Scripting and Reverse Engineering / Re: Scripting question

are you suggesting replacing every rendered environment with a 3d one?....you must not like sleep

I'm gonna go ahead and guess no?  The environment in the world map is 3D, not like the rendered environments.  For example, Cloud's entrance at the beginning of the game jumping from the top of the train, can only be seen from that angle because that's the only view of the environment rendered.

Troubleshooting / Re: Need HELP! In Desperate need..
« on: 2009-11-27 19:05:00 »
I don't know if it's an Ultima issue, I have a legit copy and the same thing happened to me a while back, couldn't switch out any materia, weapons, access the items ('item' was grayed out), or change limit levels (limit was also grayed out).  I asked Gjoerulv about it thinking it might have been an issue with the hardcore mod (Tetsujin I don't know if you're using it), my first thought was something was up with the kernel bin, but older saves worked just fine.  I asked around and nobody seemed to have a fix, hopefully you have some better luck, but in my case, I didn't find an answer and just had to use an older save and lose a couple of hours in the game.  Hopefully you get an answer, but if not I hope that's not your only save.

Hey, I had the same issue not long ago, I never figured out what it was, only that it had to do with that particular save only.

Did some googling and the most common answer I come across (besides getting into another random encounter) is to enter and exit a few towns

I don't know if that's set in stone, I had it working that way set up with the mp3 folder inside the ficedula folder on my last laptop and it worked fine.  This time around I actually have to keep all of my music folders in just C:\ or when I try to save the file paths in the .ini file they won't save in FF7 Music or play in-game, weird eh?  Did you check a few posts up at what sl1982 mentioned, make sure to uncomment the ff7 music plugin line in the opengl.cfg file, delete the # in front of it, that usually slips my mind after a fresh install.

Might be too soon to say anything, but after reverting back to the older 0.7.1b driver, I haven't gotten any crashes yet either, only been messing with it for a bit though.

No problem, though I'm not sure if any of what I messaged you helped, other than crossing some probable problems off of the list.  I actually never got past that issue with the motorball fight myself and had to use one of the files from the save compilation posted on this forum a while back.  Let us know if trying the older one of Aali's drivers works for you, I'm gonna try that route myself.

I've never taken the time to download anything special for it, so I just use 'print screen' for in game shots and enlarge them just a bit for anyone that needs to see them, they usually come out ok.

« on: 2009-11-16 01:28:45 »
Hey thanks for the heads up Aali, I went with a fresh install, and haven't been getting the error about drawing outside of the z-bound again as of yet.  I also turned off the shaders in the opengl.cfg, though I'm not sure if that would have had anything to do with it, if you have any idea I'd like to know, I'd of course rather have them on.  But, it seems like every time I get help with a problem, another one pops up, I can't see any text when there's a conversation on a completely black screen, for example during the Kalm flashbacks.  And now for some reason if I enter a Ft.Condor battle, when it's over, I get a freeze, saying 'ERROR: COULD NOT CHANGE TO DIRECTORY C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc.\Final Fantasy VII\Data\minigame/data\' heh, honestly haven't been able to play this game for more than 15 or so minutes at a time without something like this lately.

@Maelstrom, post your APP.LOG from inside the ficedula folder, that looks like the one from the FF7 folder, assuming you're using FF7 music to run the game.

I swear the insanity doesn't end, I just had a crash in the middle of a Limit Break with Red XIII, and when I shut down the game and went to check out the APP.LOG, it was taking forever to open, 'cause it was 184MB (yeah you read that right), haha, this is getting ridiculous.

Troubleshooting / Midgar Highway Motorball crash
« on: 2009-11-14 22:08:29 »
Well, if it isn't one thing it's another, heh.  I'm getting a crash I haven't seen before, just as the highway motorbike chase scene ends, and the 'motorball' rush past Cloud and everyone else in the truck, my music stops and the game just hangs, I usually have to just start windows task manager to get back to windows.  I'm not too good with figuring out these app logs but I can say I've never seen the glitch at the bottom of this one in any other crash I've had, hoping someone can shed some light on it, thanks.  And if for some reason I've goofed up inserting the code for it there's a mediafire link for the app.log.

Yep, that's an old fix I took care of a while ago after reading other posts, can't blame you for checking though.

Gah, this is killing me, just did a fresh install, midi works fine but as soon as I uncomment the plugin in the opengl cfg, and pick a profile in ff7 music, I get nothing, and I'm too spoiled to keep playing with midi now, heh.

