old post but i have a related question.  pc version.

on disc 2 i didn't kill ultimate weapon.  i did enough damage and he flew up and ran away.  haven't seen him since.

on disc 3 now.  ruby flies around the map.  he sometimes stops over condor tower.  if i bump into him when he is flying it kicks me back with electricity.  if i bump into him when he's stopped at condor tower, it will enter battle.  but as soon as i do a bit of damage to him, he flies up and runs away.  its impossible to beat him when he takes off on me.  i thought i might have to kill emerald first, he doesn't run away like a bitch.  but then i see here that people have beaten ruby before emerald?  what's going on here...

i have a $1000 laptop and the native resolution is 1920x1200.   inspiron 9300.  i bought it about 3 years ago.  tho i dont think he'd ever make a version to support my native resolution.  my native looks 90x better than any other res in anything i do.

Troubleshooting / random freeze or crash
« on: 2008-07-19 03:32:21 »
Hi.  I've been playing through the game for a while now.  Everything seems to work, except for these random crashed or lock-ups.  These are all random.  The crash gives me a popup box to 'close' the application.  They usually occur after i've been playing for a bit.  It has the same symptoms of overheating.  I've played other games for this length of time, though, with no troubles.  Sometimes it does this when i'm in battle, when i'm walking around, even when i'm about to save(dangit!), or anything.

I do save often, but having to redo bits of content is really very annoying.  Anyone know?

nah i mean the problem was when i was using the keyboard UP+LEFT.  i never fixed the problem, i just stopped using the keyboard.

i am now using the psx-usb converter (my original psx controller now).  works great, all directions work

cheapass price.  works perfect.  don't need to install their driver.  don't need to configure any keys, anywhere.  plug and run ff7 and the controller works immediately

to shed a little light... hopefully anyone having this issue, (and has the dual slot converter), tried their playstation controller in the other slot.

i just bought a converter.  had this same issue for a few minutes until i tried the other slot.    the playstation controller will become usable and the keyboard will not be usable.  all the playstation controller buttons seemed to be programmed to correct buttons (same as psx console) as well.  good deal.

i got one of the cheapest ones on ebay.  comes with a worthless cd driver you won't need.  http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=200233022255&ssPageName=STRK:MEWN:IT&ih=010

What are your experiences with this?  I checked it out in store.  It seemed shitty quality.  The buttons seemed cheap and flimsy.  Some of them didn't even push in all the way, cheap.  They were definitely not as good of quality as my 10 year old PSX sony controller.  Anyone play with this logitch?

Hi.  I have not played FF8+.  I am debating whether to buy a PS2, or get a cheap PSx joystick/adapter and play FF7(pc) and FF8+(emulation) all on the PC of course.  PS2 runs about $70 shipped.

Also, how do the FF games (or all ps2 games in general) run on the PS3 vs the PS2?  are those all compatible and run any better/worse?

thanks for the input.

Troubleshooting / Re: buy pc ff7 or no?

ok well i found it at a local game shop.  this bugger wasn't exactly cheap.  anyway i installed it.  ran it, all the textures were black.  the intro movie played fine, and so did the sound.  but when cloud got off the train, everything except him and barret were black.

so, after installing 1.02, and making sure all AA and AF was disabled.  i ran it again.  this time the textures displayed fine.  there were no gridlines.  for d3d, it looked pretty damn non-3d and ugly-looking if i do say so myself.  anyway, it crashed as soon as i ran into the first battle confrontation.

the 8-bit textures don't say "fail", they say "---".  i assume that means fail.  according to everyone else, most of the nvidia cards should be supporting the 8-bit textures.  i guess my 6800 go does not.

i was messing around with riva tuner for the hell of it as well.  i went in to try and disable the 8-bit textures this way, but its not an option to uncheck.  the only option i can uncheck is "Enable 16/32-bit RGB/RGBA textures".  altering this has no effect on the game.

i tried running it again, and this time it did not crash when entering a battle confrontation,  it seems to be ok now.  the only bit of annoyance is that the music plays faster than the psx.  in fact the sound in general is not as good.  i guess i could get used to that though.

man i miss the 90s.  3dfx was the sh*t and -everything- worked back than...

well, i just see myself having all these issues at the chocobos, the submarine, getting trapped at the quit screen and control issues, random crashes, black texture problems, discoloration, and god knows what else people have been having trouble with.  i would not want to have software rendering as the only way.  that defeats the whole purpose of playing on the pc.

is there some place that has all of these patch files put together?  all zipped up real easy.  so i can only copy-over what i want, and don't have to research every single patch and have to install every single one individually..  one thing that would get annoying is constantly modifying text files between tedious game reloads--for different variables to tweak things to where they were meant to be, etc.

from my skimming over all these things.. it's just a real turn off and i imagine most people give up or don't even bother as well.

i have it for psx, but it would be nice to play it on pc.  after seeing all these problems people are having, i don't know if i want to deal with the headache.  is it seriously as bad as it seems?  maybe i should just install an emulator and use my psx discs instead.    sure some of the model upgrades would be nice though.

i have a dell inspiron 9300 laptop.  geforce 6800 go, windows xp
