Square mistake? Or am I just seeing things..

Okay, so I am playing through Final Fantasy VIII yet again. I love this game =]

BUT ANYWHO. I am at the point on the first disc where I am in Deling City and the parade is about to begin. And once Squall and Irvine are in place, Quistis runs back to apologize, now on my way back to Caraway's mansion, something caught my eye. On the road right before you are on Caraway's property standing next to one of the guards blocking the road.. I see Watts?! Am I just insane? or did square make a mistake and set him to be a random street walker and not just a character that shows up at certain points in the game as he should be? I hope I am not just going crazy, then again I also hope square didn't make a programming mistake! Seriously, come on, I can't be the first that noticed? Us gamers who are madly in love with the FF games, as most of us who play any of them are, play these titles over and over, and are also prone to notice detail..

Actually i guess i wont.. When i try to paste the screen shot into paint it shows up all black? I don't know. Nor do I have the patience to try and figure out what the cause is. But i know all of you are die hard Final Fantasy fans, and either know exactly what I am talking about, or if you care enough can go check yourselves.. Sorry to sound like an asshole there. It wasn't meant in a harsh way.

I know what you're talking about (about 18 mins into this video). The answer is: don't think too hard about it. I see two possibilities:

1) It's just a random NPC that shares a model with watts. It happens in games like this, and it gives creditability to Watts' street clothes. It's really not a 3D model itself, but it's one of those pre-rendered things. I bet if you look closely enough around other crowded parade areas you'd find him in more places.

2) It IS Watts and you were originally meant to interact with him (maybe he'd tell you something about Rinoa that you wouldn't know otherwise) but someone decided to take that out and replace it with an animated image.

You're not crazy and I'm almost certain it was planned that way.

 Where was Watts suppose to be at the time of this happening?

The last time you see Watts before this is at Timber before boarding the train towards Galbadia Garden.  THe next time you see him isn't until the White SeeD ship i think.  So he could be anywhere while you're in Dollet, including Dollet lol.  So it could actually be Watts.  What are some of the other occurences of seeing Unique characters walking around randomly in this and previous FF games?  I am trying to think of some...

It technically could be yes, but Zone and Watts are supposed to be in hiding from the army since they were part of an anti-government faction that tried to kidnap the president. If you may recall right before you leave timber, Zone shows up to give everyone train tickets, and you had no clue it was him. That would be why I thought it was a mistake or I was crazy. He should be in camo mode haha. But seriously though, I am pretty sure when you talk to him on the White Seed Ship he says that almost immediately after their grand escape they came into contact with the White Seed. That part I could be wrong about though.

Hmm, i think thats right although i don't recall him specifiying the timeframe for coming into contact with te White SeeD ship, but its been a year or two since I played VIII.  Did he say something about sneaking on a Galbadian ship that got into a battle with the White SeeD ship?  This could be a manufactured memory lol.  Either way, guess you just have to choose your own interpretation.  At the very least, it doesn't seem that you are crazy, at least in this one instance.  A word of warning, if next time you see pink elephants or Watt's goes on to explain the meaning of existence and how God is really just the twinkle in your eye...you just might be insane.

I am not 100% sure I just began playing through VIII again a few days ago, and have yet to reach getting to the White Seed ship, I will let you know when i do tomorrow! If i find time to play the game that is. My memory is a little fuzzy about the goings-on aboard the ship.
