omnivorism...

This sounds like the description of my TechDemo Upload's @ YouTube^^

Yeah I think so.  Did i imagine the intro sequence from the ff7 "remake" trailer being inserted to the pc version of ff7 somewhere?
I found the character portraits somewhere, but the one for red XIII was different from the one i saw online.

I have ff7 with the  new drivers and character models working and it looks great.   Thanks for everyone's work to make this possible. It's a big improvement over the original.

I am only disappointed that ff9 was never released on pc and isnt getting the same treatment. I know its considered semi-blasphemous, but I prefer it to 7.

ok nevermind about the reunion patch.

I guess the youtube video I am refering to is this one

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rbexquxkt6Y

That still looks better than mine. My videos look the same as they did before. kinda grainy, and you dont even get a 100% solid black on the the part with the stars in the start up vid.

Is the reunion patch what I want?

Sucess!

I redid the registry thing.

Updated my drivers

added character model mods.

No background issues, new character models look good.

But while im here I have some related questions. Though I know its a little off topic from this thread, maybe someone can point in the right direction.

I swear i saw somewhere on Youtube where the start up sequence to the game used the version from the FF7 "remake" trailer from a couple of years ago. Am I imagining this? Or is this an actual mod?

Also, I have looked for the "FiceMusic v1.51" mod, but i only see a couple of references to it on google, couple of youtube vids and then the german ff7 site (Too bad I don't speak German). I see no download.

I see the "FinalFanTim's Remastered OST" and ill be trying that soon though.
As well as the keyboard patch.

And last i see there is no "offical release" for the advent children portrait mod, is there still somewhere I can find it? Or is that kind of taboo here because its technically importing content from another game?

I don't really see playing it windowed as an option (i could just play it via ps1, emulated ps1 or regular pc version full screen)

I want the updated graphics (which by the way are impressive and make me envious)

I will try again by completely deleting all folder contents and starting with a 100% fresh reinstall and look for the driver updates online if they exist. But my card isnt old, i got it six months ago and installed the drivers that it came with, although I can understand if maybe the driver/card isn't quite up to par with what the custom driver is designed to do (though its very adequate for the original game) Its a little wimpy by the standards of new pc games, although I have Resident Evil 4 running on it.

I'll take your advice and try again soon.  It's a pain because its my other pc which isn't even internet ready.

Do you have a program to recommend that would work well for screenshots? I have cam studio, but ive only tinkered with it a little. I think its more of a video program, but can prob do both. I just got it in case i wanted to do videos of MUGEN.

6
if you mean buy a newer video card, thats a no go for now.   What I have is a dedicated gaming pc on a budget.  I need  dual core, more hd space, and a better video card.  Not to mention an LCD tv display, but i cant afford any of those at the moment.

It is a nivida 6200, its not impressive, but I think its still considered fairly modern. The pc is a refurbished dell with a fairly fresh xp install. so its semi new.

the video card is actually pretty new, it has the drivers from the cd tht came with it. my direct x is up to date also.
Getting screenshots might be a possibility, but still a little complicated. Which program do you recommend? ive normally done all my screenshots via emulators.

but the screens are exactly as i described. normal characters. normal battle, but the backgrounds have incorrect colors. its almost like a negative.

7
i understand that the custom driver isn't working anymore, but that isn't really an issue to me because i figured i would just reinstall again if i was going to give it another try.

It didn't work the first time as I said.

it displayed background colors very wrong.

So i assume the driver was technically running then (before i adjusted the config) but it wasnt working properly for me.

Any idea why?

I am having difficulties getting this thing to work properly.

I have installed (multiple times now)

ff7
patch 1.02
opengl

I can get the game to work just fine (at least from what ive seen with limited testing)
But I dont think im getting the hi res effects.

When i installed, the game normal animated movie played, and then at the trainstation the backgrounds are all kinds of messed up. looking kind of postured kind of like a negative with completely incorrect color placement (mostly looking dark or reversed) yet the characters look normal, the battles look normal, and from what little the played, the movies seem to be working fine.

After this i went into the config and changed it to nvidia tnt, and then that fixed the background problem, but the game looks just like it did on my ps1 in 97.

Is there something I am missing?

I have this on ps1, as well as no shortage of emulators, but I want to be able to play it with battle character models etc.

My pc is a dell optiplex
Pentium 4 2.8 ghz
2 gigs ram
Nvidia 6200 video card
with Windows Xp (32 bit i think)
Also, my display is a television not a monitor, but i still want what i can get, cause i plan to change it to a lcd tv later.

the pc is :

dell optiplex (i think)
pentium 4   2.8
2 gig ram
nvidia 6200 video card

I don't know why this has to be such a pain in the rear.

