why does it matter if i type in sentences or not lol???????????????????
now your probably gonna say something like "cause thats what inteligent people do".........anyways.. i was looking at my installed progs and i see that there is Final Fantasy VII(500 something mb) and Final Fantasy VII:Ultima Edition(1. something gigs) maybe i can uninstall the ultima edition without the game erroring

The retail version requires you have the discs, or disc images, which means you still need the discs in the first place to make images from.

Seriously, though, this is getting further and further away from the point of making a new thread for the new, split thread.

Archive / A complex, but fun, idea.
« on: 2006-02-01 20:39:30 »
I was just thinking about ways to change around the FFVII experience and game dynamic, and I was wondering how hard it would be to rework the materia system.  So that instead of, say, two linked materia, you could have three, or binding elements and effect materia to armor/weapons would have more noticeable effects.

Personally, I think that there's a lot more potential for growth in the materia system than the game capitalized on--imagine a double-elemental attack, or materia that gives higher defense as the user gets weaker, or better weapon-doubling (no shields), or just holding two shields (that wasn't possible in VII, was it?)    You could have materia effects that were dependant on what materia teammates were holding, or you could change the elemental holding of a summon.  You could set a shield to perform an enemy skill when the shield blocks an attack, or who-knows-what -else...even make a character incapable of attacking, and only counterattacking when attacked.

I know this is probably complicated stuff, but I thought I'd throw the idea out there.  It's started things before...

To be fair, I've lost my fair share of game discs in the past.  I've learned to make lots of backup copies, and use virtual drives.

thanks oh by the way im running it on the ultima edtion and it has the xp patch for nvidia.

"CRC32 check failed!
nothing patched!
...done!"

thats what it looks like in the window

Ultima Edition = Evil.  And incompatible with this.  So start from a clean install.  You have the disks around, right pirate_x?  (The only acceptable answer in these parts to that question is yes, by the way.)

Probably not, people around here take offense instead of ignoring annoying people.  I doubt he'll finish the work, being banned.

Do we know what is actually causing the crashes after the battle swirl?

Yes, it's a retail copy, and the discs are scratch and smudge free.  Several years ago I had FF7 installed and working with Windows ME, but the game crashed with ME at a certain point that was apparently unfixable.

I've tried the full install no less than three times, every time it gets to 64% and says installation successful.  But what really gets me is the varying depth I can proceed--which is seemingly randomly--within the game before getting booted back to the desktop.  About 60% of the time the screen goes black then returns to the desktop, about 20% of the time it makes it through the 'Eidos' logo, and the other 20% of the time I can get to the squaresoft logo.  Once, I made it to the screen after that where the credits roll only to push a key and wind up back at the desktop.

Any ideas?

Well, I'd say you need to look at replacing video codecs on your machine.  This sounds like that kind of problem, although I'm sure there are other factors that could be causing it.  There's lots of posts on here about that.  If codecs don't fix it, you could try bypassing the videos altogether, too...there's a bunch of threads on that here too, I believe.  You'll have to search forthem.

I have a editor named FF7Che and i would like to know if you can modify it like Jenova for the HP/MP highter than 9999 ?
Who wrote that editor?

dziugo

About ff7che:  copyright 1998 CH Khor.

I'd put the email here, but it'd probably get harvested by a bot.

Aso, dziugo, you used the version of Jenova that can't edit stats.  You should probably use the fixed version that was recently posted on this site and edit that one.  Of course, that's up to you, it just means using two copies of the tool to do both things for us, which really isn't a big deal.

Okay, firsts first.  This is a retail copy, right?

Assuming that it is, this sounds like a CD problem.  If the problem is installing, and apparently not actually playing the game, your first culprit is the physical media.

Now, if it isn't that, you're looking at a problem with the video files.  (Disc 2 is the first actual game disk, so that's why disc 1 isn't doing anything.  1 is only an installer.)  Have you investigated the video codecs on your machine?

Some one else who knows more about video problems will have to go from there, since I haven't had that problem personally.

