Why so many people never read the rules?

Works fine with me!  It seems that EXP and AP multiplier is a bit off, it sets too high values in game.

I would go with aalis's custom driver, worked perfect for me..

Aali's custom driver is so easy to use too, but if i set resolution too high, game slows down a bit. I need a new computer =)

Happy gaming!

I wish i could go back in time and change all the mistakes i have ever made.

You're welcome. I don't know does the kernel.bin have checksums, propably not, because I've been messing around with it for so long and it still works :-D. I just think it has unique headers , and thats why we need ff7dec. But if you are going to mod some more and like to change scene.bin(where the enemy data is stored), then you need a program that will update things in the kernel.bin. I recommend to download hojo for that http://www.ffheaven.fr/projects/Hojo 1.0.zip , you don't need to uncompress scene.bin yourself and it updates the kernel.bin too :-)

Well, i hope you remembered to back up, because those bin files are not going to work. What you need to do now is to restore your backup-files(i hope you have edited backups of kernel.bin5 and 6 too, or you have do the whole thing again). Explanation is simple, if you already have a kernel.bin in the same folder where you are trying to compress the kernel.bin thats a crash. So, remove the kernel.bin in your directory before compressing. This happened to me once too and i had exactly same problems(and i didn't backup those files i edited, so i had to do the whole thing again  :-D)

http://spinningcone.com/ff/stormmedia/projects/ff7_gzip.zip download this program, it allows you to decompress and compress kernel.bin. when decompressed, open the file you want to edit with hex-editor...and remember file count starts at 0(at qhimm wiki it starts with 1) so if you want to edit weapons the file you need to edit would be kernel.bin5 . Happy editing  :-) more info can be found here http://forums.qhimm.com/index.php?topic=6621.0   offtopic: gjoerulv, you have done amazing job with the new monsters, i hope to see more things like that in the future...

Edit: oh, and remember to backup your original files  :-D

Troubleshooting / Re: FF7 Installation Problems
« on: 2007-11-09 05:23:12 »
i might have an idea. I had a similar problem with many other installers and it was caused by a process that got something to do with my WLAN, when i terminated this process, installing worked again...so you should close all unneeded processes and see if that helps, it worked for me :)

Archive / Re: kernel.bin decompile?
« on: 2007-09-21 11:32:27 »
thats probably because the kernel file count starts at 0 and in the wiki http://wiki.qhimm.com/FF7/Kernel/Kernel.bin the file count starts at 1...so if you want to edit weapon data(witch is section 6 in qhimmwiki), the file needed to edit is kernel.bin5.

How exactly would I use gunzip.exe to decompress kernel.bin6 so that I could edit it?
you don't need to decompress that, just open kernel.bin6 with your hex editor and thats it.
when done editing, just type ff7dec e kernel.bin in command console(remember:if there is a kernel.bin file in the directory already, compression will fail)
happy editing  :-D

Hmm...first backup your original kernel.bin, then
1. Open command console and go to directory where your kernel.bin and ff7dec.exe exisist(of course you have to extract kernel from the cd first  :-))
2. Type "ff7dec d kernel.bin", without quotes of course(or kernel2.bin if you want to extract texts)
3. When finished editing, just repeat step 1 and type "ff7dec e kernel.bin"

that should cover it :-D

and sorry about my bad english...

editing is easy, but getting the damn image working after the editing is not...

There isn´t any mods for psx version, but you could make one, if you knew how to replace files in ISO. I have been trying to do that myself, but haven´t succeeded yet. I used PC-version editors like Scenester and also modified kernel.bin. The problem is that when you replace the files in ISO, the game no longer works and that´s because the replacing process probably also changes some vital information on image which cause the game freezing instantly when trying to play. I´ve only tried it with ePSXe, because i don´t want to burn it on cd if I'm not sure is the game even working. I was wondering, could one use PSX patcher engine to fix the problem?(like PPF)

well, i maybe got little too exited  :-) but now i can change weapons, materia, enemies, game dialogs etc. that should make playing ff7 even more fun...
what i´ve changed already:
1. AP received from battle is doubled, now materia growing is not taking ages...
2. Ultimate weapons have triple materia growth(because they supposed to be ULTIMATE weapons)
3. All bosses have double HP and MP (they´re all way too easy, especially in the beginning of the game
4. Made summon magic little powerful, comet2 now attacks 6 times and ignores enemy's defenses
5. healing items can now be casted on all allies(that works only in battle though)

if the game is too easy, then i will double every monsters HP and MP

After these changes the game got somehow a little slower, but i don't mind  :-D

« on: 2006-11-17 18:46:32 »
i have noticed a strange thing about this patch: when i ALT+TAB out of the game and then go back, the game plays fine, but when a battle occurs, the game freezes. Anybody noticed same thing?
offcourse this isn't really earthshaking thing, but i was just wondering why it happens and does it happen to anyone else...

i already have that editor. It cannot open compressed files(scene.bin). thats why i need a compression/decompression tool. i found multiple post about it, but all the links were dead.
