven't mentioned that the virus it is possibly infected with is TROJ_UNREAL.A

I'm really suspicious about this since the trojan was made for Unreal and not a FF game (hence the name). I'm suspecting it is similar to what happened with Bleem many months ago (main exe was detected as a virus, although it was also clean.)

Anyhow, I suggest that those of you who got clean reads on your AV software submit it to your AV's manufacturer's labs for analysis. Better safe than sorry.

I will be submitting it to Trend Micro for analysis. Here's hoping I get some kind of response. Hopefully, it'll just happen to detect something that looks like a virus, but isn't (sorta like what happened with Bleem).

OK, but I don't actually have the SB!Live patch. Where do I download it from; that's why I asked about it not being in the FAQ.

How does it work for you Radeon owners? I've been thinking of getting the Radeon 9700 when it comes out so I want to know what experiences you ATi guys have been getting. Even more to the point, how well it does when you apply anti-aliasing and anisotropic filtering?

FSAA and anisotropic filitering make any game worth gaggling over ^_^

As long as it doesn't get screwed over in the process...

Anyhow, let me know, onegai!

Here's contact information for the Australia offices. I don't know 'em, except that I pulled it off their public website and they're policies may differ (but I hear Australians are a little more easy going then the Americans on this side of the Pacific.)