If it's a problem with the disks, though, your best bet is getting a new copy of the game.  Or, you could try creating ISO's of the game and re-burning them onto non-scratched disks...that might make the install process actually work.

Okay.  I got Visual Studio 2005 Express, and I'm only missing afxwin.h.  I don't suppose anyone has a copy they'd let me borrow temporarily?

Well, all the stuff it can't find (the first error messages) is afxwin.h, afxext.h, afxdtctl.h, and afxcmn.h, which are all part of the MFC library.  Apart from getting MVS 6.0, I don't know how to get all the .h files.

Okay.  So is it possible that the source folder for Jenova is incomplete?  Because I'm loading everything in the folder into the project, and I'm still coming up with those errors.

I guess I'll try a re-download...

Edit:  Looks like I need MS visual basic 6.0.  Ah well.  We'll see how that works out.

Well, the problem I'm having now is, the compiler's bugging out with over 500 messages during compiling.  As in, "BYTE does not name a type," "USHORT does not name a type," "TEXT was not declared in this scope,"  and a very few "afxwin.h: No such file or directory".

Since I fooled around with exactly none of all that, obviously I'm doing something wrong.  Are there any likely causes for this?

I have made a few simple changes that aren't going to change anything about the way the thing compiles.  What is the easiest way for me to go from the source folder that is downloaded back to the .exe?  I didn't actually change any of the code, just some of the editing parameters.

Also:  I'm using Dev-C++ at the moment...I know very little about programming languages, but I figured this must be what the files are coded in since it's plastered all over the text.

Okay, when one edits the code of say, Jenova, from source, what do we use to rewrap into the .exe?

Troubleshooting / crashing :(
« on: 2005-12-07 01:17:09 »
The 9999breaker is basically completely untested, and the tranparency edit (though I can't see it causing a crash) has been around only slightly longer.

The problem is likely an older patch and a newer one not getting along, although that's completely conjecture as I can't try your save from where I am now.

Of course, there's the chance it's not a patch at all, but just one of those FMV crashes that seem to appear without specific reason.  Have you tried the fixes around here for FMV crashes?

Gameplay / BETA - 9999 Limit Breaking support thread
« on: 2005-12-05 20:44:47 »
A question:

What place of order in the current generation of enhancements should this patch be applied in?  For instance, does Saint's work or do the model replacements mess with the patch's viability?  I know that Saint's changes the .exe a bit.

If nobody knows, I'll make a few .exe backups and experiment.  But I was curious if anyone had tried it yet.

Looks pretty cool. Can you go over the 999 mp limit (not that yoiu need it)? lol
Even above 9999.

BTW: the patch is coming :). It just needs some tests.

The power of all that is good compels you to release the patch!  (shakes mountain-priest prayer beads)

Seriously though, I can't thank you enough for just taking my suggestion like this.  It's like a dream come true.

Check it first :P. It requires only a hex editor (IMHO the easier way) and few seconds of work. Go to offset 002EA422 and write 90 90 90 90 90 90 (6*0x90) in there.

Making me do work!  You should be ashamed!  :)

Yeah, I was basically thinking about just changing dialog boxes and the HUD box during battles, since those are always around in the game.

Another little idea I've always had...how hard would it be to have the option to make dialog/console boxes in-game to be transparent?  Some menus in the game are transparent in a few places (the materia explanations menu comes to mind) but we can't set the most common thing in the game--those huge klutzy dialog boxes--to be transparent!  (Not as in nonexistant, just semitransparent, like a few set menus in the game are.)

Does anyone know what it would take to give us that option?  Since we can change the dialog box color in-game already, and some menus are already transparent, it seems like it would just be using what controls the already transparent ones and enabling it in the standard dialog ones.

I ask because with as much work as you guys have put in the graphics, it's a shame to have those antique boxes coming up and covering them up!  Really, it's one of the last bad-looking things in the game.

Only one problem i see with an "updated engine": ff7 is still profitable, and if squeenix decideds to embark on a remake (small, slight pssibility, and it would be well in the future), they may see such a modification as a direct compettiion to thier upcoming project.

And yet nothing that's been done so far is competition?

Speculation has its place.