I will look there though.

Yeah I was looking at that one, figure it was the one to go with.

However my problems are not solved.

I tried again with a reinstall (though i overwrote in the same folder, so I may have some left over crap interfering)

reinstalled ff7
installed patch 1.02
installed chocobo patch
installed openeng

I did not touch the config other than closing it after it opened automatically from the new install.

Intro movies and load screen look the same.
New game loads to the train station. the background images are not displaying properly. the look kind of posturized with completely incorrect colors, and looking half reversed, although my characaters look normal. movie animations seem to be normal.

Then i went back to the config and changed it to nvidia tnt

Tried game again, and it displays perfectly normal.

Any idea what the issue is?

can you point me to the hi res model (not chibi) character patch that would work best for my needs?

I am looking but don't see it yet.

ok thank you. i will try again soon and see if it works.

can you confirm for me though,

the open eng patch DOES have large character models right?

And I have no use for the saint patch now right?

My internet pc uses a regular monitor.

well i dont know what you mean exactly by "used" the custom driver. (I asume you mean the openeng) I installed it.  I checked my config. it still said software render, but it changed to opengl something or other. and i clicked it on nvidia tnt. Is this correct?

As for the tv settings, i normally have it on a lower one. I run mugen on it and many other things. 640x something or other.

But i looked at the highest possible res, and it was around 700x1000. Its hooked up to an insigina 19' now (now my normal pc which I am using now)

I test this game on this pc also, but i couldnt get the high res patch to install because of some c32 or something error, but i managed to overcome that on the dedicated somehow with reinstalling.

Like I said I plan to update to an lcd monitor with dual core and a 9xxx video card eventually. This is part of a strictly gaming pc, loaded to the gills. I just want the game to be working in hi res with battle character models now, I dont really even plan to play it now.

Troubleshooting / hi res patch crashing.

Ok so i have been working on getting this game up and running on an off for a few week now, and have made some progress, but I am still not quite where I want to be.

I got the game to install.

I got the patch 1.02 to install

I got the openeng or what not installed.  It still worked, but i noticed no real change visually.

I tried to change the config settings to nvidia tnt, and installed the saint patch, and now it will crash before even getting to the start new game screen. ( i have a nvidia 6200 card)

I saw elsewhere that someone said that the saints hi res patch is obsolete because of the openeng patch now. Although I didnt see any difference.
I have this game on ps1 also, and could also run it via an emulator on the pc, but  I am specifically trying to get a visually improved version of this game with the battle character models etc as the normally playable ones.

Also, this is actually part of a dedicating gaming set up. So I am using a television and not a monitor. So therefore in the settings it limites my resolution to something around 1000x750. Is this really an issue? I plan to update to a hider preformance pc and a lcd tv later, but this is my current set up.

So can someone explain to me if there is a simple solution to my problem?

16
ok nevermind for now. i figured out part of the problem and will return with it later if i cant figure it out.

17
I have a similar problem. but cant seem to solve it.

I have the iso image, and I have tried to install the program several times from it.

If i use daemon tools, it only seems interested in reinstalling it.

I changed the registry as described above, but no change.

I just put both the iso, and the unpacked/installed game directly on the C: directory, but i still get the "please insert disc" error.  Even with daemon tools having the iso on c selected.

also i just click and drag all those files in in ff7 directory correct?

I did, but nothing in the config looked different.

But I am also using two different pcs this one is a gateway with an intigrated vid card. the one with the nvidia card is my dedicated gaming pc (with no internet and not hooked up this second)

I have been unable to get the game to work on either pc though

appreciated. I saw that before actually but was confused. I got the download from it though.

Its just telling me to install cd (even though i did a full installl)

Problem is I dont actually have the cd.

I have the iso image. if i use daemon tools it only wants to reinstall though.

Any idea for this fix?

Troubleshooting / about graphics drivers

ok So I know people are doing advanced things here and i have a really basic question, but I havent been able to find the answer elsewhere.

I have ff7.
I have patch 1.02

But in an older version of of the 1.02 patch it asks for a gru something other driver that seems to be completely offline.

I am aware that isnt the one most people on this site seem to be using though.

The other version of the 1.02 asks to try two specific drivers from the nvidia webpage, but these don't seem to be online at their site anymore.

Exactly what drivers are people using and where do i find them? I've looked.

I have a nvidia 6200 video card. I can get the game to install but not play.
