Notoriously reliable and NSFW sources suggest that Squeenix may be setting a play limit of eight hours a week for FF14, presumably to stop themselves being sued by Koreans who play online games for so long that they let their children starve to death. This comes hot on the heels of claims by Squeenix that rumours of players being limited to one hour per day are the doings of evil and treacherous gaijin  (despite the claims originating from Japanese sources).

Uh, it's not Squeenix's fault that people are stupid. That's like people sueing Blizzard over divorces because of WoW. What about the unmarried, childless recluses that want to play over the weekend? THINK OF THEM!!

sounds like a good idea to me. Most people are completely out of touch WITHOUT being absorbed into a MMORPG.

I would understand a limit of 8 hours a day. Standard work day and 16 hours to sleep and be with family. But 8 hours a week. FF14 will have to have quick leveling and a bunch of mini activities in order to make up for the time.

I like to play MMOs in bursts..like say..devote a whole weekend randomly to playing an MMO. This is unfair and if it actually gets 100% confirmed I won't buy 14, I was considering getting it until this point.

If they're gonna limit the playtime, they damn well better charge less per month.

But really, I doubt they'll actually do it.

Looks like someone has sued an MMO developer. Not for causing a divorce, but for making one unable to function properly: http://www.sankakucomplex.com/2010/08/25/mmorpg-lawsuit-they-addicted-me-i-lost-20000-hours/ (naturally, NSFW ads)

I know. It's astonishing.

I always thought of it as a family-friendly place, which is why I permitted my 10-year-old children to browse it freely. I am now shocked and appalled by what I have seen and shall be writing a strongly worded letter to that "Artefact" fellow.
