Umm, what? The PS3 is perfectly backwards compatible with PS1 games. PSN is simply an alternative way of acquiring the games, handy for games like FF7 where original discs could cost a lot more.

I was under the impression that the "slim" PS3's can't play PS2 or PS1 disks.
(unlike the fat ps3, that can read ps2 and ps1 disks)

And PSN may be an alternate way of doing it (though it seems to me that they are braking their own copy-right rules - unless you have to pay for it anyway) but I'd bet you that there are still games that I like that AREN'T in their list of ones you can download. (feel free to correct me though it would get away from the topic of this thread so we would have to talk in PM's instead)

Nah. All PS3s can play PS1 games. Some fat PS3s (but certainly not all of them) can play PS2 games.

As for copyright, the ones for download on PSN cost money, only work on the machine that purchases them, and are licensed by the owners of all the necessary copyrights, so it's all completely legal.

HUH, I didn't know that.
I guess when I heard that the slim ones wouldn't be able to play the old playstation games, the guy forgot to specify PS1 or PS2. Thanks for the info.

I guess buying it off PSN is good for you, go for it.
But if your HDD brakes, or something else happens, you'll loose the copy and they probably won't let you download it again without paying the fee a secong time. (alot of PC game companies are like that when you have to reinstall the OS and get a new IP address - or only have a certain number of free installs)
I'd rather have the original disk. It prevents stuff like that from happening.
Plus, only the games that get listed by the companies that own them, can be downloaded.
For EX: I bet you can't find an abscure title like "Kya: Dark Lineage" (one of my favorates) ^.^
And how about "Yu-gi-oh: Forbidden Memories" (can you find that one on PSN? )

You bring up a good point about availability, however I can't imagine why anybody would want Yu-Gi-Oh! Forbidden Memories. Let's stick with the GBA games, they're about a million times superior.

Could a mod please split this thread? I don't wanna get any further off-topic.

Yay, I made a point!
And hey, I like my yugioh game, true it's not that great, but it's still good.
Duelist of the roses is much better though ^.^
But I've never played any gba versions, got any recommendations?

Sence were in a new thread?

Duelist of the Roses? Blech! There is nothing that game does that isn't done better by Fire Emblem. Also, the reason I don't like Forbidden Memories is because it mangles the rules so bad.

Pretty much all the Yu-Gi-Oh! games for the GBA are good, as well as Nightmare Troubadour for the DS (my personal favorite). They play just about identically to the real card game. The computer cheats in the GBA games, but in Eternal Duelist Soul makes up for it by also being stupid.

(yeah, forbidden memories did mangle the rules quite a bit)
But the reason I like DOTR is because it shows the cards in 3d.
No GBA game can do that.

And I do Love that DARK MAGICIAN GIRL in 3d *drools*
(that's the thing that fire emblem doesn't have)
(though I have never played it)

That looks awesome.
I don't suppose you have the link to that little online flash game still, would ya?

BTW, do you know where I can buy some japanese yugioh cards.
(I'm really getting sick of all this NON-Japanese censored shit) >.<

For me it looks like they use a software to play PS1 games on a PS3,but the first models contained the PS2 CPU/GPU and later a MIPS64 emulator + GPU.

Your PS3 is powerful enough to emulate things like N64, a DOS PC,a Wii
a Saturn and a dreamcast but as we know Sony included a hypervisor(something BSD like that denies to access hardware from your programs).

Exactly!
THX for explaining that ^.^

I figured it was powerful enough to do it.
Pitty about that stupid BSD thing >.< Grr

Well as much as I'm not a fan of smilies, I guess these makeshift ones are no worse than what we already have.. just as long as they aren't overused.

On a moderator note, Don't double post.  Warning issued

Well, the smilies I use are always very simple.
And I don't use them in every post.
So you have nothing to fear.

Hmm, on the other hand I may use them more then I thought.
I went back over this thread and found only 2 posts (of mine) that didn't have a smiley.

NOTE: Oops, my bad.
I fixed it ^^;