Well, I can't change things quite the way I used to, but it's finally working.  I pulled the folders of music out of the ficedula folder and shortened the paths by just using having C:mp3, instead of C:\Program Files (x86)\Square Soft, Inc\Final Fantasy VII\ficedula\mp3.  But I still can't understand why now I have to make changes in the .ini file and can't have multiple file paths, even there.  But, whatever, it works.  Thanks to everyone for helping out.

14
Yeah I've been doing that, when I had just one file path, it seemed to actually work and save it, but when I tried to copy over the old file paths from the last music.ini, it went back to showing just 'mp3' there, and the only profile available is 'ps', even if I delete 'ps' from the profile list line in the .ini and save it, really weird.  So what I'm going to try is having all of the songs in one folder, if it'll only let me work with one file path, and see if it'll play the music.

Still no dice, though I am able to save the settings now, so thanks for the tip on configuring through the .ini file, just sucks that's the only way I can do it now, I had multiple file paths and profiles I was able to edit through FF7 music, I even have to change songs through the .ini.  But even though I can save the settings, I'm still not getting any music in game.

15
Haha, yeah I'll send it right over;)  Yeah I've tried running it as admin, and the first thing I did when I powered it up was disable user account control, a lesson from vista and obesebear

Troubleshooting / Can't seem to configure FF7 music again
« on: 2009-11-13 04:49:02 »
So, I had FF7 music working great on my last laptop, just bought one today, and it's just not cooperating.  I just copied over my whole ficedula folder from the install I had on the last laptop, changed a few things since I'm using Windows 7 on this one and I had Vista on the last one.  My issue is when I try to enter the 'paths to search for music files' they won't stay there if I decide to save and exit, when I come back the only thing there is 'mp3'.  And in the drop menu for profiles, there is only 'ps', if I try to add a new one and click on a song I want to change, when the browse window opens up to select a song, I'll double-click on the folder holding the soundtrack and then FF7 music will completely close.  And weird things like if I want to change the prebuffer and buffer ahead settings under the wave out plugin, I'll hit ok and save and exit, but when I come back it's like I never changed anything.  It's kind of frustrating, on the last laptop I had great music but the card and memory were so crappy it couldn't handle all the mods, and now I can handle the game visually but can't hear a thing, heh.  Anyway, I hope I've provided enough info for some help, any at all would be great, thanks guys, take care.

17
Hey everybody, I'm hoping I'm asking the right group for help with this, I can load up a game fine using the driver, I used to get the warning about not having texture support or an indirect path until I turned just about every option off and set the resolution to 640x480. But now as soon as I'm on the map I notice that Cloud's feet are no longer textured, and in battles neither is Cid's body, just his spear, also I no longer get a battle swirl.  Also If I enter the Highwind and hit the menu button, I get a game crash.  Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone else was experiencing anything similar, I tried messing with the settings for the openGL in windows, there was a guy a while back (Mindrip) that used the same graphics card I have (Mobile Intel 945, don't laugh), and he posted some settings he used in this thread to get it working, but it doesn't seem to work for me. There's a link for my APP log, the crash dmp file from the ff7 folder, and a crash ff7 file that was created in my saves folder I just noticed, the ff7_opengl.cfg file is in there too.  If anyone could help out it would be appreciated, thanks.

Yep, it's his hardcore mode, and I switched to the new scene and kernel files probably about a week ago after running into the unbeatable phoenix issue.  I was sending him a message a bit ago about it, and he suggested loading up another save to see if I still couldn't get it to work, there doesn't seem to be a problem with the older saves.

19
Yep, the original.  And thanks for replying so quickly.  I'm not sure what info to give about concerning the game that might help out.

Troubleshooting / Can't access materia, items or equipment
« on: 2009-11-02 13:32:50 »
I'm about 30 or so hours into the game, and after the 'boss' battle encountered after picking up the HP<>MP materia in hardcore mode, I can't remove or add any materia from or to weapons (I get the buzzer sound if I try), and all materia not equipped to weapons or armor is now missing.  Also in the menu, 'item' and 'limit' are now grayed out for some reason, and I also can't switch out weapons or armor anymore, again I get the buzzer sound.  For the life of me I can't figure out if I've made some weird mistake, or if I'm just missing something obvious.  If anyone has run into this before or heard of a similar problem, any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.
