Finding world map dialog boxes in FF7
« on: 2010-09-24 00:18:32 »
Hey all! For the past year or so, I've been using Loveless to change the dialog in FF7 and pretty much rewrote the story to where Cloud is a gender-confused ex-model searching for his masculinity. ...Yeah I know this isn't a useful mod, nor would it really improve the game. But since I started it, I want to see it through to the end.

So my question is: Where can I find the dialog boxes out in the world map? Also, what program could I use to modify it? I can't seem to find them in the flevel on Loveless and I'm sure it's probably in a kernel file or something I can't open until I download the right program.

The first half of your post belongs here.  The second half not so much.  Just delete it and make a new thread in Mods

Alright, I'll leave the first half here and take the rest where it belongs. Thanks!

...By the way, I tried to delete this thread and it wouldn't let me. Is that something only moderators could do?

He didn't say delete the thread, he said delete the second part of the first post and make it a new thread!

To answer your question, world map dialogue is found inside a file called "mes" inside world_us.lgp.  You will have to manually hex edit.  As for how to resize the dialogue boxes of the world map, I don't know, I can't find them.

I did that already, thank you. I was just asking in case I mess up again and have nothing in the post related to the area of the forum. I'm not quite used to this new forum desgin or the changed categories.

And thanks for the answer! Since most of the boxes are big, I hopefully won't need to resize them. Having the name of the file will cut down my search by probably weeks  :D
