For those who haven't noticed, Windows has shitty font rendering. It's one of the few areas where OSX is definitely superior, and I suspect that it contributes to the perception of OSX being the better operating system. Fonts are everywhere, adn if one OS is better at rendering them, it will give the impression of being superior overall. What's worst is that Windows makes an especially good job of f*cking up one of the greatest fonts in existence:

As do I. I'm especially OCD about startup tasks. I see all these people taking screenshots of their task managers on /g/ with 100 processes running and I'm like "WTF?".

However, they really aren't very big resource hogs, especially compared to certain programs that feel the need to use over 300MB of RAM:

Yeah, but I run OS X now, so it's all good.  All I run on startup is Dropbox, and InsomniaX (an app that allows macbooks and "Macbooks" alike, to close the lid and not go to sleep.  I mean, seriously apple, it's a pretty standard feature for an OS, and it's not hard to implement, get with the program).  Other than that, I'm 100% satisfied with OS X, and feel no urge to switch operating systems, like I do when I use Windows or Linux.  This may sound like the total opposite of what is usually said, but I feel closed in when I run Windows or Linux, but not so much OS X.  Maybe it's because I've used OS X since the developer previews, so I know it inside and out, or maybe I'm just insane, and think different (that one would be quite appropriate, no?)

What version of windows do you use Kudistos? Windows 7 does a fairly decent job of font smoothing.

Windows 7.

But I still think this is a huge improvement. Actually, this looks better than OSX's font rendering in a VM (I assume there aren't any differences between OSX's rendering in a VM and its rendering when running natively).

Of course, maybe I could have had some decent results if I'd messed around more with the cleartype settings, but I'm too lazy. And there are still fonts that just render badly.

nice find! The only thing i enjoyed with the brief time i used a mac was the way fonts were displayed. Great program, and the memory usage is minimal, i too am a startup/service miser.

Windows 7 is a masterpiece, but I'd switch to Kubuntu in a heartbeat if it had my favorite game(s).

Agree about the font rendering though.

Well it's definitely different.   Not sure if I like it more yet.
