Troubleshooting / Re: New graphics card woes T_T

Have u tried just the 1.02 patch with movie fixes? Unfortunately there is no complete tech support with all these being done by modders in their spare time. If the basics work (1.02 + movie fixes) then one by one put the other patches on and try to build the install up.

Have u tried playing other games on the 7900GS? And if they play do you get any glitches or artifacts? Just do this if you havent to make sure its not graphics card related.

Archive / Clear guide to MIDI files
« on: 2007-05-07 10:06:53 »
Ok after alot of searching through the forums and not getting anywhere, can someone help me with this.

I have been looking for a way to enhance my MIDI files for FF7 but most of the solutions I find seem to be soundfonts for Sound Blasters. The closest I had to that was an Audigy but I can no longer fit that in my case as I don't have enough PCI slots spare to fit my card in so at the mo I have onboard HD audio (My 8800 blocks 1 PCI and my other is filled with my wireless card). What solutions do I have to improve my MIDI?

Now I know there is the MP3 option but I want my music to loop perfectly IE as the MIDI's do. I have Vista so the Yamaha Synthesizer will not install (I tried the XP compatible version and still no luck). Does anyone have a solution?

x64 does have compatability issues with certain programs, and I must stress that it tends to be older programs. x64 has a compatbility software that allows most x86 programs to run so mostly should be ok. Software is bit by bit being bunked up to x64 and vista compatability. Its just a bit of a slower process than people would like but no more so than when XP came out. It should be better than that though.

Christian my suggestion would be to split your XP HDD (depending on size) and have XP and Vista on the same disc. This keeps your OS clear of any of your other data such as games and downloads.

But the problem with that is that if the HD dies you lose both OS's which means u have to reinstall and lose any data that might have been on either.

Alternatively if you put an OS on each HDD if one crashes the other still exists but if I was to do that I would use partition magic to make a separate storage section. Of course if THAT HDD crashes you lose one windows setup plus all your other stuff.

Its really upto how you want to work the setup.

I use vista x64 and the nVidia drivers are fine and your future proofing coz x64 has backwards compatability for the more popular x86 progs. x64 lets you have LOTS of ram whereas x86 only lets you have 3.2gb (even if you have more installed than that)

LOL sorry about that coz I only use this place for FF7 (I thought it was like the ONLY game that ppl discussed) I didn't put it. Obviously its FF7 I'm talking about :P

*ahem* Bit Torrent *cough cough* Alternatively Vista is purchasable from good retailers OEM for about £60 for home premium and about £120 for ultimate.  That of course is UK but would probably be cheaper in the states if thats where your from.

Troubleshooting / Sound Problems
« on: 2007-05-04 10:42:32 »
Now I'll warn you I did a search for audio and sound and came up with not much so I think this post shouldn't be a duplicate of one previously.

Certain cut scenes tend to make the sound on my game disappear when playing, and in the scene afterwards (ie when you blow up the first reactor and the cut scene for when it explodes happens, the room where you blow the door through to escape has no sound and when you jump through afterwards does as well. also when you jump on the train the cut scene had sound but when you jump into the train i couldn't hear anything in that carraige either until i moved on). It usually corrects itself after moving to another frame. Does this mean the cut scenes are messing up with my sound due to loading off the disc or is it something else?

Yet strangely enough that piece of software is so crap that it runs progs faster and more stable than XP ever could, is x10 better at multitasking than XP and looks lovely. Vista is better than XP and XP was better than all those before it (trust me I've used them all!)

I was very surprised that Vista runs such an old game! Christian Vista comes with DX10 as standard.

well i run x64 vista and it works so x86 isnt really a solution. Plus does Anisotropic filtering REALLY make a difference on a game like FF7? and AAx16 surely isnt going to make very much diff at all when i got it at a decent res.

158.18 on vista x64 ultimate. Works a treat! High Res Patch and Reunion Patch. All works sweet as m8. Got an Inno3d 8800GTS 320mb.

16
Oh sorry yeah I'm talking about my rig with the 8800 on it. Got the high res patch and gonna put the reunion patch on now (still got it from ages ago)

Hey guys just to let you know, Ive installed the game and the graphics in battle, on the map and walking round northern crater are fine for me (apart from in the highwind theres no moving sky when you look out the front of the ship, meh). Granted I need to explore fully to see if i come accross any errors. All I did was install the 1.02 patch, the movie player off the install disc and the upside down movie patch (coz my movies didnt work at first).

Hmmmm as much as its a cool idea I can't really as my motherboard has 2 PCI's, 1 of which gets covered by my chunky ass 8800. The other has my wireless PCI card in it and all ive got after that are 2 PCI-E x 1 slots.

I suppose there is the alternative of playing on my mum's piece of crap downstairs. She runs Vista I think has integrated graphics on a P4 2ghz 478 skt. If i get a PCI card for that it might just workies.

Oh poo! Lol sorry not used any virtualisation software before you see. What about booting off a removable disc or separate HD into 98 or something similar then? I realy dont want to buy the psx version and running an emulator because obviously you can get much better tweaks and everything in the PC version. Plus I always played it on the PC.

Has anyone tried just running Virtual PC and seeing if there is some kind of way to make the older graphics card drivers work? Call me a n00b but I obviously have no idea how drivers and hardware work. Im sure most of us run a sweet enuff rig to easily run a shell OS and play the game in there is this idea is possible?

Troubleshooting / FFVII on XP x64 & Vista
« on: 2007-04-27 12:48:06 »
Hey guys, I am soon going to attempt to play FFVII again on PC but my rig has been upgraded quite alot since I last tried. I have the following:
E6300 @ 2.8ghz
8800GTS 320mb
4gb DDR2 800mhz
XP Pro x64

Does the game behave any differently under x64? Pretty soon I'm also going to be moving upto Vista (have to use x64 version of that too otherwise won't get my full 4gb RAM) and need to know what peoples experiences are of that. I am contemplating using Virtual PC to boot Win98 or something like that to try and improve compatability of the game but the hardware still begs the question of what will happen as i really don't think nVidia are going to release 8800 drivers for Win 98.

I know there are all the patches but obviously just wondering what other peoples experiences with these are in x64 XP and Vista.

P.S I have the latest 158.18 nVidia drivers
